I think we have two great semifinal matchups.

Hartington CC vs Oakland Craig
DC Aquinas vs Battle Creek

What are your thoughts and predictions?

I've seen three of the four teams play (haven't seen hartington). Just saw Battle Creek this last week and I've got a dynamite scouting report on them...they're bigger than everyone else. Not just sort of bigger, they're a lot bigger across the board. They are just manlier than the other teams. They aren't a fancy football team. They're just bigger, stronger, and generally faster. You can't teach big.

Now that being said, if anyone is going to knock them off, I would have the most faith in Aquinas considering Mimick's track record. He's had pretty much the same exact offense since he started. Aquinas is never the biggest team. They consistently play with some of the smallest offensive linemen you will find. Their offense works because they're great at misdirection and their linemen getting angles/leverage on defensive linemen.

From experience, the best way to beat Aquinas' offense is to get great penetration to disrupt the backfield, which I would predict BC to do.

I agree about Mimick's teams. I remember playing them our senior year, and I swear they maybe had 3 guys over 200 pounds on the roster, that's it.

Aquinas will give Battle Creek some fits, but I think Battle Creek has been on a mission since week 1, and I think they win this one.

I watched Oakland-Craig last week and man, the Mitchell kid at QB for O-C was impressive. Also the run game by Arlt as well, they have such a great offense. This game between O-C and HCC will be a battle, I'd love to see Oakland-Craig get back to the finals for the first time in nearly two decades.

BC wins because of speed and line play, they are on a mission. other game could go either way, whoever has the most turnovers will lose that game. I too have seen 3 of these teams play and they are all very impressive . it will be a good final whoever makes it to Lincoln, I think this will be the best game out of all the games. the weather conditions may hamper the HCC-OC game because both squads like to chuck the rock around a little.

I think they'll both be good games. It surprised me that Battle Creek was held scoreless until 5 minutes to go in the half last week. It leads me to believe that they are susceptible to being upset more so than anyone thought a month ago. Oakland Craig is definitely a different team since getting their quarterback back. But also keep in mind that Hartington has now had 2 game films of him to help prepare for this game. The element of surprise will be further reduced now that he's making his third start back from the injury. The unsung player on this team is the Thiele kid on defense. He makes nearly every play or takes up 2 blockers in the process, if he doesn't get in on the tackle. I'm guessing that Cedar Catholic might be able to slow him down a little bit more. We will see on Friday!
