Yup. Not sure why you would want to play corner in a defense where the scheme sets you up to have to lead the team in tackles, and the line does nothing to help.
That's not the scheme D Williams wants or is recruiting for. Diaco was hired after him, Diaco is running the best fit for the corners presently on the roster. We have no corners at the time on the roster other than Jones who himself is a better zone corner then Man. that would not give up multiple big plays if we played strictly Tight man all the time. The health of the safety position dose nothing to ease the vulnerability to big plays either. So saying we have no desire to play aggressive is totally false and giving are recruits a false impression of how they will play here. Dose nothing to help are recruiting. Frost and DWilliams have the exact some idea of aggressive and Tight man coverage by the way So please stop!!!

These DB's have no cover skills. We knew that early in the season. What we are doing today is nothing like what we want to do in the future. In glad someone else gets it.

This is why you don't fire your AD in September.

You can't be serous, can you? Eichorst had to go sometime during the season, regardless, because we had to have a new AD on board to start working on the next coaching hire.

Did you really think we were going to fire Eichorst after the Iowa game, and have enough time to hire an AD that would be ready to hire a new coach within a couple weeks? C'mon man, you gotta have a realistic timeline here.

Actually, to have any chance to keep the recruits that are currently committed, it makes much more sense to actually have fired our AD earlier, because it means that we will more than likely have a new coaching staff in place much earlier than we would if we were to wait to fire Eichorst until after the Iowa game.

As I said to Archie earlier (so far no response), didn't we fire Pederson mid season in order to hire Osborne? Was that a mistake too? Please.

LOL. Saying that recruiting will suffer just as much if we keep Riley and pointing to this is nothing more than a self fulfilling prophecy. These kids would be solidly committed...except everyone and their dog knows Riley will be fired. You can’t blame the results on the field for the loss of recruits when the whole state has been packing their bags for the last month...that is why they are leaving. Nothing else

You know, I think you are correct. I posted earlier that this class would fall apart anyway due to the losses on the field. I think that was wrong. I think a lot of these guys like Bookie really were sold on the vision for the future Riley articulated to them. But now, with all of the uncertainty, they are exploring other options.
Good post

The part that makes me laugh is some blaming our record for the recruits looking. They have already made it dead clear that our record did NOT matter and they’d still come. But only if Riley was the coach. It’s as simple as that. They want to play for Riley and all this talk of Frost and firing Riley has our recruits checking other places. Sorry but it has nothing to do with our record at all.

So we should just keep Riley around even if we finished 0-12, because some eighteen year old kids won't come to NU if Riley isn't here? Should NU even play a down next year so that we can keep the potential next recruiting class together?

Or how about this....don't get the living s*it kicked out of you by good competition, lose at home to a directional school, get 600 yards and 42 points dropped on you by an average Oregon team, lose nine of your last fourteen, go 0-5 against maybe the only two teams that matter in your division, throw the ball 50 times with a below average backup qb while playing the worst run defense in the BIG, pull defeat from the jaws of victory against a below average Illiois team because of sh*itty coaching decisions, and have two out of three losing seasons in your first three years.

Or would you like to tell us that all of the above is still on Bo?

Give me a freaking break.

So it was wrong to fire Pederson mid season and to replace him with Osborne?

This is why you don't fire SE in September. Happy?

Nothing good has come from this. We could have hired Moos later in the AY year. It wouldn't have been hard. Instead, we cut the legs our from this staff in September. And we need talent. For this staff or for the next.

What is the difference between firing SE and firing Pederson? You still have not answered the question. You just restated the obvious. We fired SE. So what? The goal in both situations was the same. Fire the AD in order to get ready to fire your failed football coach. Why is it wrong now but ok in 2007?

It amazes me how different football recruiting is compared to basketball. 99% of the time in basketball when a kid gives a verbal that is it and schools leave him alone.

With that said, I think Bookie does love NU and LOVES the attention he got but can you blame him for looking?

Think if you had a nice job offer and you said "Sure, I will take it, starting next year" and during that time tons of other bosses called you for your services and while the job was the same...there were other incentives. You would look, we would all look. That is not about giving your "word" it is about being smart. If we all "stuck with our word" we would all still be working the first job we ever had.

Honestly, I don't give a ****. And I'm not going to the mattresses to point out the obvious: the two situations are different in nuanced/important ways. You should be able to recognize that.

Whatever he chooses, I wish him the best and, I think, so should the rest of us. Solid, high character kid who brought a lot of excitement and attention to Nebraska. It was clear from the start that he was committed to Riley and the staff first and foremost -- he was very upfront about that all along. It appears Riley et. al won't be able to live-up to their end of the bargain. You can hardly fault him for pursuing better opportunities when the one advantage we had is seemingly gone.

If/when he chooses to decommit...the flood gates will open up with other players in the class bolting.

Let that be a lesson in the football offices...one must focus more on winning on the gridiron first then parlay those victories to the world of recruiting. Winking

Guessing our Dline guys will fit a little better in the 4-3 next season. They are being asked to perform tasks that dont really fit their skill set. Cant fault them but expecting the Davii to individually hold up against 600 lbs of lineman isnt really utilizing what they probably do best which would be attack.

hahaha. Truer words were never spoken.
But it is the Fall lambing season. We do the lamb thing twice a year. In fact, I was out in the pasture this afternoon helping a ewe deliver triplets. But I was still obsessed with posting on here from my iPad. My iPad even has stupid ewe *** blood stains on it now. Gross. YUCK.

I need help. RollingLaugh

ah, yes you do sir, yes you do. I don't advise drinking but maybe for the next few months until a final decision is made you could find some solace there. :)

Our football program reminds me of the old Soviet Union that constantly implemented new five year plans —and they were just about as successful as we have been in the past fifteen years. I don’t doubt Riley needs to go but anyone thinking Frost will be winning championships in the next five years has been hitting the Stolichnaya too hard.
Riley was always a five year plan at best. They should have spent the money to get a winner long ago.

So, when do you fire the AD if you know you are going to fire the coach in December and you sure as hell aren't gonna let Eichorst make another hire?

Seriously? What's your timeline?

Everybody aside from yourself knew damn well Riley isn't surviving this season after NIU. And it's not just because we lost. We look incompetent. Unless you want to get all excited about some hollow passing stats after down 42-0 to OSU, we have looked largely incompetent all year.

SO, what is your timeline to get this all fixed ? January?

No, recruiting matters more.
February is the real season.
Never mind that the results weren't really top 20....Riley GETS it! Eeeeek!

When it's year 3 and you're an underdog against a Purdue team that hasn't been good in a decade, a few recruits staying or going are the least of the program's worry. This hire was sold as a coach taking the team to the next level, not a giant rebuilding job that includes a losing record in 2 of the first 3 seasons.

Can someone point to a top 20 recruiting class by a staff after year 3 that is coming off 2 losing or nonwinning seasons in 3 years. Maybe it has occurred but I can’t believe it is very common.

Extremely hard for me to believe that these top recruits were going to stick after it has become so obvious that this program under its current leadership is miles away from any semblance of relevance.

There is a reason that Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa state, Kansas etc don’t pull in top 20’recrutong classes

First I think you have to pick a program that recruits in the top 20 first then go from there. Iowa St isn't going to pull a top 20 class even if they win the Big 12.

No, this hire was a giant rebuilding job and that rebuilding job would / supposed to lead us to taking the team to the next level.

Recruits don't give 2 ***** about what the Vegas line is. If we're underdogs in the next 5 games, win 4 of those games, recruits arent going to think, "I'd commit but Nebraska were underdogs to Purdue, NW, Minn and Iowa...."

If you followed any of Bookie's recruitment, it was pretty obvious he was gone before the season even started.

Joshua Moore however is bailing due to possible coaching changes.

A giant rebuilding job? The previous coaching staff who everyone blasted won 9 games a season. That's hardly a giant rebuilding job. This was sold as the guy to take Nebraska to the next level and quickly. It was not ever sold as a rebuilding job until Riley and his staff tanked in the first season.

You are right....they don't read the boards or anything. They just look at our boat races at Wisconsin, Ohio State, Oregon and losses to Northern Illionis. They could care less about how we might lose more
