[Coach34]

hating Sherrill really makes you a moron...the fact the the current football staff is trying to emulate Sherrill says it all. Our new HC has 2 NC's as an assistant and he wants to emulate Jackie as much as Meyer...

Thats says it all

[HD6]

For Christ's sake, Sly Croom had two national titles as an assistant.

[MSUCostanza]

He invited him to a practice? And let him commit a minor infraction in the process? You are an idiot. If he starts emulating Sherrill, we're in deep ****, because he'll be hiring ****** assistants and getting caught cheating.

It's no surprise that you prefer a coach that was 2-4 in bowl games, had an under .500 record overall, and got us on probation twice.

[SLUdog]

and Polk from before 2002.

[Coach34]

and ******** clogging it up...

But Mullen actually called plays in a championship game...he made a difference in the game...Crooms recruited and tried to be able to stay with the team in white hotels on road trips in the 60's and 70's...When Crooms called plays, it was a laughable result... at no time was he successfull enough to warrant being an SEC head coach

[dawgoneyall]

shifting his rank of importance in "92".

By 2002 MSU was not near the top of importance. By then MSU was simply a convenient platform.

Crazy SOB.

[Original48]

I hated the last 3 years as much as anybody but I actually expected to win most of the time he was there. And we did. I was in Atlanta, Peach Bowls, the Cotton Bowl and that crazy *** Snow Bowl. I have great memories of the Sherill era. Why the hatred?

[Coach34]

Mullen had Kenzaki jones come back and teach the team the DawgPoundRock...did Crooms do that?

And while Jackie had trouble at the end, he was the best coach we had since the 1940's...

And Oklahoma has committed 50+ secondary infractions in the last year, us committing 1 with Jackie is really nothing at all to worry about...only you would worry about that, considering our basketball coach is the 2nd biggest buyer of players in SEC basketball

[MSUCostanza]

That's what you came up with? Really? You are ridiculous.

Nobody disputes that he was the best coach we had in a very long time. And when he was motivated and hungry, we were very good. But when he lost that motivation, he should've retired instead of leaving us in worse shape than he found us, paving the way for LT to hire the walrus. Had he retired in 2001, we could've brought a good replacement in. His stubbornness led us into the depths of hell, and he refused to change, then he got desperate and started getting sloppy with the cheating and the type guys we were bringing in.

I'm not even commenting on your ridiculous Stansbury swipe.

[MSUCostanza]

he lost the fire in 2001. Instead of retiring, he got desperate and wound up hurting us more than he ever helped us.

[Coach34]

Our current staff embraces the Jackie years and hopes to emulate them...I hope they succeed...the staff constantly mentions the Sherrill years...

You need to die and just go away and let the current professionals take charge and make progress

****, help Stansbury draw up a new inbounds play- that would be progress

[Stormrider81]

At least we get to see an original argument. I'm totally shocked that Peaches is taking swipes at Stans and loving him some Jackie, and that Costanza is hating on Jackie while defending Stans. What's next, KB21 shows up and defends Polk while blasting Cohen, or perhaps JR can show up and talk about how Walter Sharpe was treated unfairly?

[Coach34]

Jackie is a Saint and you better bow down to his awesomeness

[patdog]

in his last 3 years. As much as we all hate Crxxm for his total ineptitude, he'd have never set foot in Starkville Mississippi if it hadn't been for the total collapse of our football program in Sherrill's last 3 years. At least Crxxm's failures are somewhat understandable. He simply wasn't capable of doing any better. But Sherrill damn sure was.

[Stansfield]

Who ever won more games or took us further then Jackie? The last two years of his career hear where abysmal, but those years do not erase what he did for State prior to that.

[Stansfield]

LT should have pulled the trigger and gotten rid of Jackie instead of letting him hang on for the last three desperate years. What man is going to retire when he has a good paying job knowing his boss isn't going to can him no matter how much he sucks. LT tarried with Jackie then went and made the PC hire and patted himself on the back and kicked back for 5 years until the general showed up and heads began to roll. Give me a damn break. I cannot see how people can blame Jackie for the Croom debacle. LT hired the poor slob knowing damn well the man had no business coaching an SEC team.

[Original48]

And I don't hate Rockey..he was the wrong hire like Croom. At least Rockey loves Mississippi State. Croom was just a condescending cluster. But we could not get anyone to come within 500 miles of our program after the Rockey years. This led to LT's search ending up getting a lightening rod of a former successful coach under constant NCAA scrutiny to stop selling cars and come to Starkville. THAT'S how bad our program had gotten starting the Sherrill era. And he built a winner. I can't do anything but appreciate what he did. The fact that he didn't leave sooner, for me, will not erase all the incredible years we had under him.

[Dog in the Know]

I dont get the hatred for Jackie either. Our best football coach in the last umpteen years. He brought some fire into the program. Jackie farting made news for MSU. Good or bad we stayed in the papers. Sly of course did it the right way which was make MSU get in their place...at the bottom with an acceptable year out of every five. A lower tier bowl and dont ruffle any feathers. Did the program fall apart under Jackie? Of course. No question but why? Did he know Ole Miss had PI's on him? Maybe. Did this cause a shift in recruiting tactics? Maybe. The questions and scenerios can go on forever.

If you hate Jackie I think you must be a new MSU fan because our program does not have a good history. the good Jackie years were pretty damn fun and I looked forward to Saturdays in the fall. I looked forward to seeing our highlights on ESPN. I looked forward to seeing if we were ranked on Monday.

[HD6]

Croom was in high school in the 60's, you douchebag. I'm pretty sure in 1978 and 1979, getting a black guy a hotel room wasn't a huge issue.

I'm not the one who made the stupid comparison. You are.

[patdog]

And he left it in pretty damn good shape for Jackie Sherrill to take over. Felker's last team would have beaten Sherrill's last team by 3 touchdowns, easily. You say that we couldn't get anyone within 500 miles of our program after the Rockey years, well that's the whole reason he was hired in the first place. We literally couldn't get anyone even remotely ready to be a head coach to even look at us. Rockey was the fallback hire because we couldn't get anyone else. Just like Richard Williams was the fallback hire when we couldn't get anyone else to even consider coaching our basektball team.

[Coach34]

for us being able to hire one of the top coordinators in the nation to Starkville. He is the reason a good coach would take this job now

[patdog]

I love him and I hate him both at the same time. He did a hell of a lot of good for MSU football. More than anybody since WWII. But you can't just turn a blind eye to the tremendous damage he did to us too. I do know I'd a hell of a lot more rather had a competitive team for the past 8 years than have a new coach whose won 2 national titles as an offensive coordinator at Florida.

[dawgstudent]

I can think of 1.2 million reasons of why he came. Jackie's previous success had just a little to do with but I think in every coaching situation where you hire a coordinator, the pay raise is the main thing plus the opportunity to be a head coach.

I like Jackie and I choose to forget 2001-2003 but your fellatio of him is gross.

[Coach34]

if you remember I was one of the main people claiming for years we could get a better coach because of what we could now pay- but its not the only reason. To not acknowledge that Sherrill uplifted our program to being a much better job though is ridiculous.

And how I view Jackie is nowhere close to the jerking off to Stansbury pictures like Cowpower and Hanmu

[dawgstudent]

we didn't get a better coach because of what we could pay because we only offered him 1.2 million. Let's say Baylor, Iowa State or another lower tier BCS school had a good year, we would have never hired a lower tier BCS head coach for that salary.

I am not saying Sherrill didn't show that you could win here but to say that the success he had is the reason Mullen is our Head coach is ridiculous.

[Bdog9090]

us being in the SEC was also a pretty big factor in it too. He gets to move from an OC to the head coach in the perennial powerhouse that is the SEC. Plus it's a lower tier school. If he can win at state, he can probably win just about anywhere.

[Coach34]

State couldnt get anybody to take this job in 1985 and we had to hire Rockey. How come we are able to hire one of the nation's top coordinators now?

Is it because of our top-tier SEC status?
Is it because of our top-notch facilities?
Did Mullen think that 1.2 million was the best any school would offer him?

Jackie made this job more attractive because he showed people you could win here and the fans would support a winner. I'm not saying he is the only reason this is a better job, but he is a big part of that

[dawgstudent]

with the opportunity to easily make at least 2 million/year if he does well.

[HD6]

the very next time you make that accusation, it will be the last post you ever make on this board, I can promise you.

[HD6]

we just enjoy supporting a coach that actually won an SEC title.

You get on to Stansbury for never winning in the tourney, but you love a coach who's biggest bowl win was over a 6-5 Clemson team in the Peach.

[Coach34]

I edited a misspelled word and that was it

Which accusation do you speak of?

[Coach34]

we have been to what 13 bowls? How many of those were coached by Jackie?

[HD6]

in how many years of basketball, how many NCAA tourneys? How many coached by Stansbury?

There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I loathe you.

[dawgstudent]

and 90% are while he is at MSU.

[8dog]

that is something that has become exponentially more luring than it was in the 80s....and not b/c of JWS. ESPN isn't paying a billion dollars b/c they think JWS made this league better.

In reality, Croom pretty much undid anything JWS had done to make us a viable option for a coach.
