I could have bought 100 bitcoins for next to nothing when it was first released. I passed. I kick myself over it.

Same here and I believe I discussed it on this board. Quite certain of that. But I don't regret it in the least and I'm still not a fan. But I won't criticize those that make informed investment decisions that include alternative currencies.

BTW, not gonna lie. I gave myself a bonus today and maxed out my Simple IRA contribution for the year. Betting on this as the bottom or close to it.

I like that strategy myself. Being a little bit older than you and having a ton in retirement plans already, not putting anymore in IRA's. But strategies are different for everyone.

Agreed and well said. Not for everyone, but I think it's worth it for me. Probably going to fund 2019 and 2020 Roth IRAs as well.

BTW it's amazing how quickly people have figured out how to get me their tax docs electronically this week. I've only been trying to get that to happen for 5 years.

Again, great strategy. Love Roth's. Doesn't make much sense for me nowadays (in my view) to put anymore in though. I'm into tax free income investments and as you know (so really speaking to others if they don't know) Roth's are tax free returns but one must keep their principal locked up for 5 years or until 59 1/2. I need more liquidity but and I prefer any new investments to generate income which I just reinvest. It also meets my objective of getting more diversified and balancing risk of the entire portfolio.

Re-reading that last post, my words are slightly inaccurate. Oh well. Not going to edit but withdrawals if under 59 1/2 and not held for 5 years can be subject to taxes is what it should have said.

I'll have to dig into it. I've had problems getting details.
"I just got off the phone with former Bush NEC Director Larry Lindsey. He says everyone is missing the “big bazooka” in the Senate bill- massive payroll relief for small businesses in section 1105. He says it could impact up to 80 MILLION American jobs."

Feeling pretty good about my timing. Obviously A LOT of volatility left, but the timing really worked out for me, based on what I think. Simple IRA was sent in Thursday, didn't buy mutual fund shares until yesterday at the close. Maxed out 2019 and 2020 Roth with some targeted stocks on Friday, so far all have had 3 decent to great days. Knock on wood.

I'm sure I'll jinx myself, but I'm all in on retirement for 2020. Might look at non retirement buys this or next week. Probably go targeted again. At least I have some free time. Anybody else got any thoughts.

You are going to be 59 in what, 25 years? You did fine is my opinion but who cares about my thoughts.

Pelosi is talking about a US electronic currency. It’s only a matter of time before it becomes the standard.

I'm definitely in the minority from all the CNBC talking heads who have way more info than me but I don't think we're near the bottom. Every director I know in a big company (excluding govt and defense) is working on big layoff plans. My guess is that we see high volatility, mostly sideways and somewhat downward movement for a couple months with the market hitting new lows.

I was very glad to see the government act in a big way with 2T stimulus, but that's only going to be round 1 unless we accept significant damage to the economy. 2T out of 26T GDP is a huge number and will help, but in no way does it replace what will be lost. I think people were excited with the number because it was so large but I don't think anyone knows how to judge what that number should really be.

It's a fools game to try to catch the absolute bottom so I'm going to divide my portfolio in chunks of no more than 10% and then put it back in over time. If I go too early then it won't hurt much because I'll be dollar cost averaging my return to the market.

For some background I've never been much of a market timer but I'm retiring soon so don't want to get pummeled like I did in the financial crisis. We went from 50% stocks to 20% stocks at the end of October expecting a corrections due to high P/E and high market cap/GDP. We went from 20% to 0 in late Feb after understanding what was inevitable here in terms of the virus and economic impact.

There is one positive on the number of cases that may not be apparent from the tv "news." The daily % increase has clearly dropped over the last week. The number of new cases each day is large now because the base number is large, but the percentage is continuing to drop. That's the start of seeing progress.

lol. You always will be my #1 fan. Nice to get a win reminded on here, tho going back through the thread I did puss out on any non retirement investments. What a cuck.
well, i sure hope your timing was good. i bought heavily the week around March 23rd, both retirement and non-retirement accounts. So far, so good, especially Shopify and Fastly (FSLY has tripled since then, although pulling back earlier today). For humanitarian and economic reasons, i hope there is not a Second Shutdown or Second Wave.

Similar. Shopify and others have done great. I've had 6 stocks at all time highs in the last week or so. I'm above where I was before the crash. Great market recovery so far but I expect another downturn.

During that time Shopify went from 332 to 796, not bad. Many tech stocks (and others) have had very good runs.
i bought my first lot of Shopify at 75. what do they say: even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.

it's nice to look at, but it's just on paper until it's sold. just hope the market stays positive. long-term outlook. what concerns me greatly is the increased risk of inflation with all of the stimulus. And somewhere, sometime, somehow, taxes will go up to try to balance things out.
