Whatever the case. I hope Butlers contract doesn’t extend past 2025.
We can extend if he’s got a top 30 D in November.

I cannot believe how fvcking retarded we are as a program. I am hoping this guy can actually coach. I am skeptical

I will be rooting for Butler to do well. Very well. Excel.

And every time I feel like I need to criticize to defensive execution or plan, I am going to direct all that criticism at Ruhle. He hired him. He gets all the heat. If we don’t have good enough players, also his fault for hiring somebody with no player connections.

According to Thamel

I think the key to this is Phil Snow as executive HC. No clue how it will work but that eases some of my concerns about Butler as a DC.

Not what I would've did but I'm not the coach either lol.

This program should be able to hire a proven DC as a defensive coordinator.

I don't give a **** if it's someone who is getting it done in the MAC
or Sunbelt and comes for a payday.

Hiring guys we hope will grow into the role, that we should give the benefit of the doubt to because they have virtually no experience performing the role and we'll just "have to see" is not something that this program should be doing.

That's how we end up with McGuire coaching wideouts. If that guy wants to coach wideouts at a P5 program, he should go kill it at Iona or Buffalo and get noticed at a higher profile place.

There's no blame on Butler here, of course he'll take the role. This is on Rhule.

Also Rhule’s second season leading a program out of the dumpster. Improved from 1 win in ‘17 to 7 wins in ‘18. Thanks for reminding me that we’re right on track.
Very cool, I guess the 50 point beatdowns from a historically irrelevant school are just part of the Rhule Year 2 special.

How many games do you think we’re winning next year?

I have no clue, and neither do you. Way too early to even venture a guess.

Don’t project your own stupidity on to me.

If you’re too much of a coward to throw a prediction out there just say so.
It’s ironic how you’re talking abut projecting stupidity while asking someone to predict next season before we even know who is on the team. You ever heard of the Dunning-Krueger Effect? You’re living it.

You said we’re “heading in the right direction” then refused to elucidate what that means. Probably because you knew it’d age as poorly as this brainlet take of yours
I'm not believing any of the Indiana hype yet. UCLA legitimately might not win another game this season, that win means nothing. You could argue similarly about our CU win, but I think they at least might squeak out 6 wins and a bowl game. UCLA is flat out terrible. I could easily see Indiana needing to beat Purdue at the end of the season to get to 6 wins.
Don’t come at me with your stupid ****, we’re not on the same level

All I said in my original post is basically you want to pluck a random 2018 result out of your *** like it’s relevant right now. Leaving out the context that 2018 was an improvement for Baylor and 2019 was a huge improvement for Baylor. I don’t know if Nebraska is headed in the right direction, but you don’t get to decide what is relevant from the past and what isn’t. If Rhule and his DC getting their *** kicked in 2018 is a predictor of anything then the other facts are relevant too you ******* moron.

This does not bode well. Might work but most likely will not.

At this point, my confidence in Rhule has been reduced to strict SHOW ME.

Hate to say it or even think it BUT Nebraska just doesn't have IT anymore. Give me a break, Rhule himself claimed he had head coaches clamoring for this job opening. No f'ing way. Nobody want it is the sad *** truth.

I'm rooting hard for Butler but at first glance, i don't like this hire at all.

Nope, but I fully expect you to follow me around now that everyone knows you’re a gutless *****
Between you and I, I have no worries at all about my reputation. I legitimately can’t think of a poster whose opinion I value less. Reminder, your the dipshit posting scores from 2018 and thinking you made a point.

Quite something for people to get their nose put out of joint by something that was in the works all season.

Because it should not have been. Why hire your next DC from the pool of unemployed people in August? And that brings zero portal players with him.

Physically cringed when you mentioned your “reputation” on a message board

Thanks for the laugh, retard. I look forward to seeing the rest of your takes that age like milk, which I’m sure you’ll offer since you can’t help but respond to me

You really are that dumb. You said “everyone knows you’re a gutless *****.” I simply laughed in your face and said I’m 100% comfortable with my reputation compared to yours. It’s a fact you’re known as an emotional dipshit. I’ll respond to whatever I want tough guy.

So we just made him the DC to run a defensive scheme that he isn't familiar with? Rhule wants to keep the 3-3-5. Hopefully he is a better DC than DB coach cause they sucked this year. In the opponents pass yards per attempt statistic Neb was 8th in 2023 and 91st in 2024.
Nebraska - the only team in the country who rewards coaches - who clearly underperformed - with extended contracts, raises, and promotions. i. e. .... Frost, Chinander, Riley, now Butler.

So no players to bring with him, awesome. I haven't heard this, I hope it's not true.
The good news is that Simpson and Mozee are on the transfer trail. Our new D line coach might be a positive as well. At least we know now. I think Rhule’s hand was forced with the portal being open and a couple of young options coaching in the playoffs. Had to get this done. If not for the portal maybe this waits until early January line it used to😕

Matt Rhule got blown out by WV.
Probably why he was dragging his feet on hiring him.

It’s a huge ego blow to be the leader of an organization and know there is someone more capable working under you

Really disappointed in this one. He has very little DC experience, and his one year doing it at Penn State was terrible, albeit with a decimated team but still.

We should be a program that hires a DC with an established history of success. Not where someone gets a second chance or gets their start coordinating.

Hopefully he proves me wrong, but I have to admit my expectations are insanely low.

The Brothers Pelini had the best defenses since Charlie McBride left the building when they were defensive coordinators. Their grand total of coordinating experience was Carl’s one year with Mankato State.

Another example of hiring your buddies. I only hope it isn't as poor a decision as it looks. Obviously there was no one who wanted the job. Do we really have such little potential as a program ? Is Nebraska such a bottom-feeder program now that only those coaches needing a little rehabilitation will come here?

Dannon yogurt is just as poor of a hire as he appeared to be when he was hired as Athletic Director ( and as poor as the coaching staff is turning out to be). I am sure other B1G teams are just laughing their asses off at this program.
