From the Five Burning Questions article...

"Nebraska would get a big boost in its bounce-back efforts this week if quarterback Adrian Martinez were able to return to action after sitting out against Minnesota."

I'm not bashing Adrian, but I just don't see how anyone jumps to this conclusion. There are maybe 2 throws a game where Martinez can pull off something "Mahomes-ish" but outside of that, I don't see how anyone can still deny that Vedral is doing everything at LEAST as decisively and accurately as Martinez.

Can anyone point out to me somewhere in the Minnesota game where it is clear that Martinez could have done something Vedral couldn't do that would have made any difference in the outcome of that game? I'm sincerely curious.

I hope Martinez can return, but I don't expect a "big boost" if he does.

I don’t see it based on what he’s done this year. Throw in our porous OL and neither QB has a fighting chance.

This team is early in the developmental stage...they have much growing up to do, in a short amount of time.
One player won't make that much difference.

Martinez is a threat to stretch the field, even though we haven't done that a ton due to the line issues.

Vedral is not. Minnesota knew it, adjusted their defense accordingly, and completely owned our offense because of it.

It's much easier to defend any team when you don't have to respect anything past 20 yards.

Bro we NEVER stretch the field with Martinez this year. Everything seems to be behind the line of scrimmage or within 5 yards. No deep passes

we don’t have anyone who CAN stretch the field. Noa was supposed to help step in and fill the void left by Stanley Morgan, but he’s been unreliable if not non-existent. All our other potential “deep threat” options aren’t getting it done or are true freshman who aren’t ready yet. Defenses know this so they squeeze down. Our best options are JD, Wandale, Martinez, Mills and Washington. All of these guys are going to touch the ball within 10 yards of the LOS more often than not. The lions share of their yards will come after they make someone miss. None of them are going to go up the seam and grab a jump ball against a DB. These guys operate in space, the problem is there is no space for them to operate in because there’s no deep threat to stretch the field. And even if we did have that option, the ability of our OL to maintain a pocket long enough to get our receivers downfield and a pass off is questionable at best.

Actually the snaps were pretty darned good during the Minnesota game. I watched quite a bit of football over the weekend and we aren't the only ones having issues with that.

Yeah, you're correct sir. I don't know if that's a fluke or not but hopefully at least that's one major problem that's long gone.

so true, and sadly highlighted by the fact stoll and allen are the team's only big bodies and are also incapable

Only if he's physically and mentally healthy. Don't need more of the same. Playing waaaaay too tentative. Get healthy and fire in the belly and let's roll

that's true. i saw some snaps that were even worse than what we've seen. One was probably 5 yards wide and 5 yards too far.

I think Stoll is capable. He’s made some nice catches and yards after catch. It’s just been very infrequent, and Allen seems to have dropped some catchable balls.

That said I question Stoll’s usage. Seems like he’s a guy we need to get the ball to but haven’t been able to do so. Is it a situation where our OL is so bad we need to keep the TE in for extra blocking? Is it a scheme issue where we’re just not calling his number often enough? Is it his issue where his number is being called but he’s running poor routes and not getting open? Or is it an issue where again the OL is bad and our QB doesn’t have enough time to go through progressions to get to Stoll because he’s not option one?

Just seems to me that Stoll has been under utilized this season and I’m not sure why, or maybe I’m just completely off base.

I mean, I guess we lost to NW when he played the entire 4th quarter, got us into field position and maneuvered the ball where it needed to be for the field goal kick......

I thought Vedral did okay, considering the team was getting curb-stomped in pretty much every phase of the game. But then, my expectations of Vedral were not ridiculously inflated. I guess I wasn't really buying the whole "just like when Turner Gill came off the bench" nonsense, or the relentless gasbagging about how much the offense would improve with him at QB.

I hear that! I was pretty much hoping for 50% completion, no turnovers and him running/scrambling a lot...pretty much what we all saw.

Vedral didn’t show me much in the last game, sorry. Do I think he’s a solid 2? Yes but nothing more than that.

I’m convinced Martinez would have scored at least 17-21 points on pure command and throwing ability.

Vedral is a serviceable backup. I think AM is a better all around QB though.

Yeah not really Vedral's fault, but the offense couldn't get out of its own way for 3 full quarters.

Offense has been a crap sandwich most of this season. With Vedral it was like a crap sandwich with some Dorothy Lynch salad dressing on the side.

I'm saying it was still a crap sandwich, but BY GAWD is was a crap sandwich with some local flavor added!

There is no real debate about whether Vedral should be getting snaps ahead of a healthy Martinez. There isn’t.

However - if McCaffrey starts Saturday and leads NU to a much-needed, feel-good victory - the conversation will get legitimately interesting.
