Give the man a chance with an experienced team plus with what he will be adding, I see great things for next year.

What great things do you see? Based off what we’ve seen in years past, what makes you believe we will have an experienced team? Specifically I mean.

Absolutely. His 13th season as HC, you're GD right. FINALLY, we'll have an experienced team we've all been waiting for. If only we'd had the patience!!!

This is Kentucky.

Perhaps what I dislike most about a coach turning in a subpar performance is the rationalizing that goes with it.

Here is the bottom line

When a coach accepts the job at Kentucky, he knows what he is walking into. Look at what it did to Sutton and Gillispie. The job is demanding, there are no mulligans.

Cal has an innovated approach to coaching and wants to implement it here...great. When it works he is royalty.

Covid-19? Nobody cares. They are still ranking teams, there are teams that are still winning and one of them will win the national championship. Cal is the coach of Kentucky. His job, without excuse, is to have this team winning.

Rampant cheating? Nobody cares. He made the decision to go all in with his approach, he knew players were being paid and he still chose to go the path of high risk/low reward as opposing to changing. Cal is the coach of Kentucky. His job, without excuse, is to have this team winning.

Most final fours in this decade? Most SEC tourney whatever? He doesn't get paid for what happened 8 years ago, 5 years ago or 3 years ago. Nobody cares. Cal is the coach of Kentucky. His job, without excuse, is to have this team winning.

Welcome to Kentucky. It bought your beachfront home in New Jersey. Its given you a chance to change your reputation as a coach. Its given you a platform to define your legacy. Nobody cares. Cal is the coach of Kentucky. His job, without excuse, is to have this team winning.

You can never, as the coach of Kentucky, have a historically bad season and reach new lows.

He does deserve another year. But another year of him insulting fans, declaring to the press he is willing to lose games for a kid's ego along with incompetent managing of this program and I will celebrate him leaving. As far as I am concerned, he has no more sub standard years until he puts in another run like 2009 - 2015. The threshold for sub standard to me, and I think most reasonable fans, is sweet 16 and double digit losses. If you can't rise above that mark in 2 years then your coaching skillsets have diminished and you have no business being the coach of Kentucky. Before anyone start to tell me about other HOF coaches who had consecutive bad years, please go back and re-read the italicized recurring phrase in this post.

Unconditional support for a coach at Kentucky is fallacy. "You people are crazy" - John Calipari

The same exact thing could be said for other teams we beat in 2010 and 2015. Unfortunately close doesn’t count as it’s all relative. Yes it was so close but both resulted in losses in which Kentucky did not advance to the FF. Results matter.

What if “almost” happens 4 more times over the next 8 years and the overall results are similar to the last 5 years? That’s what most people’s main issue is (amongst other things). They don’t believe the next 10 years will be any different than the last 5 and honestly probably worse because more and more schools are recruiting one and done , more players are going to random schools and more players are going to the G league AND more players are quitting half season to train for the draft lmfao.

Cal’s approach will not lead to success anymore because of the above.
You may very well be right. I just think he deserves some time to transition to a team you and I will enjoy more. If he doesn't...then by all means, cut ties. He deserves at least another year to show improvement imo.

When Cal has the right roster mix he has proven that he can have UK in the thick of it in the end. I still believe if this year was a normal season and they had all the practices, games that past teams have had then you would be seeing different results. Mike Decourcy was saying this very thing on Tom Leach show and it’s his job to study basketball teams across the board and believes that’s why young teams are struggling.

People are not going to get over the the stuff that happened at the beginning of the season, so it wouldn’t have mattered what the record was, they were never going to be happy

Disagree- fans being upset is largely due to the horrendous season and results we’ve seen. People would still be irked but if Cal was sitting at 13-3 or 12-4 or better it wouldn’t be like this.

No offense man but that just sounds like excuses. Other teams have been “affected” just as we have been and they seem to be doing fine. A few missed practices isn’t the cause of our demise. You’ve seen the team play- they aren’t good. Our PG is awful. You know this too man.

It’s the model. Relying on a bunch of 2nd tier 5 star freshman with no real veteran experience. Rinse and repeat.

You say “when cal has the right mix” Well yeah, when Cal has a generational player like AD and some SOLID returning experience then he does well. Or when he has insanely good freshman like KAT or Wall AND solid returning experience he does well (even tho that ended in an EE loss) he does well... but again, based off what you’ve seen the last several years, what makes you believe Cal is going to get that perfect mix again when:

Cal no longer gets the elite of the elite (unfortunately this is a fact)

AND

Our entire team or damn near half the team/ all the even marginally good players leave every single year or transfer or quit halfway to train for the draft.

How will that work?

Cal hates all of you and shows it daily. Why would any of you support him? I understand supporting the program but not Cal. He has totally screwed Allen over this year and yet plays Boston and says it’s due to cater to his mental health! What a complete joke! He’s clearly just trying to manipulate you all when he says something as stupid as that because now if you attack him for his decision making you’re a bad person because you then don’t care about these kids “mental health” because a sport is just so damn important in the whole grand scheme of things, ya know? Cal is a woke loser and should have taken the job at UCLA so he could live with all his woke buddies in Commifornia! I hate Cal, yes I’m an IU fan but I don’t hate him because he’s the coach at UK. I hate him for what he’s done to Allen whom I love watching play and being a manipulative liberal FU&@!

This is a terrible season. But anyone who thinks Cal should get fired for one horrible season (okay, there was the Goodwin NIT season, but I'm talking about this year) has the impulse control of a crack addict. Hey that's a good line and I'm gonna start a thread with it.

Well god bless the next coach then because their stay here will be a short one lol. Goes right back to entitlement and expectations that make the fan base look like idiots. I for one would rather keep Cal and let him turn things around.

So football teams that have struggled this year catch a break due to the pandemic but basketball teams don’t, that doesn’t make any sense in my opinion.

Despite what some think of the players on this roster, I believe Cal needs to convince them to stay put (no transfers no G League)
Because he doesn’t enjoy losing, I think that’s obvious.
These players need to mature and add next years incoming players with an added recruit or two should cure what’s ailing this team

Why hasn’t he ever been able to convince players to stay in favor of quitting half season to train for the draft, go to g league, go 2nd round/undrafted, transfer or go play in some obscure country?

Which recruits are going to fix the PG situation? What makes you believe, based on previous years, that more than a couple of players who aren’t very good will return?

Cal stated the other night on his call in show that he was blunt with this team like no other team he has had here, telling them that if (big if) they were to make it to the league, they were role players at best. Maybe the players will actually take his advice to heart.

You just said it, "Because we are UK." Some of you think Cal is UK. Your wrong, UK is UK, and it made Cal. Why do you think he kept asking his wife if UK had called, which he said he did. It's just like Alabama in football. There are other good programs, but there is only one UK, and we are at the TOP, followed by Duke, NC and Kansas. UCLA was once a great program, but no more. I don't want Cal to make us like UCLA.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!
I think Cal helped in keeping us from being UCLA. You mentioned Alabama football. How many coaches did Alabama have after Bear, before hiring Saban, 7 or 8 maybe.
I think Cal has been a great steward of this program. I will absolutely support our next coach when they are actually hired. You seem to think just hiring the next coach corrects everything because it is UK. Programs, good and great programs, often fall apart and it may take a lot of coaching turnover before the program is revived, if ever. There are plenty of examples out there.
I am not afraid of losing Cal but I am concerned with the trial and error period of hiring coaches to replace him .

Get it back on track and win a title. I know he can do it, he’s to arrogant not to.
Cal won’t let his story end like this even though some on this board wants him to.

As a UK fan since I saw my first game against North Carolina in Memorial Coliseum in December 1959, I’m thrilled Coach Cal is our coach. Obviously, this has been a disappointing year but considering Cal’s total body of work and how much he has elevated the UK program above what it had been for most of the previous 10 years, he is certainly entitled to a pass on this year’s performance. I also believe that this year’s freshmen and transfer class is the most overrated incoming class in the history of Kentucky basketball.

SK, I have never said, hiring another coach will correct everything because it is UK, nor will I. However, staying with a coach who isn't getting the job done is not the answer. Take the time to read a new post I put on here, and you will see that I did not push for Cal to be replaced after this year. I do believe if he doesn't improve next year, then I want to see him gone. So do most fans. The last 5 years have not been what a lot of us expect for UK. We're better then that. BCG was let go with a better record then Cal has this year. There are a lot more reasons then just this year's record. Cal should have never been given a lifetime contract. Again, please read the post I just put on today, and then give me your comment. Thanks!

Some fans just do not like Calipari and have not liked him from day one. They want a coach that’s loyal to the university but there isn’t one, they are about the money. Someone will bring up Mark Few but I think Few stays at Gonzaga because there is no pressure and he can have multiple double digit loss seasons and no one is calling for him to be fired, not because he is loyal to Gonzaga. It’s job security and getting rich while beating teams in that mediocre conference.

I would be very happen to see Cal hang it up or move on. There is a huge number of fans that agree with me and I swear to you I’m NOT a dumbass so I wish you wouldn’t call me one.
