Bugger McFarland - trolling Rutgers

There was discussion this morning about SEC schools playing FCS schools the week before Rivalry week (likely because the committee places so much emphasis on losses later in the year so SEC schools play cupcakes as one of the last games to avoid those loses).

Bugger McFarland says "Alabama playing Mercer is the same as Ohio State playing Rutgers"...

Wow...serious?

Him along with Pollack are the biggest SEC homers outside of Finebaum. They all are twisting things any way they can to see Alabama in. The thing is though...neither 4th team really has a great body of work. OSU has better wins but much more horrible losses.

Who would you put in as conference champions? USC or Ohio State?

While a dick comment, the combined score of 114-0 over the past two seasons is a little FCS embarrassing wouldn't you agree?

If we want to stop getting made fun of we have to stop giving people reasons to make fun of us.
FCS teams have only 60 something scholarships allowed it's not even close to the same thing...OSU doesn't pay us $1M to lay down and lose for them

I have no idea what argument you are even trying to make or what relevance it has in relation to the original comment by McFarland.

He basically compared playing us to playing an FCS team. Of course he was thinking by strict definition like you just illustrated. It was meant as a out down. That's what out downs are. They aren't typically meant to be 100% factual.

Actually that is tough. Probably OSU for winning the better conference if it was down to those two but USC looks very good right now at the right time. USC doesn't have a shot though.

Comparing Rutgers to Mercer is dickish and not even remotely true.

I understand what he was trying to do...justify Alabama getting in even though they play FCS schools at the end of the year...I'm saying there are obviously factual factors that negate that kind of thinking even if it was more TIC

Pollard likes you guys. The last two years y'all lost to OSU because you where playing man coverage. The same D they play in practice against better D. What did you think was going to happen?

Mercer scored on Alabama this year, we didn't score on tOSU the last two. We set records for offensive ineptitude the last two years--seriously, the stats are mind-blowing--so I have no problem being slammed occasionally. We've earned it. The flip side is that if we turn things around it will garner that much more favorable attention, and that's what we're working toward--getting better. We are like a rescue dog that nobody wants yet but that a lot of people are pulling for, and when it happens it will have been a long time coming, many years of abuse we'll have overcome.

Why doesn't Booger ask Maryland, Purdue, and Illinois what they think.

He just brought up Alabama - Mercer again. Only this time he dropped the OSU - Rutgers thing replacing RU with UNLV.

Uh. we lost to OSU because their roster is full of four and five star recruits while Rutgers roster is full of two and three star recruits.
Every year OSU gets the top prospect from several different states. Rutgers can't even get the top prospect from New Jersey.
That tends to lead to an OSU team full of guys that are bigger, stronger, faster, and more athletic.
That gives the OSU coaching staff a little edge when competing with RU.

Give credit to the producer barking in Booger's ear piece that Rutgers is a B1G team.

No No No my friend, that don't mean anything that they get "5 star" guys. You was still playing man coverage all day and you got killed the last two years. Watch the film junior. I know a lot of you who don't actually watch football.....

Yeah, we just do it.
Actually if you think about it, we do it for a lot less than an FCS school. Last year we only received $12.6 mil. from the B1G for 27 sponsored athletic programs. So if you work that out, we receive far less than an FCS school would playing OSU. This year really isn't much better at $14.4 mil.. Now that truly sucks.

Rutgers shouldn't be in the Big Ten? Then the Big Ten can give back all the money it gets from cable subscriptions in the New York area. So far Rutgers hasn't gotten close to a full pay out even while the rest of the conference mines the New York area and people have the nerve to say that.

We’re not the worst in the country, but they treat us like we are. Sucks.

Because for so many years we were, actually ranked last one year during the Shea era. So when we start losing again it all resurfaces. We are also on everyones minds because of the recent Schiano news, reminding everyone what a great job he did bringing us to respectability.

There's not a lot of FBS teams who get smoked as much as we do. We're a year removed from 78-0 blowouts. We got smoked by Indiana and annihilated by Michigan State on national TV. We haven't earned respect yet. We also have one of the worst offenses humanly possible.

Sucks to say, but his overall point is true for the moment. The past few years indicate that RU has just about as likely a chance of beating OSU as Mercer has of beating Alabama.

I will go one further, since we have been in the B1G, Ohio State has outscored us 219-24 in just 4 games. Let's be totally honest, if they had played a top 10 FCS program the last 4 years, and not just North Dakota State, that score differential would be a lot closer.

To date, we have done nothing to shut these people up, so don't hate the haters for stating the truth, let's just try winning and they will go elsewhere.

stop the pity party. The BIG treats us like crap and we are one of their own. they don't give a sh$t about us. I should care when the BIG gets left out?? screw them.....just give us our money.
They treat us like crap so much that they rescued us from the Purgatory that is the AAC...we could be UConn right now...would you prefer that?

Depends on who you want to compare us to? You want to live in the past, compare us to UConn. You want to live in the present, compare us to Maryland. If you choose the latter, then yea they treat us like crap.

Sorry $12.6 mil. last year and $14.4 mil. this year isn't going to cut it when your sponsoring 27 athletic programs(need to cut more). Compared to Maryland receiving $30 mil. for 20 athletic programs.

I still don't understand the feeling of crap...we signed up for this? We knew this was the cost of entering the league (by cost I mean making three times as much money as we would have in the AAC if not more)...either Maryland had more leverage or our administrators didn't utlize our TV leverage...
