I downloaded the app about a month ago & it has completely changed my after work routine as well as my after hours still at work routine.

As a State fan living in GA, this app has become invaluable to me. I'm still figuring out the lineup of shows, but B&B daily & TSOS weekly are by far my favorites. I also really enjoy the one with Mario Haggan.

Damnit, this sounds like a paid post! Which, couldn't be further from the truth. I've never even received an invite to the SPS Blue Tent on game days!**

I just want to give all involved in BSR their props. Keep up the good work, fellas. I thoroughly enjoy it.

A few poignant thoughts/questions:

1) HD6 is far from nasally.**

2) Brian, how have you never played "500?"

3) Through a month of listening, I've found the following to be odd: At first I thought it was only Bob (Ozarka?) Carskadon that used the moniker, "MSU" in speach to refer to OUR team. However, I've noticed others doing so habitually as well, DS & HD6 included. While, this is merely semantics, I wonder if this is an institutional turn of phrase. Is there something wrong with "State?" The UGA fans I'm surrounded by attempt to give me **** when I say "State." Yet, no other school in the SEC, or the South, is recognized as such, as predominantly. (Perhaps, some NC dogs would disagree.) Especially given our marketing campaigns, hashtags, renaming the athletic website, etc.

I'll clarify, if need be, after the replies.

Again, thanks to BSR & all that contribute.

I think it's an age thing. I have always said I am a State fan. And you are right, there is only one other school in the SEC that could say state, and LSU is never going to go that route.

Thanks for your kind words, we will keep on trying to make it the best.

I'm 26. I say and always have said State. I even said State while living in North Carolina. The NC State clan tried to steal the "This is Our State" campaign as well and when I showed them we did it years before, they were actually embarrassed.

Anyway, I prefer to use State and I've actually noticed an uptick in the talking heads calling us State on TV, radio etc.

I live in Orlando now and I say State down here as well. And btw, Ozarka is not Bob. I know him personally.

Although Bob is cool, he's definitely not Ozarka cool. This needs to be in the "things that are true (According to Brian)" segment.

BSR is great

"State" is a regional thing. Up here, when I say "State", most counter with "Ohio State"? Thus, I have to say "Mississippi State" as there are multiple MSUs within driving distance too.

Also, what is the BSR app?

I have always thought that msu should market itself as "State" more. Maybe the reason we haven't is the poor little msu mentality. Why couldn't we become nationally known as State? Especially given our tv exposure with the SEC contract, etc. I mean, our band spells STATE on the freakin field.

Whenever some random person talks sports with me when I'm wearing the M-banner logo or my old standby S T A T E sweatshirt...they start yammering on about Michigan State. And maybe ask where they can get some maroon Sparty gear.

Steve's show is good for keeping up with recruiting, although his guttural noises and other disgusting noises make him hard to listen to sometimes. The Slant with Bumphis and Shrek was close dethroning the B&B show. What's up with Robby and Joel's show? I enjoy Joel's sunshine and I imagine he sounds exactly like everyone thinks State fans sound like. Good Ol' Boys is good when they decide to do one. The only one I don't like is Double Coverage. Wimberly is a giant tool. He'll remind you know at least 3 times a week that he does crossfit and that he's sipping on an energy drink. He's intro's are a little silly. Using clips of yourself saying things oozes douchebag. You're not Pawwwl or DP, you're just a guy who brags about doing crossfit and has a chinstrap beard. I say all this and I still listen to every episode that he puts out. Anything State is better than nothing State. BSR has changed my mornings and driving for sure. Hopefully when I get my king ranch after the first of the year it will be even better.

I have notice Bob using "MSU" as well. Just curious where is he from?

In the GTR, back in the day, when talking college football to someone, people used "State". However wcbi and the dispatch used " MSU" in their stories.

I still use "State". Most folks in the SE USA know to whom I'm referring.

Do I say "MSU"? I thought I usually say State and thinking about it - rarely say MSU.

I never say MSU. It's either State or Mississippi State. If I'm around people who don't understand the "State" moniker, they probably think MSU is Michigan State.

Heh. I didn't mean to create this much stress. It's mainly Bob. I really noticed it during corndog week. The MSU/LSU conversations were interesting to hear. But, since I noticed it my ears were attuned to it for a while & I picked up on it every time.

If they get us confused with Mich St then I wouldn't have a sports convo w them

They bring nothing to the table. No way to confuse us. I have friends who confuse us with Ole Miss, but it's really when they ask "Who's Mississippi play this week." I don't know many who actually get the two schools confused, just the naming of them because they think of Ole Miss as Ole Miss not Mississippi.

If you really want to blow someone's mind from Georgia tell them we had a bulldog mascot 40 years before they did. They pride them selves with the myth that they were the original ones. Also, Florida's "Gator Chomp" came from some Florida staff watching our cheerleaders at a State/Florida game. They were needing something unique to them that could counter the FSU "Tomahawk Chop".

So, off the top of my head, we would compete with:
1. Michigan State
2. NC State
3. Ohio State (I did not realize some people shortened that to "state")
4. ? Arizona State? Washington State?

I've been graduated from State and MSU for almost 20 years. When I was attending, had several old timers ask was I going to State College and one fellow asked if I was going to Mississippi A&M. So, I guess it's a generation thing.

Want to get hammered? Take a drink every time he says "nevertheless". I actually started counting (sad, I know) one show and hit 6 times in 10 minutes. I quit counting and went back to B&B.

I guess I'm weird, but I say State when referring to athletics, but MSU or Mississippi State when talking about the university from an academic standpoint. Kind of like if someone asked me "Where did you go to school?", then I'd say "Mississippi State" or "MSU" (if I'm talking to someone from Mississippi). But if someone asks who my favorite college football team is, then I say "State".

Bob is a Starkville native. Both his parents taught at State.

He may use MSU when he's in journalist/objective mode.

I've never lived in Florida, so I have no clue about the Seminoles (or as my Clemson friends refer to them: ***** Holes). But, I think they use FSU. Does anyone know?

UGA still had a goat as a mascot while State was the bulldogs. Officially, not sure. However, since we are on Bully 12+ & they are on Uga 7ish, at best, the proof is in the pudding. Plus, their retarded mostly white inbreeds don't live as long.

I'll take your bet and challenge you to listen to Ben Waite and count how many times he says interesting. At least 20x a show.
Steve also doesn't pronounce the h in humble. I vomit every time I hear it.

I was just about to mention this!!

EVERY time I hear him say "umble"....which is unusually often...I want to stab my ear drums. I actually enjoy his show but he has a unique accent that I can't place. I stopped listening to Waite's show because he says "interesting" so much. It became a game to me on my long drive home in the afternoon to try to predict when he was going to say "interesting" and say it before him. Honestly....he's got to be the most interested guy in the history of humanity. Interesting, right?

Let's be honest. In all of the this talk about weird phrases that radio hosts say we all miss the best one.

"Period. End of discussion."

I'd like to think that my comment somehow had a hand in this. It's going to be hard to compete with an ogre reading tweets about Boy Meets Girl sent by Darius Slay

Really appreciate the kind words on BSR. We work hard each and everyday to bring you as well as fans of other teams the best podcasts. Tell your MSU friends and other fan friends if you can. Always let us know your feedback, we're always listening. Thanks again.

I am almost sure when SWAC fans talk about Jackson State they say "State". I have heard that a bunch from them.
