Bryson Williams from Lincoln out here starting at nose guard as a true freshman.smh..previous staff didnt offer him until 6 months after virginia tech and wisconsin.
I don't think the previous staff ever offered him. Frost came in and gave an offer soon after he was hired.

Frost tried to fix the situation as soon as he landed in lincoln but too much damage was done. They basically ignored a power 5 player in their own backyard.

I think the season starter was 348 pounds. Did this kid get hurt or was he too heavy?

Yet they went all in on the York kid who sits over at Iowa Western if I’m not mistaking.
Played 10 games as a true freshman at Louisiana Lafayette.

Previous staff felt like they only needed 1 DT so they went with Mapieu over Williams. We would have been fine with either one. Not getting either is what hurt.

Sagapolu (sp?). Season ending surgery. Also Garrett Rand has been out with a season ending injury but he may have been out the entire season.

At this point, it may be water under the bridge, but as long as Williams is playing for a rival in our division, it’s hard to say it’s time to look forward. As much as I wanted Riley to succeed, and believed he knew what he was doing with regards to recruiting, this appears to be a huge miss.

Edit: so happy to have Frost on board and know that misses like this are a thing of the past.

They didn’t ignore him, they brought him in and flat told he he want good enough to play here.
They chose the kid out of York who was a question mark academically and less polished over Williams. To them, it was an either/or situation rather than taking both kids. Riley's staff was a lot like Pelini's in that they didn't respect the level of Nebraska high school competition and at the same time, often times settled for less talented players, and a few more talented but lazy players, from out of state.

Right but that means you suck at talent evaluation. Kids accross the country play against diff comp. Film is a part of the evauluation. I know the broadcaster last night said williams was already one of the strongest people in the weight room at wisconsin! You know how big of a statement that is??? He prob squated more than NU d lineman as a senior in HS!!! Not good enough to play here they told him.smh

If Riley & Co didn't respect the level of Nebraska high school competition then why would they have offered & accepted Mapieu? I don't think it's been determined yet which player is more talented or has more work ethic between Mapieu & Williams has it?

Also, even if one is more talented than the other doesn't mean the less talented player sucks.

I think they saw a lot of raw potential in Mapieu.

At what point do we stop looking backwards at the old coaching staff?

They laid an egg. Missed on a lot of things. New staff in to clean up. Look ahead, not backwards.

Well said OP...time to look forward !!
