How much bigger has he gotten during the shutdown?

Steroids.
I heard 25# of muscle. If true, I don’t know how you gain that much without steroids. But these guys aren’t that big. People talk about him being huge now and Koepka being huge, they’re huge by golf standards. Bryson isn’t some unnaturally large human. Getting to be his size naturally isn’t difficult. Potentially gaining 25# of muscle in 3 months is a little suspect.

ETA: well, he is in his mid 20’s, it may be possible. That takes some serious dedication.

I saw where he is around 240 now and wants to get to 270 as his playing weight.

Yeah, the 25 lb I can believe. That said, if it’s all muscle, I’ll just say that we have several Mr Olympia winners posting on this board as well

He looks a little flabby around the midsection to me so not sure all muscle. He is an interesting guy tho. I like that he is willing to try different things like his single length irons. And his putting technique is different. He looks so stiff putting but it seems to work well for him.

I’m not entirely sure why, but I’m a fan. I’ve never been able to get on the Spieth or Thomas bandwagon, so I’m glad to finally have another American to pull for besides Fowler

Wow I was wondering myself how he was so big. He wasn't a small guy, but I don't remember him being so bulky.

I think a lot of the injuries Tiger had was because he was too focused on looking like a ripped athlete. Getting all that muscle may not be the best thing for a golfer. Rory seems to have a good blend of muscle and flab since we're talking about male golfer's bodies***

It's not three months, more like 8 -- he put on most of the weight after the Tour Championship.

There’s a “Rainman” vibe to him. ETA: Or maybe more like Forrest Gump. He lives in his own golf world like no other pro.

I read where he said he was drinking 6 or 7 protein shakes a day, haha. So his kidneys may shut down and none of this matter.

But, yes, he can absolutely pound a golf ball. I saw where he tried driving the 420 yard 17th green earlier this week, in a practice round. He stayed dry but said it was too risky for a tournament. Just think about how far you have to be able to hit a golf ball to even jokingly try that. He hit it 372, and was just right of the green.

Yeah, it’s nuts. I used to think I could pound it back in the day when I’d occasionally hit a drive about 280-290 on a perfect day into a wide *** open fairway. Then I got to play a scramble in Southaven with two different guys that ended up qualifying for the St Jude pro-am round. One could hit a 4-iron farther than most of my 3-wood shots, and you can seriously tell the difference in their ability as soon as the ball leaves the tee.

I know the PGA stats say that tour players average somewhere around 285 or so off the tee. However, make no mistake, most of them could absolutely mash a ball 60 yards beyond that if they didn’t have to worry about tournament layouts. They are incredible

It is interesting how there is a noticeable difference when the ball leaves the club head of an elite player, even if the distance traveled isn’t much different, it’s a completely different shot.

They are ABSURD. If you ever get a chance to see a borderline pro-level golfer play in a local tournament, it’s worth the entry fee alone. You’ll quickly realize that they could embarrass your local clubs best player, the way he embarrasses you. I played in a tournament with a fringe level pro player, back when I played a lot and could hit it pretty far (I thought). My team was paired with his on Sunday and I “pounded” my opening drive, and puffed my chest out like “yeah buddy, get you some of this today”. His partners didn’t have clubs out I noticed, and he stepped up and hit his 3 wood about 20 yards past my drive. And off they went, to get started on our *** whipping for the day.

And you all are right, the ball just sounds so much different coming off their club face. It’s like porn if you’re into golf. And when you’re trying to really man up on a 6-iron into a green and you realize they’re hitting a 9-iron or pitching wedge, it becomes pretty discouraging haha.

DeChambeau is a weirdo, but when you are hitting balls that are making PGA Pro’s say “wow”, you are accomplishing something.

I thought everyone was freaking out because he did this during the shutdown.

He kept bulking through the shutdown, but he was noticeably larger (and longer off the tee) at the Genesis back in February. I follow golf news via The Shotgun Start and they were talking about this in the early winter.

Pro's don't make bad swings, they may be off center a little on their shot but really never make a bad swing.
Also, their superior ball striking and swing speed are what makes them so good, along with their consistency.
I didn't even mention how great hey are 100 yards in, can always get up and down in 2 shots.
