Lee Mayberry another great. He committed to TU during his sophomore season but switched to Arkansas when a sister married a Richardson I think.

I just thought he found out what an a$$hole JD was. Lol. And Kevin Pritchard was a pretty good player at Kansas.

We're a tough place to recruit to, lots of little things here and there to trip on along the path to Tulsa for many players.

I don't worry about rankings, more interested in the performance once they get here. I would say he is doing C+ work, nothing great but nothing really bad either.
What are some of these little things?

I don’t know what he’s referring to unless he considers making kids go to class and pass said classes is one of the little things to trip on. I would say Tulsa as a whole but honestly Tulsa’s a great place. Campus is great. And if people say there’s nothing to do, BS, there’s plenty to do. More thank Stillwater and the cow-tipping Friday nights.

No , Lee committed to JD and his coach Lonnie Spencer was hired by JD. Jirsa was the lead recruiter I think. Pritchard wanted to come to TU because of Kevin O’Neill but I don’t think he wanted anything to do with JD. Lol.

We're a small school, not a big campus to attract attention to.

When it comes to local players there are three schools that play in P5 conferences with a pretty good chance of going dancing even in down years within a 100 miles.

We struggle to get even local media coverage.

Average students won't cut it. We tend to get underrated recruits who are smart and work hard, then become great. Not every player is education focused or wants to be.

We're not a major city and we don't act like one. This may be shocking for people with new families or kids playing sports, but as a teenager Tulsa isn't high on the list of urban centers.

We're not a college town like Stillwater or Lawerence either so you don't get the benefit of being the only show.

If we're talking top flight recruits here we just eliminated a ton of kids based on who we are as a school and our location. Those things aren't bad, but they do mean a kid growing up in OKC, Kansas City, Tulsa, Dallas, Houston, who has a lot of options has a few reasons to say no.

So we get kids who are good students with a focus on academics, who are local and want to show out, who are under the radar. Not many of those kids are getting ranked by rivals as top 100s. Doesn't mean they aren't great players or winners.

Anyone really doubting either of our current commits? Local kid with a focus on education and a under the radar guy who is driven to win? Anyone see them as top 100 rankings nationally right now? How do you feel about Joiner? Reed? Harrington? Bryce's pops? Pooh? KJ? Eric Coley? The rubberband man? Harris? Johnnie Gendron? Our entire basketball history is built on this.

Both our current commitments seem like kids who will thrive at TU. Both look like players with drive to me. Both look like players to be excited about. Neither seems like they would culturally fit in with say with Louisville, or UCLA, or even say Villanova. We don't fit the mold of high profile basketball power.

Don't forget that Mayberry's father got a job in Fayetteville around the time Nolan was recruiting him...

With Tisdale, his older brother got a scholly to OU even after he blew out his knee his senior year. There were also a few other things that swung the pendulum in OU's direction...

You are right. We could list several "unusual" reasons they didn't sign with Tulsa. Most have been revealed on this board in the past. But that is water under the bridge.......

This is who I have mentioned several times. The SIU -edwardsville coach was fired so he should be able to get a release. He was a man among boys in the state tournament. Rod is very close to him and I am sure he is trying to get him some TU love.
Still a no brainer to hire Rod Thompson to get this type of player

Would Haith bring him on with Hill is the question. It would free up Joiner sooner rather than later for the two, if Thomas, Hill, & Christopolous were playing and competing for point guard minutes. Just don't know that Haith would like signing that many point guards that close together.

Never seen Hill play in person, only online videos. However I just tgink you grab Thomas if he decides to come to TU. Our formula for two small guards has worked fine before.
(Parker,Swanson,Reed, noissues with me)

6 ft is not small for a college point guard and is only slightly on the small side for the NBA. Chris Paul is six feet, the average is about 6'2 in the NBA.

Dante Swanson was 5'10
Antonio Reed was 5'10

Hill is that size.

I think Swanson and Reed were closer to 5'8" that is my height and I could look them both straight in the eye.
