Here's why we don't like him......He created an account on Rivals with the sole purpose of pushing a narrative and agenda---and with his very first post, he revealed what he was up to by asking people why they don't like him, and questioning what he might have done to cause such feelings.

This ^^^^^.

He’s a good coach and I don’t really dislike him like I do, say, Ole Roy, Self and K. My wife and her family, OTOH, can’t stand the guy. They hate him with a passion. Will come back with details as to why, OP.

Great coach that lied to the NCAA about throwing a BBQ.

So what, he lied about a damn BBQ. Half the countries hero's are wife beaters, coke addicts or run a vicious dog fighting ring. But Pearl lied about a BBQ.
He's a UK fan, even showed up in the seats at Rupp when he was banned from coaching years ago, and always says very respectful things.

The animus about Pearl, I think, doesn't really have to do with the BBQ stuff at Tennessee. That was small time stuff - he was just stupid for lying about it. The real reason people don't like Pearl dates to the "snitching episode" from his time at Iowa. He was battling an assistant from Illinois for a particular recruit, and baited that recruit into divulging that Illinois was paying him to come to Illinois, and recorded the conversation, and then turned the school and assistant coach in for cheating. Funny, now that situation probably would get an eye roll, but at that time paying kids was cheating with a capital A, scandalous, no one would defend it. Despite that, one thing that was worse than cheating, was snitching. Thin Blue Line kind of stuff. He was practically black-balled from the coaching fraternity.

That's the real reason a whole lot of people have no use for Pearl.

Second reason, for me personally: in 2011 Sports Illustrated published the single best piece on John Calipari I've ever read. Any and every UK fan should read it. In one part they get him to come clean on the specific coaches he doesn't like. There were 3 names that Cal gave - and Bruce Pearl was one. Calhoun was another, I forget the 3rd. If Cal doesn't like him, that's good enough for me. heh.

Damn I’ll have to read it just to see who the third coach was. I figured he couldn’t stand Calhoun. He was always a douche to Cal when Cal was at UMass. Wouldn’t schedule him and was always belittling Cal. **** Calhoun. Bag.

Probably John Chaney. They almost got into a fight once and Chaney threatened to kill Cal. :joy:

Agree with this. I don't think people dislike him for the Tennessee BBQ. I think most see him as really stupid for doing what he did there, as he made it significantly worse for himself by lying and trying to orchestrate the lie.

But the snitching and then getting caught is why most don't like him. It's why he was blackballed for a long time, and it's something that will follow him forever. No matter how young and dumb he was, no matter how much he may have bettered himself since that incident, he'll never be able to live that one down. And the second someone doesn't know Pearl and here's that story, they almost immediately have a bad opinion of him.
