I would agree with Pearl. Cats don't play good D, will be a short weekend for them.
If anyone would know what it takes to get beat in the NCAA tournament Pearl should. I am still looking for his championship ring. He is the ultimate expert on losing in the Big Dance.
As I stated in another thread against this same Pearl quote, our defense is the best it's been all year and is top 10 in the country, yet he's suddenly concerned about our defense?
Maybe he has a secret objective to piss off our team so they can come out and kick butt

I don't disagree with him either, except for the fact that we played literally ZERO defense against them the first time and lost by 5. They are better now, but so are we.
Bruce didn't say anything different than what most of us have been discussion. Our defense is paramount for this game

Why wouldn't we defend? I mean its a sweet 16 game in Memphis in front of a huge UK fan turnout I'm sure and its do or die v a team that has beat UK two years running. Plus or D is #8 nationally. Moot point so was Pearl's comments.
He is still running with the late January narrative. Maybe someone should tell ole Bruce this Kentucky team has won 13 straight on the back of its defense, not it's offense.

I listened to the show. He mentioned that our defense has improved, but he dwelled on the problems we would have if we struggled on D.
There have been years that Pearl is very complimentary of Kentucky. This hasn't been one of them. Might be as simple as him not giving us much credit early, and choosing to stick with that. People are funny like that.

UCLA is giving up 73.5 in the tournament and we are giving up 66. Our defense is ranked 8th, and UCLA's is 77th. But it's our defense that worries him?
This is true of every team in every game as well as UCLA. If they don't defend us well we can beat them by a good margin. If we dont d up they beat us by a good margin. My problem with pearl as well as every so called expert out there. We have showed vast improvement defensively and rebounding. UCLA has not. So why say this about us and not them. If monk gets back into form look out cause we have been winning with him not scoring as much. Obviously the league was alot better than everyone thought so how we performed in the league should be in our favor now. But they are still looking at January and judging us and it didn't work in 11 it didn't work in 14 and it's not gonna work now. Cal's teams take time and he has them peaking
Sweaty Bruce is exactly right, and to expand on his thoughts, I believe if we shoot a really low % from the floor, we're going to have a hard time winning. I also think if we have a lot of turnovers or get crushed on the boards we'll be hard pressed to win. And certainly a combination of 2 or all of those will make it hard to win.
Speaking of that. Are any of the talking heads seriously talking about UCLA's D as a liability?
I am at total peace. We made the sweet 16. This team has met expectations I would say, anything more is a bonus.
But I don't have a problem with people thinking we may not win a game against a top 10 team who beat us at home already this year.
My feelings on this game is 60% on UCLA winning and 40% UK. Hope they prove me wrong and shut Ball's Dad's mouth.
