My hypotherical scenerio for the open minded people here is how do you think Bruce Pearl would do here as head coach?

The reason i ask is because i respect the job bruce pearl has done at Auburn. His team this year is extremely balanced and very fun to watch. They are very sound defensively and play with tenacity, but its his offensive approach that has really impressed me. His guys can straight light it up. His guards are extremely skilled shooters and have very good court awareness on both ends of the court and are fearless. This Auburn team plays a certain style that i see will translate well in March.

Do you all think with the resources and the attraction that is kentucky basketball, that Bruce Pearl would be able to compete for top talent and get them to play at the level that his players play at auburn? And do you think his style is compatible with top tier recruits?

I like the mentality of his players. They’re like all the Tennessee teams he had that always gave us fits. Auburn will always give us fits too as long as he’s coaching there. And yes top tier players can adapt to his style. Only problem is his past is too tainted for UK. Way too many skeletons.

His teams just jack up threes and the days they are off , they lose.

His only team he has ever had that I respected was the UT one where all their startere were suspended and they made the elite 8 with the backups...Princes relative was on the team.
He hasnt assembled a cohesive team since then so I am chalking that up as luck.
Calipari is a similar coach to Pearl yet 100X better.

I would take Louisvilles coach over Pearl all day

Thanks for the props on our team. Its definitely impressive that he has been able to take a program that was arguably the worst in the country the 15 years before he arrived and turn us into a contender with a mixture of a few elite guys and some that were overlooked. Bryce Brown had no offers to any big schools and Bruce saw him play at a summer camp and offered him on the spot. Incredible evaluation there as Bryce broke our school record for career 3s tonight.

We have the #7 recruiting class for next year so he is also drastically upgrading our talent level. It appears we have a shot at an even better class in 2020 as we are in on several of the top 15 guys in the country. Being so close to Georgia helps as there is an incredible amount of talent there. One of the 5*s are are in on for 2020 has 2 4* teammates in the 2019 class that have already signed with us.

The BBQ Bruce got in trouble for seems pretty quaint now compared to all the coaches who have been caught on tape discussing buying players. Since he got a show cause for that, several of these coaches should get lifetime bans.

If we ever let Pearl leave, I will be livid. We gave Gus Malzahn a $49 million for losing 5 games a year so we ought to give Bruce a life time contract with $100 million and name our arena after him.

I hope for Auburn fans sake , he becomes a consistent winner. Though, I have seen him enough to recognize he runs a very loose program.
Not breaking the rules type loose - more so-allows his guys to play undisciplined ball type loose.

He's got the personality for this job, but Barnhart would definitely not ever consider him for it. There's not a lot of coaches out there that can handle the pressures of winning here and dealing with the press and fans. Just look at Gillispie when they tried to interview him.

Pearl is a cheater and even though Person went down in the recent FBI investigation you can bet Pearl was who was behind the infraction. Do not need a cheater at our program.

I am not sweating Pearl. He has won nothing and never will.

Last year he was knocked out in round of 32 .

And we have bunch of angry mofo right now because Cal won the sec tourney and made it to sweet sixteen last year.

I actually like Pearl. He's always very respectful and complimentary of our program and he's turned Auburn into a tough team in just a few short years. I think he could do well here after Calipari decides to hang it up, but there's a few other guys in front of him who I'd want.

I still think Billy Donovan will be the number one guy on the list to take over after Cal retires. Anyhow, I love Coach Cal and hope he's here for another 10 years. This team is going to be fine once they learn to compete and play balls to the wall for 40 minutes. I have no doubt that we will be a favorite to cut the nets down in 4 months.

Cool story, thanks for sharing! Bruce is a very genuine guy. When he came to Auburn, he immediately set about trying to build a following as only our most hardcore fans paid attention to our crappy basketball team before he arrived. He knew we wouldn't be good for a few years, but he endeared himself to our fan base even when the team was hovering around .500. Before the UK game at Auburn last year, he bought a ton of food and took it out to the students who were waiting in line all day to get in the student section. He went down the line handing the food out and visiting with the students which is certainly not something most coaches would do.

Have you watched us this year? Our defense was better last year, but its improved a ton this year. Pearl put a huge emphasis on it during preseason camp. Most of the reports we got were about the team focusing on being better defensively. They played great D against Washington in that blowout. We couldn't hit a shot against Duke and hung into the game by playing hard on D. Last night, we switched to a zone the last 7 mins against zona and went on an 11-0 run and closed the game out 18-6 to hold them to 57 points for the game.
