The much-maligned secondary, the so-called weak spot on the team, shut down Rice's passing game, with a little help help from the line and the linebackers. Many self-inflicted wounds, which didn't seem to hurt them much. But it's better to clean that up, and they will.

The Rice I saw tonight makes me think Class 7A has no clear favorite this season.

The MC I saw tonight makes me think they have some work to do if they are going to beat LWE.
Everyone keeps saying MC isn't ready to play LWE..or they don't think they can beat LWE based upon their play this year. So far MC has beaten the #1 team in Ohio and in IL (ranks as they played them) #7 St. Rita, #4 Nazareth, and #3 BR. And they still have ranked Fenwick and play @LA. LWE has Maine South on their resume. LWE is outstanding, no doubt there, but MC is way more battle tested. I just hope MC isn't too banged up with this monster schedule they played!!

Hoping #5 on Defense McGee is ok - I think he left game after 1st Q and it had a dramatic effect on Rice penetration. MC was the bertter team and clearly won the coaching battle too. Correct me if I am wrong. Rice gets ball back on MC 29 after punt with 2:42 (granted I hought they should have used a TO before that to force MC to punt with about 3:20 left. But regardless - you got 2 TOs and ball on 29 and yuo do a run, then another run and you don't use your TOP - then you throw an incmplete pass and turnoveron downs after a short pass (so ehh on the play calling). But better yet - did Rice really lose game with 2 TOs on the clock? Figured if you sccore even with 1 minute left you at least can try an onsides. Instead just a head scratcher in last 2:42

Also MC the far more disciplined team - I think Rice had 12 penalites (3 pass inteference calls) for 110 yards vs MC who had maybe 3 penalites.
I didn't understand their lack of urgency the final 2 minutes. They had the ball and over 2 min and they were very vanilla on the play calls. Like you said, go for it and try the onside. I didn't feel comfortable with BR and the ball with that time left.

Lots of penalties on both sides, but all the false starts on Carmel didn’t matter. Dow ling was amazing throwing under pressure and may well be even better than his brother by the time he’s done.

Pass interference calls killed BR, as did those stops deep inside Caravan territory. Thought the game was over at half, but they made some adjustments and Grey and the offense looked good for most of the 3rd.

As Tops mentioned, really hope #5 McGhee is okay.

I think MC will be ready for LWE, but I don’t think LA in Wilmette is a gimme. Not that I think MCs staff will let the players take them lightly. It’s just one of the wonders of the Catholic League and the Rambler team Rice beat earlier will be the same one MC faces week 9.

Maybe. On a good night. I haven't seen DGN, but I have seen Rice. They are no joke.
I really don’t know. I think BR is as solid as they were Lausch’s senior year. Granted, he was hurt against Wheaton North, but even if he was 💯, I don’t know that BR would have beat them.

Those West Suburban teams are tough like that in my eyes.

The 7A class seems to be a bit down this year. Batavia nearly lost its third game of the season last night. While unbeaten, St. Charles North is not overpowering anybody. Lincoln-Way West and Lincoln-Way Central appear to be solid, but no better than last year's versions. The same can be said of Downers Grove North. Normal is definitely down compared to last year. St. Rita is not a threat. Prospect and Rolling Meadows are long-shots at best.

With Mt. Carmel having moved on to 8A, this is Brother Rice's year. They currently deserve to be ranked #1 in 7A and are the favorite to win the 7A championship. Nevertheless, with only one state football championship in its history, and with some poor playoff performances the last couple of years, Brother Rice cannot be considered a prohibitive favorite.

Anybody writing BR off after this one is mistaken.

If BR punches it in from the 5 their first possession it’s a whole new game with the momentum.

I think #5 McGee came out of the game in the 2nd quarter, so that hurt.

Hope all of the MC players that went down are ok. It must have been humid in the red zone 😂

BR will be fine. They played poorly and still had a shot late in the game vs one of the most highly touted teams in IL history.

Is Lynch allergic to victory formation? Running plays up two scores with less than a minute left was weird

MC is 8A favorite, but East has a shot in the shoot out.

Including RM in this group is a wild move

LWE has a shot no matter how the game is played.

After getting whooped by LWE here are my thoughts. LWE offense is probably their best ever. QB and WR for sure are. Oline is good. Jonas prefers to throw but if you force him to run he can beat you. #1 LaVista is great! Runs great routes, catches everything and can take it to the house anytime. But…. There is something about their defense that I’m not sold on. Don’t get me wrong they are good, but not sure they’re up to the level of the normal LWE teams. Just my opinion. So if I had to pick a winner, I would say the Caravan by 10.

McGee has a slight hammy pull - not a tear - will be back in 2 weeks (heard it was tight going into the game and he pushed it). That's football. However if he plays healthy entire game I do think it might (note might) have kept a TD off the board. Rice O threw a monkey wrence in final 7 minutes - just kept shooting selves in foot

BR has gimmes until the playoffs. I'd ice him until then. They should be overwhelming favorites to win 7A, make sure he is 100%.

Guess that’s good news. Just hope he’s 100 percent in two weeks.
Have to agree that he may have helped possibly keep a score off the board. After he went down, that’s when the MC offense started shredding the D for stretches of the game.

Did you see how easily he was getting in the backfield? He didn’t quit.
Then can we call it an extended time out or the game??

When it got tough he chose to sit

I know that’s not what you want to hear, he is a young talented kid that needs this experience to level up.
One day he will be really good, but wasnt last Friday

Dude why are you spreading ****? The kid had a tight hammy - so he's supposed to man up and perhaps go out and tear it? C'mon you say you know someone then IM me that person at Rice that said that and I'll follow up with them ok?

Gray threw for one TD and had a total of 87 passing yards. Whether he was off or the defense threw him off, the outcome is the same.

Home and road in high school is a huge difference and I think that showed. In a big game I think we saw the WR corp of BR wasn't up to the task as the D line for MC took away the run.

Not sure what will happen to BR the rest of the way but they are not going to see anything better than what they have already seen.

And LWE and MC will be a good one

Credit MC for being the better team but I think BR is going to be just fine.

BR had something like 186 rushing yards split among three players, not a bad showing. But BR couldn't capitalize and the runs went for naught. Football is a game of compound interest, getting chunks of yardage at an exponential rate.
