That strip from Brooks seemed to let them hang in at that point. Starting to take a little control, that was how big that one play was.Brooks gets stripped of the ball way to much - he gets a tough rebound and gets stripped that leads to a three - he lets a beautiful pass go through his hands for a set play dunk - he clearly pushed off on our legendary 4 man outside arm up in the air inbounds play. The open 3 I’m not crushed about because he’s a good jump shooter and he can make that shot occasionally- wasn’t my first pick but I swear I’d rather he shoot it than TyTy- Wheeler - Oscar only Grady would I want to shoot it. TyTy jumper is flat broke got yo get him going again
How about the two minute stretch in the second half where he scored 6 of 8 of our points to keep us ahead? How about the fast breaks where he was able to knife through the defense and finish at the rim unlike anyone else on our team other than Oscar? Is being one of two players to shoot over 50% on the team good? How about being the only other player besides Oscar to have more than 3 rebounds? Wheeler shot 5-13, Tyty shot 3-12 (including the last meaningless three), and Grady couldn't get open for more than 3 shots and you all are blaming brooks for the loss? Toppin was playing like **** and Cal knew which is why Brooks played the whole game. Get off Brooks' back and blame the players who didn't actually show up to play, namely literally anyone besides Oscar or Keion.Which Brooks play impressed you the most yesterday? Was it the ill advised 3P in the final minutes with plenty of time on the shot clock? The key rebound he let an Arkansas player take away from him that lead to a 3 point basket by them? Maybe the perfect lob play that he let go right through his hands? Or was it the push off on the out of bounds play that he had no reason to have to push off? I’ll hang up and listen.
I agree. He’s a very talented player, but has no basketball IQ. Those are 2 things that contributed to our loss yesterday, although not the only reasons.Throws an elbow then jacks a 3. Ball game
Was a good call. Could have been called A Flagrant 1 because of the contact at neck and shoulders. Game was lost long before that callLikely the best shot we get there I won’t complain about that. The elbow call is exactly why it’s so hard to win in the SEC on the road, that same play happens thousands of times with no call but as soon as there’s 30 seconds left they call that an offensive foul.
How about getting stuffed and losing possession to Ark. stuffed by 6’2” guard on a 6’7” wing. How about the two minute stretch in the second half where he scored 6 of 8 of our points to keep us ahead? Yea true big men should never get stripped by guards, kinda like guards should never get blocked by big men. Surprised he's still on the team personally. How about getting stuffed and losing possession to Ark. stuffed by 6’2” guard on a 6’7” wing.
It was a good call in Your mind but if You go back and look at it, the defensive player was holding Brooks arm and Brooks was jerking his arm loose.. I don’t like that inbounds play but it is designed to get the ball in and it usually works for that. Was a good call. Could have been called A Flagrant 1 because of the contact at neck and shoulders. Game was lost long before that call
Amen, people need to get off Brooks back this game. How about the two minute stretch in the second half where he scored 6 of 8 of our points to keep us ahead? I've said it all season, Brooks has extremely weak hands. He gets stripped constantly and he fumbles the ball away more than anyone I can remember and yesterday, it was on full display.Yea true big men should never get stripped by guards, kinda like guards should never get blocked by big men. Surprised he's still on the team personally.
Oh 0kay, yeah, lets just ignore the obvious. Got it.Amen, people need to get off Brooks back this game.
Wonder why OT didn't over play to the right hand? Hate when a righty gets to go right and a lefty gets to go left. And if can't over play why not go to a two three zone? They haven't shot well all year and they got so many drives on us. Did we play any zone or a box in one to contain the guard?I agree with many of the Brooks’ comments. Another thing that lost the game was Arkansas’ big man (Williams) scoring 10 straight points at the end of the game. As well as Oscar played all game, his defense during that spree by Williams was not very good. He was too quick for Oscar and was lucky enough to make the shots.
^100% thisHow about the two minute stretch in the second half where he scored 6 of 8 of our points to keep us ahead? I won't disagree with you, but Wheeler takes shots out of necessity and he actually hit 2 of 4, they were ugly, but they went in.Putting so much blame on Brooks is also ignoring the obvious. We have a PG that can't shoot, TyTy who has lost his shot, Grady who never seems to get open, etc. All those are obvious too.
Brooks was awesome against Arkansas, until he wasn't at the end. It was a brutal ending for him and helped lose the game.
Cats were up 52-48 with the ball, Brooks misses an easy rebound, then shortly after has a rebound taken out of his hands that leads to an Ark three, and then ends the game with three turnovers, 2 fouls, three missed shots (including one where Grady was WIDE open for an easy three).
Here is my question to you.Oh 0kay, yeah, lets just ignore the obvious. Got it.
I have no problem with Brooks taking shots, it's when he doesn't rotate fast enough or at all and hangs his teammates out to dry it bothers me. Not knowing if we are switching or double teaming the ball handler on a pick and roll. Or missing a wide open Grady late in the game. His basketball IQ seems very low for someone that has played so many games. I would rather have a guy like Toppin in that is limited offensively but will make smart plays when the opportunity presents. Here is my question to you.
Which shot do you cringe at more...
1. Brooks from 16-18 feet?
2. Or Wheeler form 16-18 feet?
Neither are great things....but every time teams go under the high ball screen and Wheeler pulls up...I'm like crap they are baiting him into those shots.
We need to realize Brooks has 252 FG attempts and Wheeler 221 FG attempts....all while Wheeler has missed all or parts of like 5 games this year. Wheeler is shooting 43%FG while Brooks is 48% FG....yet you go on and on that Brooks is the reason we'll lose in March/poor shot taker.
I don't like anyone taking 18 footers, I think it's the worst shot in basketball. Here is my question to you.

We have never set good screens/ picks. You have to absorb contact for screens to be effective.Unless you’re quick as **** you can’t get open without some help and Grady isn’t quick. The only thing Cal ever has is do is set a half *** screen down low from Grady to run by. It’s not even a good screen. And they never run a double screen.
There’s ZERO excuse for not getting him more than 3 shots other than piss poor coaching.
Instead of blaming brooks, 'Id rather focus on our defense. We allowed arkansas to score very well.
So Wheeler banks in a 3pter....it counts but the opinion holds...he struggles to shoot and he takes as many shots as Brooks but you don't criticize him a bit while shooting a good bit lower percentage.I don't like anyone taking 18 footers, I think it's the worst shot in basketball.
The reason I'm not talking about Wheeler, is because he took his long range shots when the clock was low, Keion took his with a ton of time on the clock and it was just because he felt leather. He’s never seen a shot he doesn't like.
I had no problem with the wide open 3 pointer, the reward for hitting a 3 is so much higher than taking a long 2 pointer.
My problem with Brooks' long twos is he takes them at the wrong times and he rarely hits them.
So, I say I hate long two's and your reply is about Wheeler hitting a 3 pointer? This makes sense to you how?So Wheeler banks in a 3pter....it counts but the opinion holds...he struggles to shoot and he takes as many shots as Brooks but you don't criticize him a bit while shooting a good bit lower percentage.
As far as Brooks long twos...I get it, be nice if he could hit a foot deeper and count for 3pts....but Wheeler shoots a lower percentage and this post does not consider his play a major concern whereas Brooks is the major reason we might lose.....I still don't get it.
- Wheeler shooting 3's is just a tad better shot than Brooks. (25 to 30% respectively) The fact he banked one in is 99% lucky and proves him shooting them is a bad idea and should be looked down upon at the same level of disdain. Wheeler has attempted 40 3's on the year and Brooks 25. Yet we go off on Brooks for shooting bad shots but the PG is a bigger problem IMO. Yet you've gone on for pages on Brooks rear end but never mention a peep when our 5'8 PG hoists up 13 shots. So, I say I hate long two's and your reply is about Wheeler hitting a 3 pointer? This makes sense to you how?
19 footers are bad shots, unless the shot clock is ticking down, but Brooks takes his when there are still 20 seconds on the clock. Just take the 3.
However, when there is under a minute to go and the game is on the line, you have to know your limitations. Grady was open, get him the ball.
I don't like Wheeler shooting long two's either, which I've already stated, but I'm not going to pile on Wheeler when he banked IN a 3 pointer when the shot clock was low.
You’re an intelligent guy, so I know you see the differences here, but you're choosing to ignore them for some odd reason.
I'll take it another step further. Brooks took at least 3 long two's and all 3 were awful shots, because they were early in the shot clock, he missed them and Arkansas got easy points off each miss. You can get that shot anytime you want, but with 20 seconds on the shot clock, you better hit it if you're going to take it. He didn't. The one after the Tyty missed free throw, was an incredibly dumb shot.
he is at the end of his junior year, shouldn't he know them by now?He didn't play bad in my opinion. He just needs to know his limitations. I hope UK gets to play Arkansas in the SEC tourney. I think Notae will be Arkansas downfall in the tournament. He his a ball hog and they won't be playing at home.
lack of coachingYeah we should have got Grady a wide open 3 instead why didn’t we do that?
what is there to learn-there are no plays, no screens, nothingYou shouldn't even be in the position to get that "horrible call" You just run an inbounds play and it never happens, but Sharpe couldn't learn it in time.
not the 1st time he has pulled that stupid trick, yet he stays on the floorTyty missed a free throw in a tie game, we get the rebound, 20 seconds on the clock and this dipshit pulls the trigger on another stupid 18 footer that, of course, misses.
He has no concept of score, situation and time. We were in a dogfight and he was playing YMCA pick up ball.
I don't know why he thinks he can hit 18+ footers. He hit maybe 1 today, but took a dozen of them.
