Coming from Navy he should be “in the BOAT” and be all in on the toughness and being on time fronts at least.

Sounds like a good hire. He has experience as a successful DC. Runs multiple sets, primarily 3-4 and 4-2-5. I’m a fan of this hire.

He was up for the Broyles award this year. Top 15 assistant in the country. Everywhere he’s been they go get the ball. Tons of turnovers which will be huge for a Leach offense. Also he was a GA at my alma mater Southern Arkansas. The guy is a Mulerider so I’m on board!

Big time hire! 16th nationally in total defense at Navy.

Give us a top 25 defense with what our offense should be and it could be hell on wheels.

Navy coach seems to love Newberry and credited him and his qb for the reason Navy won 11 games this year.

I wouldn't call it an "awful" hire, but its disappointing. The guy has 1 season as a DC in FBS, and no P5 coaching experience. He has been successful at small schools, but who knows how that will translate to SEC play? It could work out, but I think Leach could have done much better. At least this shouldn't cut into his $4.7 million budget too much.

Knew this was going to happen. Awful hire.

yOu hAVe tO TrUsT LeACH!!!!!111

how is this an awful hire? He took navy who was one of the worst defenses and made them one of the best in a year. It sure as hell wasnt talent that turned the defense around. Means Newberry has a hell of scheme to do that. It doesn’t matter how much experience they have. If they can coach then they can coach.

I wouldn't even bother. There are some that have made their mind up about Leach and they'll never come around. Typical MState grumpers ...just not happy unless their bitchin and gripin about something.

I like this hire. It is not a retread and it is not someone who had a team loaded with 4 and 5 stars to make them look better than there really are.

I think OUR HC Mike Leach is assembling a very good staff. I am growing wool again.

Seems like a good hire. Seeing a MSU coach demand a military-type discipline from his players would please me.

I'm a little worried, we have recruited for the 4-2-5 for 2 years now. We have no true nosegaird, and we are very shallow at lb. Maybe some of our DE's can transition to olb, but DY was a weakness for us last year too. It's a run stopping d with the right personnel, but we may ne 5n for sermon year orb w

After doing some research this does look like a real up and coming coordinator. Good job at Kennesaw State and one impressive year at Navy. Unless you are a graduate of Navy or Kennesaw State I highly doubt anyone ever heard of him. Not even a Wiki page. I bet he does good things with our talent level tho

I don't know what my football IQ is, but I could only follow the first 2/3 of this.
