Former five-star Brian Bowen won’t ever play for Louisville, according to a release issued by the school.

Bowen was referenced in the FBI probe into corruption and bribery in college sports, with Adidas allegedly — per court documents — funneling $100,000 to Bowen’s family in an effort to land him at Louisville. Bowen enrolled with the Cardinals over the summer.

According to the release, Louisville “will provide [Bowen] written permission, per NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3, to contact another collegiate institutions [sic] if he wishes to transfer. If he remains at the institution, he can continue to receive his athleticism scholarship but he will not be allowed to practice with or compete for the institution’s men’s basketball team at any point in the future.”

“Brian has been a responsible young man for the university since he enrolled,” Louisville interim director of athletics Vince Tyra said in the release. “He has endeared himself to his teammates and the men’s basketball staff with a positive attitude during a very difficult period.”

Louisville also announced that it has parted ways with associate head coach Kenny Johnson.

Bowen and Johnson are the latest Louisville casualties related to the FBI investigation, with former coach Rick Pitino and former director of athletics Tom Jurich both losing their jobs shortly after the probe was made public.

A 6-foot-7 forward from La Lumiere School in Indiana, Bowen was the No. 19 overall player in the 2017 247Sports Composite. He never played for the Cardinals.
