Haven't seen his name mentioned in a while, but I think we are going to really miss him being our D Line coach. Captain obvious. I know we are young at the position, but he is a really good coach and a hell of a recruiter. After watching the replay, there were several times our D Line would be in position to make a tackle and either just got beat or seemed to be timid. There were times we got decent push and forced the qb to scramble, but it definitely didnt look like the MSU D lines we are used to. (Dead horse beaten). I hope this new staff makes the necessary corrections. I also wish there was a way to get Baker back! In his bio on the Bama website it says he lead one of the nation's top Defensive Lines at MSU.

Brian Baker had Jeffery Simmons and Montez sweat on the field. Our current D line coach has a bunch of Redshirt freshman. It’s not X’s And O’s its Jimmy’s and Joe’s. Baker is a good coach but our problems on the d line have nothing to do with coaching.

I agree. Not being a smartass here, but did he recruit those guys to state? Or was it the guy before him

Baker is much more responsible for the drop off at DLine this year than Deke. We didn’t properly stack the DLine recruiting classes while he was here, and now we’re stuck with extremely young guys at DT. Things should balance out next year with all of the juco’s were bringing in.

He did not recruit Simmons. He was hired to replace David Turner who left after signing day in 2016. Anyone who signed in Feb 2016 or earlier was not recruited by him.

We went up against a very experienced and decent ULL Oline that played hard and

who had a good plan to spread us out and tempo our young guys and it wasn't always pretty. We should get better as the year progresses up front.

I don’t know exactlyhow long it’s been since Fletcher Cox was a Junior but since then(probably 8-10 years) we have had the best D-line man in the SEC...possibly country playing for us(Fletcher Cox, Chris Jones, Jeffery Simmons). They make average linebackers look really good and they can completely change the inside run game by themselves.
My point is, we do not have that now. Not 1 position on our d-line is a game changer and its gonna mean a lot more points than we are use to being put on the board against us.

True. I think we can out score opponents this year. We were very vanilla on both sides of the ball last week. Ive been waiting for our offense to have a few new wrinkles/plays every week since Moorhead has been our Head coach and every week I feel like I’m watching the same 5-6 plays on offense. I’m thinking with the addition of TS7 the playbook will open up a lot this year. We’ll see

Brian Baker was average at best as a recruiter. Deke is a better recruiter although he may not be as good as an actual DL coach.
