Very impressive home crowd. Loved students lining the lower level.
Fans are right on the court. I know this has been discussed before, I can’t recall the answer, but why are the student seats at the JMA so far off the baseline?

they used to be closer years ago, but they added those folding chair seats and push the student section back when they added new bleachers quite a few years ago.

Hard to imagine the RAC even more intimidating, but they really should do that. Off the top of my head, the following Big Ten schools have students ringing the court, at least on one end and one side OR both sides:

Illinois
Indiana
Maryland
Michigan
Michigan State
Nebraska
Northwestern
Ohio State
Penn State

I think Purdue and Wisconsin might only have them on one side, but they’re very close? Can’t remember. Iowa’s is easily the worst setup, students on one side and far away from the baseline.

As per the renderings of the RAC expansion plan, if you use some inferencing it appears that the plan is to do exactly that - like MSU, Michigan, OSU, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, pretty much every other Big Ten school - even Duke, etc - put the students directly behind the team benches, for TV optics and also for intimidation/loudness reasons

The grey benches to me are the “new” student section - the area behind the benches first few rows, and then about 2/3 of the space where they currently are today.

I think @AreYouNUTS can answer the "why" for this one. 🙂

So the ppl who have had tickets in row A B C for 25+ years are just getting bounced? I’m sure that’ll go over well

If you think grey = student that means the whole across from benches 100s is all student sections too. So I don’t think your correct here

No need to make any seating changes at the RAC. What the RU student body should take note of is the diversity of actions some other student sections use to try and distract the opposing foul shooter in the second half. Those inflatables are OK but I would like to see a little more creativity with arm waving and jumping up and down.

I’m a Row A season ticket holder… NO way they take them away for students. **** I hope I don’t have to wear a banana suit to hold onto them 😉
I can’t see them taking away the prime seats from long term season ticket holders and giving to students. Too much of a revenue loss. Having said that, the optics still looked cool from Breslin With the band of students.

When the Schott was built it was dead because all the money seats were courtside. tOSU reconfigured to put the kids around the court giving it a better atmosphere but it’s still not as good as the old gym (St. John’s Arena).

Need standing terraces like in the new soccer stadiums. No benches or seats and pack ‘em in.

The grey seats in the 100 level on the other side are individual bucket seats, likely cushion seats like today. The first 5 rows behind the team benches are flat bleacher benches, like in the current student section. Those will be students like every other Big Ten arena.

Is this confirmed? Like I said, thats not going to go over well with ppl who had those seats for over 20 years

This "rendering" is not from Rutgers as far as I know. This was just some fan that put that together. If I'm incorrect, please point us to the link where this is posted from Rutgers.

Exactly.

I noticed all the guy talks about is the Yankees and a little about the Jets. Not a lotta Rutgers references in his feed.

They did it to +30 year season ticket holders in 118 and didn’t blink an eye. Gave most loyal fans a couple of weeks to scramble. No advance notice. Not RU’s finest moment. #118 Remembers.

Yea but I mean with that they at least had $$$ coming in to at least argue why they did it, not give it to students

Weirdly I’d be less ticked if they gave it to the students. One of the reasons I became a life long season ticket holder was because I had season tix in the early 80’s right behind the RU bench. It was before coaches did huddles on the court. I was literally in the coaches huddle.

All our support during the lean 30 years of no tourneys in #118 meant nothing all in favor of Johnny Come Lately $. They were some games early on were we counted less than a dozen people in that new section. I know RU had to raise money but looked more like Hobbs wanted a front row seat. More importantly you took away from the home court advantage and footprint. That’s why petrified any new plans will ruin the RAC.

Furthermore, we now might have the best recruiting class in our history and you’re going to play games in Trenton and Newark. RU kicked out #118 in 18 days without any hesitancy, it is imperative that they figure out how to remodel the RAC without losing a season. Can’t imagine Jersey Mike would be happy with closure.

Remember:

1) 115, 114 and half of 113 were once student seats (season tix; $25 IIRC).

2) 110 use to be 100% students 100% of the time

….and for a handful of games we packed 301-307 with students as well.

Those bleachers could EASILY be moved back up closer to the baseline. It was a choice made to appease a non-basketball coach not nicknamed “Goody.”
Always wondered about that too. Lost a fair number of seats for no real apparent reason.

This is a riddle to me, unless you mean non-MENS basketball coach.

When they moved the bleachers back away from the baseline, wasn’t it about 15 years ago? Back then, nobody else played sports in the RAC except for MBB and WBB. So who could they have possibly been appeasing?

It was when they put the new bleacher section itself in. Maybe 10 to 15 years ago. Yes, it is a little bit of a “riddle,” but I bet you can figure it out!

All I know is that buying season tickets this year was one od the best decisions I've made. Whatever they do with JMA I'm sure it'll be great. I was also impressed with Breslin. I think it had alot to do with MSU catching fire and us struggling to shoot.
