At one time the Braves had the best 3 man rotation in baseball. Arguably in the history of baseball. Atlanta should have won more World Series than they did with that rotation.

i think you could make a legit argument for the best FOUR man rotation if you count steve avery for the couple years he was decent.. he couldn't hang in the long haul like smoltz, glavine and maddux. never knew what happened to that guy.

Seems like I remember him getting a big contract then crumbling under the pressure to be an ace on a staff.

He was 47-22 from 1991 until he hurt his arm in Sept. 1993 with an ERA of about 3.20. After the injury, he only went 44-50 the rest of his career and he never had an ERA below 4.00.

They also had Denny Neagle (before he went nuts) later in the 90's. I don't quite remember the years and don't feel like looking it up, and he even made an All-Star team or two while with the Braves. We'll never see a pitching staff like the Braves had in the 90's again, ever.

Need I point out the fact that typically first base is almost a dh spot in the NL but your Atlanta braves had Sid Bream at first. Look at the offense the Braves had during those years and you will see why they only had one world series. The only dangerous hitters they had was David Justice and Ron Gant. Terry Pendleton was decent.

They were built around pitching. Although, they had Klesko, McGriff and Larry Wayne, they never really had a powerful outfield. Justice was sent packing after his injury. As a Brave fan during the 80s and 90s, it was so frustrating to see them with the best record in baseball many seasons, yet fail to win the World Series.

71 Orioles - Mike Cuellar, Pat Dobson, Dave McNally and Jim Palmer

69 Mets - Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman ,Tug McGraw, Nolan Ryan

Best duo ever was Koufax and Drysdale.

They would've won at least 2 more, 1992 and 1996. Especially 1996. They were essentially one bad pitch to Jim Leyritz away from a 3-1 lead.

They did not get it done in October, but winning 14 straight division titles in this day is nothing short of amazing.

Who was on the hill the night the Braves won the pennant in 1991? Steve Avery. Really a bummer of a story that the arm injury in '93 pretty much ended his career. He's not even 40 years old. If not for that injury, he might still be around.
