Pitino was at odds with Knicks GM Al Bianchi.Pitino wasn't fired from Knicks. Brown resigned from Charlotte iirc and took a year off. Johnson was fired but had as much success as Stevens.
Maybe I don't get it so please explain to me why a coach wouldn't leave an NBA team where he is making $6-$7m a year to go to one of the 1-4 top all time programs who may close to double his salary?
You think Boston is going to keep him around more than a few more years without significant improvements?
As to why coaches wouldn't want to leave the NBA for a few million more? A few million more to people who already have millions isn't always a big deal. The NBA is a pretty sweet gig if you can get it and be successful enough to keep it. There's no....
* Recruiting, not only trying to evaluate players from a talent standpoint, but how they will fit in your system and if they'll thrive in a team concept. You're now also trying to figure out who may try to bolt for a pay for play league before they ever set foot on campus and there's no dealing with handlers or family/players who have a hand out. Oh yeah, no sitting in gyms half the year watching AAU tournaments.
* No schmoozing of boosters and especially no keeping an eye on jock sniffing boosters who want to be close to the program to an extent that you can land in hot water.
* No radio shows where you're fielding questions from Jim Bob in Virgie.
If I could remain gainfully employed in an NBA job, I'd never give a college job a second glance.
