Dude obviously belongs in college. His team blew a 24 point lead to the pelicans yesterday. He’s tried it out long enough now (only to come up short every year) that I’d be willing to bet he wouldn’t be opposed to coming back to the college game. Offer him the whole farm, I don’t think he’s as locked in and set in stone with the Celtics as much as people lead on.

Stad Brevens is an indiana guy. No way he will take a UNC or DUKe job. Those two schools are like inbreds....they keep it in the family.

Many good candidates out there, but we have one of the very best and cannot lose sight of that. Coach Cal has had a tough year, and made worse by returning only one player (which cannot be repeated!).

I want him to stay as our coach. All things considered, he is STILL the best current coach for us. But, he has to change the business model slightly. If it's truly a "players first" program, he has to do a better job convincing the ones on the bubble to be patient and stay with Kentucky until they are truly ready to become an adult. The NBA is a grown man's league. We have too many now on the growing list of kids whose careers were cut short or never had a chance to flourish because of their impatience. It is obvious that Cousins needed Cal's fatherly guidance more than any player--his immaturity is damaging his career and Cal should have been able to hold him back and teach him much more than just basketball. It is all about providing a sound and solid foundation for their chances at a long-term career, not one filled with problems and that is over after one year. Had Hagans stayed, we'd be a top five team and his chances at being in the NBA a long time would have been greatly enhanced.

Further, this business each year of not knowing who is coming or going makes the whole business model very, very weak.

Final thought for Monday...it was super satisfying to FINALLY see Kentucky Basketball again. That's what we expect. That's what we want. That's what gets us through a tough winter. That's what we live for. That is Kentucky Basketball!

I go to their board a lot (cant stand IU) after next season his buyout goes from 10m to 3m. He gone. IU has not won 3 straight big ten games in 700 days.
I just know what I hear from friends. They seem to have put away their torches and pitchforks, for the moment.

Celtics fan base is not enamored with the guy at all. He's currently towards the top end of longest tenured coaches. Knock on him is he beats bad teams and loses to good teams. This season they are now losing to bad teams.

He'll be a huge success in college when he comes back. Wish we had an opening for him.

majority of IU fans are apathetic and done with IU. Its harder to get a mcdouble than it is to get IU season tickets. You could call in the middle of January and get season tickets....and get to shoot two free throws in the second half.

Don't get me wrong. They would take Stevens in a heartbeat. ...as would most schools.

Nobody wants to hear this, but IU fans are like UK fans. They love, and want to keep their own. difference is, IU has been left grasping at straws for a number of years now. Cal can recruit coast to coast. Archie and IU can't.

UK setup a natl recruiting database thanks to Joe Hall. Rupp got most of his players from KY, Hall setup UK to recruit players from any state. Imagine if Rupp retired and Hall just got kentucky kids...because(thats what Rupp did)....thats IU.

Richie, this will tell you all you need to know about IU fans .... when Knight was FIRED, I saw a shocking amount of Texas Tech stuff around central Indy. For them, it was a coach, not a school. That's the difference between a school that had one coach, and a program that's done it with 5 coaches.

IU sucks because 25 years later they're still searching for the next Bobby Knight. They do the same **** because he did it.
Recruit mostly indiana kids
wear the candystripes
keep the same uniforms he installed (iu logo on shorts piping on shorts and jerseys)
its downright weird how they worship him, ive saw comments of grown men commenting how good looking knight was.....

the admins, alumni and fans think IU is an elite program and they're just one next Bobby Knight hire away from going back to their glory days. The sooner they realize they were a flash in the pan program the better. They need to just foucs on being a middle of the pack big ten team and making the tourney every few years.

I like Brad Stevens and all, but the guy has never actually won anything. He’s had some of the bests rosters in the NBA the last few years (particularly among the Eastern Conference) and he continually comes up short. I get he got Butler to the championship game twice, but they lost, twice! Are we sure he is THE guy for UK?

it does not help when you have one of the youngest teams in the NBA make a magical run to the ECF (thanks coach Brad Stevens) you run into Lebron mfing James. He should have 2 finals apperances if not for LBJ.

But they haven’t had to deal with James for 2 years now. Last year they lost to a really young Heat team.

1/4" to the left and he wins on the greatest shot in college basketball history. Does a 1/4" really make that much difference in the grand scheme of things?

Front office blunders. Signing Kemba to a max contract set them back a decade.
The deal was bad, but Kemba is a hell of a player.

I mean it would have been great, but they still lost twice, and add that to the fact he really hasn’t been successful in the NBA, particularly in big games. Are we sure he is the right guy for UK? That is all I am asking. Donovan, Wright and Bennett would be better for UK, in my opinion at least. They are just more proven at this point.

Isn’t getting Butler to the title game twice an achievement in itself? The last time a non power conference team won a title was 1990 UNLV. And as someone else noted, if Hayward’s half court shot goes in is Stevens magically a better coach?

Last season was disappointment in Boston for sure, but it’s pretty much a given that the team with the best player is usually gonna advance in the playoffs. In all the series losses it’s hard to argue has had the best player in any of them, even last season. And that’s not even taking into account that some of the rosters were ill fitting.

All that to say that even though Stevens hasn’t won the big one yet, it doesn’t mean that he shouldn’t be considered if there is a vacant at UK.

Was. Sub 15 PER this season with career low assists per game and his lowest scoring output since his rookie year. Dude wasn't a spring chicken when he got out of college, and that was ten years ago. Definitely on the downside of his career.

It’s really good, but he still lost the big game. We have a coach now who has played in 2 and won one of them. Is that really a good trade off?

Tatum is one of the best players in the league. Aside from KD, he may be the best player in the Eastern Conference.

I just think we have better options available before considering Stevens. It’s also odd to excuse Stevens for having poor seasons but being open to hiring him, then to say Cal should be fired for a bad season. Not saying you specifically said this, just many on the board have.

Ohh, he is definitely aging, but he is still damn good.

The entire team is dogshit this year. They are currently 6th in the east! But some of that comes down to coaching.

I used to go to the duke board to check out their “recruiting intel” (as they like to call it LOL). Simply because they’re usually the program we’re in competition with for recruits most of the time.

Ever since they did the Rivals “upgrade”, I can’t even view their board. IIRC, I never could get on KU’s or the cheats board prior to said upgrade. Haven’t tried it in a long time. I was always able to get on duke’s prior to that, though.

Anyway, any idea as to why that is? Am I doing something wrong? Maybe trying to view the wrong board. No really that big of a deal. Was just curious as to why that is.

Maybe I’m banned on certain boards? Would be odd. I’ve never posted anywhere but here or the main board a few times.

I don’t disagree about Brown and Tatum, I am just saying the Celtics in general suck. Every team in the league has great players, most of the teams still suck though. Which just raises even more flags about Stevens. He has 2 of the best players but yet they still suck. The Knicks are about to pass them for 6th place. I’ll repeat, the Knicks are about to pass them.
