Could we have paid an equally unqualified coach and gave him 22 million to make it as a 7 seed in the ncaa? I never coached in my life but also think i could draw up something better than the...throw it in the outstreched hand of your teammate out of bounds play. 1/70th the price for such smart coaching...just sayin! 1 game and 1 year and this nightmare will be over....

are they not? i mean just because they are paid handsomely doesnt meant they are smart at all......i make alot at my job and could be replaced by a machine basically.....would a machine say 22 minutes is enough and oweh looks fatigued...better to put in jasper who hasnt gotten the ball up the courch successfully in 6 games.....i think a logical person could coach this team as well as pope....and again be paid much less to do so is all

People need to realize that despite Cal’s waning performances, Mitch Barnhart and the boosters sabotaged the last few years for him, keeping the NIL wallet strings pulled shut. And then these jackasses give $22 million to the dope just to end up 9th in the SEC! What a joke. They have egg in their faces right now. What are they doing to fix the mess they helped put us in?

This just shows you don’t study coaching. Not intending to be disrespectful but even the worst performing guys at this level of coaching are not dummies.
Yea when I say Mark isn’t any good, I mean at a level far above a regular joe. I’m comparing him to great coaches which is what Kentucky hires. Compared to his peers he’s terrible. Compared to Radom guy who manages IHOP obviously….

Mark also climbed into coaching late and moved way up fast. He’s no idiot. I will say, however, a lot of his rise did have to do with knowing people like Mark Fox, and being Mormon. They don’t have a lot of coaches to pick from and he was decent at Utah Valley, basically a Mormon school, and BYU was Mormon in a smaller conference so he moved up. I don’t think BYU today would come close to offering pope, unless there was not another Mormon coach and they just did it. Pope being Mormon is the main reason he’s here, without being Mormon I don’t think he could have risen like that. Without playing at UK he wouldn’t be here either.

So yes Mark isn’t an idiot he’s good compared to average people or low level coaches sure. But mark is also at the same time the luckiest guy ever associated with Kentucky basketball. Really wasn’t good enough to be on that 96 team, could be replaced with a lot of players, and coaching here was a very lucky situation and he wasn’t qualified. Being Mormon and a really bad AD really helped him out a lot.

The issue is, Calipari was basically throwing games here later. Calipari didn’t lose to Peacocks and Oakland. He also doesn’t recruit guys like wheeler. It was a battle between pay me or you get what you get. Calipari threw the Memphis Missouri 08 game too, just before coming here to send a message to Memphis on the way out. He’s like that. Nobody in Memphis believes he didn’t throw it.

There’s probably plenty of Mormons still coach D2, D3 and high school and would love to reach Pope’s level. Even the “Cal cant coach” stuff is honestly ridiculous. Very valid to be frustrated with Pope but people talking like he’s incapable of walking and talking simultaneously are really taking liberties.

I don’t know, are there a lot of Mormon coaches at the Utah valley level that are in Utah, known in the state, played at premier schools like UK and in the NBA? I honestly don’t know how many Mormon coaches they have to pick from. I’d imagine that’s not a big list of guys but I really don’t know.

I think Mark is very fortunate to have a record like that and be Mormon. Just seems to have really helped him. I mean his record didn’t do it. He doesn’t have one.

Damn, no wonder Cal zoned it in. $2,000 per year does not go far in Lexington. Maybe we need to start a food drive for Pope?

If Pope were winning big at Kentucky, him being a Mormon, would never be brought up. People wouldn't give a f..k if he were an atheist as long as he were winning.

Man my grandparents lived in the heart of Memphis and are Memphis alumni. They hate Cal. He always told me Cal would do Kentucky the same way on his way out and sure enough.

We know it’s coming so when do you think he gets Arkansas the same way?

People just took the 22 million as fact & ran with it, although many on this board don't like Matt Jones, I'd take his word over most because he is well connected to UK. He says it wasn't even close to 22 million, just off the top of my head I'm thinking Jeff Goodman started the 22 million thing. Look, I'm as disappointed as any Kentucky fan right now, however, year 1, we won more top 25 games than any other team & who knows what might of happened if Butler & Robinson didn't get hurt? Year 2, last year had shooting but no physicality or defense so he builds a more defensive team & not as good shooting, then we lose our PG, injuries have happened & have hindered this team, yes, Pope isn't perfect but we know he's getting year 3, so, maybe he gets year 3 right with the right amount of shooting & defense this time? I'm a lifelong Kentucky fan & damn sure not rooting for them to lose, plus the tournament is starting in a few days so let's see what happens.

You really think he threw that title game against Kansas? Not me, I've seen his lack of strategy coaching be an issue too many times burn his ***, he was just too ******* stupid to foul in that situation so Mario Chalmers rose up & hit that dagger 3. Memphis people were just butt hurt that he left for Kentucky so they said he threw the game, they wanna believe they're as relevant as Kentucky. Look at the Wisconsin game, KAT was scoring at will yet he kept letting the twins clank 3's, a coach with half a brain tells them to keep feeding KAT & when they don't, he calls timeout & puts Ulis & Booker in. I could go on, it was sooooooo time for Cal to go, I wanted Billy Donovan rather than Pope & "rumors" if true suggest that Brainfart didn't wanna wait 4 days to talk to him.

Mr. earned not given. 😂
No matter how many years this will never get old.

You have to wonder what his dad said after seeing that. No way it would have gotten done if Cal was asked about it before Brad grabbed a $50 bill and pimp walked out the door to the tat shop.
