I heard a former high school school football coach nake this statement the other night." You mean to say, it's the first week in November , high school football season, and the top 16 teams for each classification are not playing?" It does not make much sense to me either. The RPI is as good as the NCHSAA can up with to justify split conferences and unequal match ups. don't like it being the sole reason for seeding. There should be consideration for Conference Champions at least!
With 8 classifications there's no reason for 6 rounds in the playoffs.

I would say conference champs should get an auto bid, but with the amount of teams that are in the playoffs, if you win your conference, you'll be in.
The issue with seeding conference champs a special way, is that just about every conference is a split, and some of them span across three classifications. So how would you determine conference champs for seeding? Before it was top three conference finish OR .500+ win percentage. Now with conferences spanning three classifications, lets say there are 6 teams in the conference. Two of them are 3A, two are 4A, & 2 are 5A. The 3A team finishes 4th in conference and has a 4-6 record. Do you seed them with conference champs? Is it fair not to, when they play in a conference that has over 50% of the teams in higher classifications?

I think the NCHSAA messed a lot up when they went to 8 classifications.

I agree with all the above, 8 Classifications - Not Good, Playoff Week 1 BYE's - Not Good!

I understand at 2 classifications but 3 is just dumb. No easy solutions although- I’d like to think outside the box and have conferences for football seperate from everything else and try to keep all the same classifications together.

I’m not sure conference championship consideration would change anything would it? Reidsville is a conf champ, West Craven is, East Duplin is. That’s 1,2,3. I don’t like RPI but it seems to apply to everyone the same I guess. You need to to look at how you schedule games. Out of conference games are really important. Playing teams that end up losing really hold you back. I mean what could West Craven do differently to have the 1 seed? Maybe we should ask @GrizzlyDevil I know the Rams have 2 losses to our 1. Rams got shutout in one game. So what do you do differently? We were just a few mistakes from going undefeated. And I’m not ragging on the Reidsville folk at all. Just a serious question on how you would approach this in the RPI world. I’m curious to what the responses will be.

At the end of the day you want to beat successful teams. The easiest way is to play down and beat good teams 1 or 2 classes below you. Or play decent teams that are in a bad conference and will do well.

Assuming he stays? Crest seems to have the Hot hand in Cleveland County right now. Especially the next 2 or 3 years
Crest loses a ton of seniors this year. JV was pretty dang good. Burns and KM have a hell of a pipeline coming for the next 5 years at least. The relationship between the middle and high school at Burns is pretty solid with the players right now too. Looking forward to it as a fan.

Yeah I agree with you. Sometimes Middle School doesn’t translate over to HS or necessary means they will be good. Sometimes….
For Example. Lincolnton’s middle school hasn’t won more than 3 games in a season since Cordell Littlejohns group in 2012. Which won 4 games.
All the groups at the HS level currently never won more than 3 games. The senior class scored 1 TD in middle school…… went 0-6. They won Conference Back-To-Back years

I see your point for sure. In CC it typically translates well. Historically when a middle school team is dominant, we know fun times are ahead. All we can do is hope that tradition continues.

I do see burns beating Shelby the next 2 or 3 years. Unless Shelby finds a QB. JV team had 5 Juniors on the JV team & wasn’t really good team tbh. I don’t know if that’s normal. But it’s new to me. However, If Shelby finds a QB that can sling it like Farmer. Who knows. But as of right now. They don’t have it in the hallways. Unless Farmer Reclassifies

I see what you mean. I guess that explains Otis's query about WC having one loss and Reidsville's two losses. WC lost to a team that wound up at 5-5, whereas Reidsville's two losses was to two teams with a combined 17-3 record. Also when WC was making their schedule they would have had no idea that seven teams would wind up at 5-5. I guess Reidsville was fortunate this year to win against teams
that had, overall, pretty good records. I imagine whatever the seeding we will likely finish this with the scoreboard putting RPI on the back burner until next year at this time. Could be some tweaking in the off season.

Yea who would have thought Havelock would lose 4 straight. New Bern had a down year. Then we have conference games we have no control over. So scheduling good out of conference games like you mentioned is really key. I don’t want to wish Reidsville to lose even though it would help us to play the eastern final at home. There is a huge part of me that would love to see my high school go to Reidsville and give em hell. A lot of tradition there. I’m not upset with a 2 seed. I don’t mean to sound that way. It’s been a great season. My only complaint is how fast it has come and gone.

I was at the game. I saw exactly what happen. He didn’t even make it to the back of the endzone before he started going down. Besides #21 being out? Is Shelby healthy going into the playoffs? I heard a crazy rumor about a starter or 2 getting caught with Vapes as well.

He is,.....these things are happening at all the schools, it the culture now.
I said today kids need to have to sign a waiver so coaches can do what they need to do to discipline the kids without parents or school or law interference...

Lincolnton don’t have anything in the back of the endzone. He literally started going down in the yellow of the endzone before he fell. But he is a kid so I get it lol

Maybe he thought he did..., like I said we had him on ground after injury on side line and I swear that what I thought he said he was in tears and pain though
#21 built like a Tank. I’m surprised he didn’t play any LB in that Game against Lincolnton or in General. No way you can tell me that kid can’t tackle someone on defense. He is bigger & stronger than the 2 inside LB y’all put on the field. Everyone I was around was like “Why Don’t #21 play LB or Something”. I thought the kid was a great player just being honest.

He been battling with a knee problem since jamboree, with knee cap problem...it’s possible it gave out.
Damn. I hate that. But if Lincolnton VS Shelby happens in the regional finals. I hope Farmer gets caught with a Vape Friday morning 🤣

I was standing in the endzone. Was a no contact injury. I immediately knew it was a knee ligament. He did not fall on anything other than the field though....not sure where you got that.
Grizzly is right I was less than 10 yards from the RB when it happened as soon as he slowed down half way in the end zone his leg just buckled and you just knew immediately his season was over

EVery 2 or 3 seaons they have starters that feel invincible and do something real dumb and affects the whole team. Never fails. When these guys learn their lesson and they graduate, there will be freshman coming in who dont remember and learn from others, and will do something stupid. Never fails.

Yeah kids used to chew tobacco back in the day! More often! Vapes have taken over the schools nowadays! You could hide dip a lil better than blowing smoke from smoking a stupid Vape. I bet willbanks was mad as hell

I cant see getting kicked off the team for a vape unless it was something more than tobacco 🤷‍♂️
Man on school grounds in Lincoln county that’s 5 day OSS. 2nd time is 10 Days OSS. I’m not sure about Cleveland county or other counties. I’m sure it’s similar. But I also heard it was before a game too. Like on the way to the game. I could be wrong. But that’s what I heard.

Can recall when smoking was permissible for high school students as long as they were outside the building. Don’t remember anything even being said about chewing tobacco. The coaches didn’t allow athletes to smoke but if they were caught, any punishment was determined by the coach.
‘Sometimes, comparing today’s standards with those half a century ago, are almost unrecognizable. Thinking back, it’s incredible how much influence the tobacco industry had back then.

I think there was a study that said vaping is just as bad as smoking. Vaping doesn't hurt anybody of course but over time it can affect your health as you get older. I think for athletes and performance it's counter productive. It's unfortunate some kids dont think about their future health and only think for the moment. Then again alot of us did, and some of us learned early while others learned the hard way, but at least they learned.
