I read an OWH article a few years ago that said Harrison, NE was closer to the Canadian border than it was to Omaha and that Omaha was closer to Chicago than it was to Harrison

Call me crazy, but your qualification for the state tournament shouldn’t depend on beating an opponent for the 4th or 5th time. That is ridiculous.

Beating teams throughout the year literally earns you nothing, because there is no such thing as a wild card anymore in any class below A. Essentially the regular season is 100% meaningless.

Agree and disagree at the same time regarding your regular season statement.
If you have a great regular season (18+ wins) most of the time you won’t be totally eliminated from state contention if you lose in subs. You’ll likely get back in on wild card points.
That being said, there were a few horrible subs that took away a spot from good teams getting wild cards. I like the idea of setting subs towards the end of the season as stated in a different post. Not a total serpentine, but try to even them out without making teams travel too far.

It looks like Ansley would be the only team with a gripe about getting pushed out this year. The others that were 1st out didn’t have what I’d call “great” seasons.

why not just have class C and then D and do a full tourney 64 team tourney, with first round regional and then seed 1 to 32 with the final 8 at Lincoln, Cant complain if your not in the top 64 and dont get in

I was not advocating for more teams to get in. The only point I was trying to make is that wildcard points do matter.

There is a chance of this happening with any type of format that includes wildcards and reseeding. I know Ogallala and Chase County played each other in the sub finals and district finals back to back a couple of years ago in volleyball

I guess I’d have a hard time dealing with a coach who goes into games “knowing I can’t beat them”. Not exactly the mindset I’d want for someone who was leading my kids.
