I don’t get why many fans seem discontented with KF, but we’re apparently pleased as punch with Fry.

Fry got very fortunate to go to 2 of his 3 Rose Bowls. KF neither had the benefit of playing in the old Big Ten(Big 2, Little 8) nor the benefit of a tiebreaker rule that rewarded the team that hadn’t been to the Rose Bowl for the longest. Fry likely only goes to 1 Rose Bowl in 20 years under the rules KF had.

To me, they are very even coaching wise. Very different styles, but very similar results.

The 2 big differences:

1). Fry turned around a long standing losing program, and thus got the benefit of the doubt for pretty much the duration of his career. Once KF built the Iowa program back up, it wasn’t just good enough to replicate Fry’s success, some fans expected him to improve upon it.

2). Fry coached in the non-internet days. So he didn’t have to deal with near the heat, criticism that KF has to deal with.

You’re talking about potentially 2 HOF coaches that had the equivalent of Big Championship seasons 4 times in 47 years.

Now enter whoever the next coach will be. There is 47 years of data suggesting what the probable level of success will be.

Except, he won’t be coaching in the old Big Ten and he won’t be coaching in the KF era of the Big Ten. He will be coaching in the new Big. So, if anyone thinks it is likely that he will outperform Fry and KF, well we better hit a home run hire to even have a chance of that occurring.
So just be happy with 7-9 wins every year except for the one time every 15 years we maybe eek out something better.

Fans should sign up for that with no effort for anything better, every single time...........😃😃😃😃😃

Great call! 😃

We can/should strive for something better.

We can/should strive to win every game. Pretty sure that is already the goal each year now.

The results of the past 47 years with 2 HOF coaches are facts.

That the road just got tougher with the addition of some of the West Coast teams is a fact.

To achieve better success than Fry/Ferentz were able to, in a now tougher league, with all other factors remaining constant, will require a home run hire.

Beth will have to do a great job and it will probably take a little luck. I hope that’s what we get.

But, everybody wants that, who besides Indiana currently has that? Which current Big coaches would win better than 7-9 wins a year at Iowa?

Moore- No
Rhule-No
Fleck-No
Fickell- No
Bielema-probably similar results
Day-maybe
Smith-No
Schiano-No
Franklin/Smith-No
Riley-No
Fisch- No
Lanning-maybe

I hope we find the next Cignetti, but more often than not, others have failed to.

In 27 years under KF we've played in 3 CFP/NY6 level bowl games, and won 1 of them.

That's 1 CFP/NY6 bowl win in 27 years.

Yeah, I think Iowa football could be a lot more than that.
It's not about winning big, just ask all the Hawkeye Homers around here.

It's about "Hey, just be happy we're not Nebraska." These same folks think eeking out a victory vs zero-win MSU was a "good win." It's pretty pathetic we've convinced ourselves that little 'ol Iowa can't do better.

One positive if we play Vanderbilt.

We'll get to see her?

One could argue that a lot of coaches could build a .600 program if they was no chance of being fired.

Whoever it is, just please have them be ranked. Preferably ranked high enough where they would still be ranked if Iowa wins. I'm ready for that streak to end.

So, after today's turkey feast in Lincoln, I guess that it is on to Tampa on New Year's Eve?

Against whom, though? the possible opponents as I perceive it have more choices than a Chinese restaurant.
