Conference tie ins this year are Fenway, Military & Hawaii plus 4 from the following:

Cure, Myrtle Beach, Boca Raton, First Responder, Birmingham, Frisco, Gasparilla.

ECU had already accepted the Military slot. The conference will likely be one team short of being able to fill all obligations.

I think you are correct if Cincy gets into playoff. We have 7 bowl eligible teams - Cincy, UH, Tulsa, ECU, UCF, SMU and UM.

I haven’t asked around but I’ll be surprised if it’s anything other than Frisco. Unless UFC sponsors the Octagon Bowl.

I expect the Cincy/Houston winner to get the NY6 slot at the very least, leaving one of our bowl slots unfilled.
I think you are right with UTSA losing today and SDSU unlikely to have as good of conference championship game win.

It will heavily depend on the conference championship. If Cincy wins, I would expect Houston and SMU to take the 2 Texas bowls. If Houston wins, we might get one of those.

There is also a lot of horse trading that goes on, so we might end up somewhere weird like what happened with the Independence Bowl in 2015.

I wonder if we will have any opt outs. Chris Paul (if even healthy), maybe Josh Johnson?

The Houston/Cincy loser and UCF probably get Fenway and Birmingham. With ECU in the military that leaves us, SMU and Memphis. SMU and Memphis are more popular selections than us due to name recognition and attendance so I would put Memphis in the one with the higher payout and SMU in Texas. We will be in one of the others, cure, Boca, Myrtle Beach or Hawaii. None would surprise me.

After more research my predictions are Memphis to Hawaii, SMU to Frisco and us to Cure.

I count 83 bowl eligible teams and 82 slots if my bowl list is correct...

Remember in the end, since ESPM owns like half of the conference they are a deciding factor on what team goes to what bowl from the American for competition reasons.

Since attendance no longer matters for bowls and everything is geared toward ESPN, it doesn’t matter where we go if we go.

Perhaps they can place virtual fans in the stands. They have the tech to do that. We could probably get a few fans to Frisco.

One team with 6 wins will be left out this year.
  • Memphis
  • Old Dominion
  • Middle Tennessee State
  • North Texas
  • Miami (OH)
  • Ball State
  • Wyoming
  • Tulsa
My guess is Miami or Ball State; since the MAC has more teams eligible, eight, than they have bowl tie ins.

It still could be Tulsa.

Jerry Palm’s prediction on CBS Sports is Hawaii vs. Wyoming. I would rather not play Wyoming when we are opening next season against them.

I would rather play them than a MAC team and there are a couple of SBC teams we probably don’t want to play.

we played 3 teams that are in contention for the final 4. 4 if they would consider Houston.

is there another team that can match that?

One of them used to be in contention. Ohio St ain't no contender after that loss to Michigan.(Double negative tribute for rival cane.)
