At this point, if you told me we were heading to Tampa to play Tennessee on New Year's Day, I'd take it - prestigious game on 1/1 against a very tough but beatable team. At least f'ing Peyton isn't there anymore, and I'm sure Fitz would insist every member of the team load up on Vitamin C.

Uhh, wasn't that the Citrus in Orlando where the vitamin starved Cats played Peyton? OK, I see what you did - a redo of a bowl game against Tennessee in a different locale.

Would hope this time though we don't have any players staying home because of "second hand smoke."

If it is going to be the Outback I would prefer LSU. We played and beat Miss. State in Jacksonville to break our bowl game losing streak 3 years ago. Although I am not crazy about cow bells the MS fans were gracious losers. At a bar after the game they kept buying shots for me and a friend until we got wasted. They even let us ring their cow bells.

Really didn't notice the cow bell ringing during the game but still it's a dumb and probably illegal thing. What needs to be done, if NU plays Tennessee is to find a way to stop their band from playing Rocky Top, over and over and over again. Guess the best way would be to shut them out.

Love that we are in the conversation for these bowls, and while I never would back down from any opponent, I have to admit that the possibility of Oregon scares me a little bit. After a rough start to the season, they are a lot closer to the Oregon of the past several years than the very mediocre team they played like earlier this year. They are clicking now. Could be a fun game though because it would be interesting to see how our defense, which I have a ton of confidence in, would do against them.

I agree there's a certain been there/done that aura to playing Mississippi State again, especially since that was our last bowl game...I suspect the bowl committees and MSU would agree, but if you look at the semantics, I think there's actually little chance we see MSU in Tampa...

If you look at the "rules" for the Outback Bowl, they get the "third" overall pick out of the SEC after the CFP/Sugar Bowl and Citrus (but really the fourth pick if you assume two SEC teams are going to Big Six games). If you assume Bama and Florida are locks for Big Six games, then the next up will be the winner of the Egg Bowl this weekend. The winner will (at worst) go to the Citrus Bowl and at best get pulled into the Big Six, while the loser will fall to 8-4. Other SEC teams currently at 8-3: Georgia (playing Ga Tech this weekend) and Texas A&M (playing LSU this weekend). Looming large at 7-4 is Tennessee, playing Vandy, and LSU at 7-3, playing Texas A&M (they had a cupcake game cancelled earlier in the season, so they are a de facto 8-3). So with the next pick, Outback could take UGA or TAMU who at worst will also both be 8-4, or Tennessee who could be 8-4 coming off a win. And even if one of these teams gets pulled up to Citrus, Outback would have at least two other options over going with a Northwestern/Miss St rematch. The only way I think we see MSU again is if their fans actually want a redemption game and pledge to show up in droves/Outback gets lobbied.

Sounds like the consensus is that the B1G gets three "New Year's Six" bowl games, which bumps us up to the Outback. If that doesn't happen, like for example if Michigan loses to Ohio State and "falls" to the Outback, then seems we'd end up in San Diego, who would be my preference.
