Let's create some other talking points. Since the start of the 4 team playoff system, has there been a year where one can say the team crowned was less deserving than a team that didn't make the final 4?

I say no, there hasn't been and I don't support increasing the amount of teams to 8. Maybe 6, have 4 teams play week after the conference championship games with top 2 teams getting a bye. But that is as far as I will go.

The current ‘plus 1’ approach works great because it nicely weeds out the best teams. Sure, #5 will be pissed, but there is a reason they are there and not #1 or 2. They have a loss that got them there. Plus an 8 game system introduces 2-loss teams and that’s a killer for me.

First step should be to eliminate a number of bowls.

Let's have another talking point. Since the playoff, has a team made the final four that didn't deserve to be there?
Yes, in 2016-2017, Ohio State didn't even win their conference, had two losses, got their *** kicked 31-0 in the semifinal. One could argue Washington didn't deserve to be there as well. One could also argue Michigan State didn't belong in the playoff in 2015-2016 with two losses, losing 38-0 to Alabama while Ohio State was left out with only one loss and Oklahoma and TCU both had two losses and probably better teams than Michigan State.

So if we go to more teams, do you think we are more likely to reward deserving teams or put in teams that are less deserving but have intangibles that always keeps them at the top of discussions? I would say it is the latter.

That and reinforcement of the old "N.C. State Rule" , an overall winning record with no more than one of the wins coming against what used to be referred to as I-AA.

Virginia Tech and N.C. State used to load their schedules with teams like that in the 80's. It didn't help Tech much, but State had a conference to lobby for it.

I remember Tech going 10-1 in '87 and being thrilled to death to go to the Weedeater Bowl in Shreveport.

We're likely to have less deserving, but you will include all deserving. 5 P5 Conference champs and 3 invites. P5 champs get higher seeds than invites. Let them go from there.

So for example, if Pitt had beaten Clemson and Northwestern had beaten OSU, the 8 would have included those teams, a two loss Washington team, and Clemson would have been in. Assuming ND is selected one spot left. Who gets it? Two best teams in my eye would have been UGA and OSU. Somebody still gets screwed while Pitt and NW is undeserving in my view.

Point is there is no perfect system.

If you're not a P5 champ, you aren't without a big blemish. You can argue your case, but you don't have a fulfledged right to the championship.

Cool isn’t allowed to win. He picked Cuse for 40.

I also picked Utah for 40 last year.....you feel free to keep picking Dana Holgorsen teams playing a scrub QB in future pools.

Thanks, I only won because I picked against Cool the last two games, and they were upsets. Not much of a win.

Only thing you could do.......and you take the gold because of it. Not that it matters, but I was far more surprised how badly UGA took the gas against Texas rather than the results last night.
