Means nothing but this is the first time we've seen something like this in a long time.
CBS Sports' Jerry Palm released his bowl projections after this weekend and this one caught my eye.

Dec. 30 Duke's Mayo Bowl (Charlotte) North Carolina vs. Rutgers

If we can win two of the last three I think it's possible.

No minimum number of wins required for bowl invitations this year. Conceivably we could find ourselves in a bowl with one more win. Especially if it is PSU. The way the bowls will look at this is what the record might have been in a full season. Arguably in a full season we would be 5-4 with three OOC wins. One more would have been 6 wins which would have made us bowl eligible in a normal season.

If we win a total of 4 games there exists that possibility. I just have one focus as the team should... the next game against PSU. It is crazy to think we could be 4-2 at this point. Proud of these guys and how they fight together as one.
Yeah but could also be 0-6

Thats why we need to win 2 of3.
Other sites have MD going to this bowl.
You can't think like it's a normal year. Wins are not the deciding factor this year. It helps, but appealing to football fans will play a bigger role. People can't attend games, so interesting teams will catch the eye of fans much quicker. There is a bigger buzz around Rutgers than Maryland.

I am not doing research on this but expect we bring more TV viewers than Maryland, too. That could matter this year. If only we had picked up the Michigan win, we could really be locking in a bid with a win over the NitWits.

CUBuffs,
We still have people who just don’t get it. We are in THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE, we are one of the top 50 universities in the world, we are one of the two richest states in the country, have over 400,000 living alumni, massive facility improvements, have every single football and almost every single basketball game on national TV, and applications to the school have gone through the roof the last 15 years. Not to mention Pike and Schiano. There are still people who think we are in a conference with minor Northeast schools.

I put my name on the mailing list for Ticket Interest for this Bowl.
They ask specifically what is your College Team.’
We should do this.

I know this we are going to no bowl with only wins over MSU and Purdue. Beat PSU and then we can start the discussion ... as I agree, in a normal year with 3 OOC wins we’d have 6 at that point

Coach Schiano deserves coach of the year if we find a way to beat Penn State and Maryland in addition to crossover game to finish 5-4 and end up in a bowl game.

That's it. It's FINAL!!! 🤣
Wins or style points or fans in seats are not part of the criteria when it comes to selecting bowl teams this year. A lot of the G5 schools are going to get screwed. Folks are not going to tune in to watch them. They rather watch a power 5 teams and the includes Rutgers.

One last time, schools DO NOT have to be .500 to go to a bowl game this season.
But given how many bowls are going to fold, the few that happen will have the teams with the better records...

expect a whole bunch to cancel quite soon...

I got that. One question I have is this. Are bowls still locked into their conference tie ins?
Can a bowl which does not have a tie in to the B1G 10, but to a G5 conference invite a B1G 10 team? I really don't care where or who we play. This team is fun and exciting to watch and I just want a 10th game.
Also looking at the list participants for some lesser bowls come from a pool? Can someone explain that please?

This would be my luck, I have lived 10 miles from BOA stadium these past 10 years always hoping that RU would get a bowl game here. This would not be a good year for them to go to Charlotte. Currently only 7% of the seats can be used at BOA which is about 5,400 fans. Hopefully they can come bowling here next season when this virus is hopefully gone.

This will help to explain some of the craziness.

As long as a school meets Academic Progress Rate requirements, it could technically be invited to play in a bowl game even if it is winless. There are currently 39 bowl games in place for this season, so only 78 of the 127 FBS teams playing will fill those slots.

Penn State is the game I want the most...and it appears at least 5-6 bowls have canceled their games, thus shrinking the inventory...Pinstripe was just the latest...

Thanks for the link. It explains a lot. But like I asked are bowls still committed to their tie ins?

For example: the New Orleans Bowl says that the teams are from C-USA and the Sun Belt and both conference champs are in other bowls already. Let's say all the B1G 10 and SEC bowl tie ins are filled could they for example invite Tennessee and Rutgers for a better TV audience? And again what is this POOL I see in a lot of these bowls? Is that only for G5 schools?

I can't say for sure, but outside of the tie-ins to conference champs, I think lower bowl games will reach out for more power conference teams to fill out the lineup. Without people in the stands, TV viewership takes on more meaning. I don't see a .500 Sun Belt team getting a bid over a power team that can attract more attention to an otherwise forgettable bowl game. A lot of these bowls have to reduce potential lost revenue as much as possible. This year, normal bowl requirements are out the window. It's like your spouse giving you a "hall pass" to go out and get with another person one time.

Any suggestions on how such a "hall pass" is obtained? Asking for a friend.

We’d be 5-4 (2-4) right now in a normal season. That’s only one more win we’d need for Bowl eligibility and hopefully something the Bowl committees consider when make their selections.

Bowl committees? Rutgers will make a bowl based on their Big Ten Standings period. Their aren't any Bowl committees selecting at large teams anymore.

Remember the old days, when they'd say "There are scouts from the Orange, Gator and XXX Bowls here to see Team Y play." It's amazing how different it is; they were actually trying to find a) entertaining teams and b) intriguing matchups.

So different now. Not necessarily better or worse...
