Good List

My Favorite Under or Around 40:
Weller 12 year
Weller Antique
Willet Pot Still
Henry McKenna 10
Eagle Rare
Larceny

Will always have a bottle of Blanton's and Willet Pot Still on my bar.

Bottles I will hardly ever pass up if they are actually on a shelf:
Any of the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection
Willet Single Barrel Rye or Bourbon (Family Estate)
Weller 12
Parkers Heritage - about any variety

Stranahans is also great if you havent tried it.

If I feel like getting sh*thoused on some good brown water:
Angels Envy Rye
Stagg Jr (approx 132 proof)

Best thing I've had lately:
Green Spot Irish Whiskey - obviously not Bourbon, but if you see this, get it. They call it "Irish Pappy" and its so good that I hate to drink it because I'm scared I won't find another bottle.

If you can find Old Forester's Birthday Bourbon

that comes out in September, get it. It's as good as the top-shelf ones like Blanton's (back before it got well-known you could find it for $35 a bottle, at least in Kentucky).
Other faves of mine are Ridgemont Reserve, Jefferson's and Eagle Rare. Or whatever I didn't have to buy.
The best general-purpose cheap bourbon for a pitcher of cocktails, holiday cooking, and general antiseptic properties is Old Crow black label.
And if you really want to nerd it up and compare mash bills to figure out what you might like (basically corn/rye/wheat %) from here: http://bourbonr.com/blog/buffalo-trace-distillery-bourbon-mash-bills/

Great thread that made me thirsty. Cheers gents

But an ice cube in Blanton's? So unnecessary.

Friend of mine brought me back a Single Pot Still sampler from Ireland that had bottles of Green Spot, Redbreast 12-Year, Powers, and Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy. I've only had the Redbreast and the Midleton so far. Both were solid. I especially liked the Midleton. Great finish.

Green Spot sounds like an interesting blend. Looking forward to trying it.

I rarely drink bourbon neat. The big bourbon ice cube keeps it from getting watered down. That's my sweet spot. About the only time you can guarantee me drinking neat bourbon is at baptist wedding receptions via the flask.

I have Makers, Weller, Buffalo Trace, and Charter in my bar. My mainstay for keeping it cheap is Charter over ice with maybe a splash of water. I never use soft drinks for a mixer or chaser. And I'm proud some of y'all posted JW Dant and Ezra. I would never admit that unless y'all did first. But I can drink the rot gut with the best of you. I have developed quite a taste for the bourbons and scotch. I've never met a straight bourbon I didn't like. But I'm not a fan of the sour mash.

If you're doing ice, the big cube's definitely the way to go. It's just a matter of whether you like your bourbon chilled or room temp. I like it room temp. I think we can agree it sucks though once it gets all watered down, and mixing fine bourbon is amateur hour. Cheers.
