Should have beaten that pedestrian MSU team by 15-20 pts easily with all the returning talent

I predicted this after the moderator railed us after Duquesne.

We will know after Tuesday night I said about Wheeler and Toppin. They are pursuing greatness in PRACTICE

Make your damn FTs. You are an elite 5 star top 10 recruit (guard) and he chocked not once but twice.
Get in the damn gym and shoot 100 a day until you make 95 of them.
They are “Free” throws.

If Wallace makes his FTs we win.
Cant choke at the line.
You guys want Cal to shoot the FTs too?
Dude, just take the night off man. You've been shouting to the moon for months and you should now know that this team is no better than last years team and when it comes down to it, they'll be out of the NCAAT early again.

Cal sucks man, is what it is. I mean, how much talent does he freaking need?

I got one for you, how about play the right lineup? Collins was a **** show out there. Joey freaking Hauser scored 25, most of them were on Collins.

Missing free throws has always been a part of the game, that is never going away. As long as basketball is played people will miss free throws. When he misses, it matters what you do after that. What we did absolutely sucked multiple times

Who the hell do you people want, really there isn't anyone out there who can get the talent that Cal does for UK. Then the story will be we can't get any talented players, so and so coach is a lazy recruiter. I've heard it all same story, we got a coach, I support our coach. If you don't that's your business. But I will support the team and the coach.

Bottom line . We will never get to another final four running the offense we’re running.
It's an offense?

I'll say this--it's not about the competition you play in Bahamas-it's about the freedom of offensive basketball and flow the team plays with. This team can't play how they looked tonight. LET THE SHOT GO--you have a great offensive rebounder and team capable of doing so-get the ball up quick and shoot the damn thing.

MSU ran on offense all night and when the shot was needed hit them. We were lost on both sides of the court. 10 for MSU was open all night. He is slow, he did nothing special except not flinch when open. Reeves was lost in the moment (meaning it was far too big for him). Heck I thought Archie Goodwin as a freshman was back. He was out of control. Collins was not ready to be back yet. Toppin is not what we all hoped he could be. Not his fault he just isnt that guy. Wallace is a stud but made freshman mistakes, Oscar was Oscar. Ware did as good as he is capable. Ugo was not ready to go against full grown college guys. Livingston was battling for rebounds but not much else and was also lost on Defense. Frederick was a step slow on Defense and offense all night. MSU is not extremely fast so not sure what was going on with CJ. Wheeler is just like he was last year Does good and bad typically on back to back plays. Will be interesting to see how we mature as a team this year. We will either figure it out or will be one of those teams that we discuss in the offseason with the words, "I cannot believe we did not make it to weekend 2 in tourney". Not sure we have enough offense to go far. A ton will have to change starting with Coaching. We need to run plays. Or have a few in our back pocket to run when we need a basket. I told my brother before 2nd OT that we would lose by 6 or more. Oscar gone and just not prepared for this type of game this early.

He still hasn't shown up.

Probably preparing the statistical analysis on Wheeler and reasons why Wheeler still gives us the best chance to cut down the nets.

I know many of you won't see the parallel but this was St. Peters to me once again. Yes, Oscar is perhaps the best college basketball player and got his rebounds and points. But, when he didn't play the offense the last two games the team didn't become so one dimensional of figure out how to get it to him and nothing else. That's exactly the same with Saint Peters. Then you leave it to the end for free throws when it shouldn't be that close. Also, Toppin was just throwing at the basket in overtime and Ware just isn't a great option. Perhaps, move Collins to the middle defensively, or even Toppin in the middle if Ugo isn't ready (although he hardly had a chance). Weirdly when Frederick finally hit the 3 they never set up another play for him.

However, the other parallel is who controlled the tempo? That was why we lost.

This is flawed. What if Cal left on his own. We can’t find anyone else. Quit being afraid of the unknown. Get someone who is driven and hungry

All the talent in the world means squat if you don’t use it properly.

I could have coached better tonight. That is not hyperbole

The missed free throws. The breakdowns on defense. The missed shots late. They all happened because we lost our composure late in the game. Lack of composure ushered in the other stuff. That is on the coaching staff. Cal didn’t have a great night.

A loss is never fun but MSU is a tough out. The sky is not falling. But Wheeler needs to improve.

Yeah Jay Wright also lost early in the tourney too, and also had bad early season losses, that happens everywhere. This isnt a bad loss, rankings mean nothing now. Get better and go to the next game.

Wallace and Wheeler should have made their fts. They also shouldn’t have turned it over as much .

But Cal also could have coached better

The breakdowns on defense aren’t isolated to this game. For years we give up more uncontested 3s than any other team I’ve ever seen.

Toppin did it tonight and Cal gets on to him and Toppin then yells back. GREATNESS
