No, HS teams really do not. Not even close.I have a hard time believing they can't get someone from the soccer club or anyone at the university who can do better. Even high school teams have better kickers/punters.
Remember who that ST coach was?Callahan on KFAB (I think that's who I heard say this) said that he recalls interviewing Lightbourn in Frost's first year. Caleb said he really missed his old special teams coach (under Riley) because he helped him out a lot. Lightbourn said now (at the time of the interview), I'm pretty much on my own.
Jesus...just pick a style and perfect it and get 1 person to solidify their craft. Stop trying to be cute....Mike Dawson, LB coach and special teams point man said:
"Nebraska will continue to use both punters, Dawson said. That Cerni is right-footed and Przystup a lefty is a factor, as is Cerni’s ability to kick rugby style. Coaches feel comfortable in both kicking directionally, though it didn’t happen consistently Saturday."
These types of decisions by the coaches baffle me...

Actually yes...pick one and focus all available resources on working out the issues. Jack of all trades, master of none is the same reason our offense has had identity issues for Frosts tenureWhat’s your answer to the problem? Just pick one inconsistent shanker?
You try to fight back, but the harder you fight, the deeper you sink. Until you can't move... you can't breathe... because you're in over your head. Like quicksand.
There is no reason Mario should be a coach, move him to analyst.I remember that quote too. After Foltz is when things really started to tank.
Lightbourne had a leg but was wildly inconsistent, and we’ve never recovered.
Other teams manage, but the cap on direct instruction coaches seems antiquated. There was talk of ncaa allowing one more, and we could use it. We need a full time ST coach, but it also means not keeping one of the positions we got.
You really think we could pull off a fake punt????throw in an occasional fake punt.
Who are our "up men" in punting formation? You really think we could pull off a fake punt????
Let Harry Potter go and put Bill Busch on for special teams and recruiting. WIN WIN!I remember that quote too. After Foltz is when things really started to tank.

well... its not like we can pull off a real punt either. You really think we could pull off a fake punt????
https://www.kohlskicking.com/player-profiles/grant-detlefsenLook at Grant Detlefsen's profile on Huskers.com. He is more than capable of punting and had great numbers at LSE. Nebraska kids seem to play harder and since he is a walk on, tell Cerni he's not needed anymore and free up a scholarship.
As I've posted numerous times, we have a QB coach who does little other than coach QBs. Frost and Lubick both COULD coach QBs. We don't have a single guy on our staff who has ever coached punters and kickers BUT that isn't all that unusual in college. Many of those kids have private coaches they work with in the off season.I remember that quote too. After Foltz is when things really started to tank.

Not since Callahan mentally checked out have we had a Husker coach use the term "Nebraska" in a sentence referring to a team he's currently coaching. Whatever happened to "we"?Mike Dawson, LB coach and special teams point man said:

This is one of the best suggestions I've seen to fix our problem but I'm not sure Bill has every coached the kickers or punters. Potters Grandpa upstairs and in a meeting room sounds like a much better idea than having on the field at practices.Let Harry Potter go and put Bill Busch on for special teams and recruiting. WIN WIN!
I know what we do - we throw both of them out there at the same time - that will throw the punt returner(s) off and counterbalance multiple return men. Threat neutralized!!Got to use someone. Do you think one has done anything to claim the job?
