I feel like a lot of his problems come from his mechanics. He tends to get his feet outside of his shoulders and has to compensate for it which causes an inconsistent shot.

I personally think he needs to quit trying to hit the rafters with his rainbow shot.

Yeah I think the cause of his crazy arch is him overcompensating from his poor stance. He’s losing lift and strength by getting his feet outside of His shoulders.

Boston has played horribly, but he is too good not to get it. I'm sticking with him and continuing to have faith. I have no clue why he is off to such a bad start. The kid is good. This isn't the dragon who couldn't really shoot from outside in HS and I was worried about it before he even got to UK. This kid has done it against some of the best.

All I know is his shot and his game look nothing like the kid I watched play almost a dozen live games in HS no more than a year ago.

The only logical explanation you could give me at this point was that his talent had been abducted by the Monstars in the off-season. That, or the huge focus on adding weight and strength has really thrown off his coordination.

I‘m not a doctor though, I just play one on TV.

I think he will get it going. Hes one of the most exciting prospects I thought cal has signed with his size, length and versatility. Some guys are just freshman for a bit.

I agree, his mechanics are not great on his shot, but Matt Jones and others said he was a scoring machine in high school, what happened?

He was and his teammate was Lebron James' kid. Boston looked like the better player. I don't know what happened, but his shot mechanics look terrible now.
He just needs to concentrate on driving the ball to either score, get fouled or dish to someone who can score.
Maybe take a couple of shots from the outside if we're up by a sizeable margin just for a heat check, but take smart shots that are in the flow of the offense.
He appears to not understand the importance of game situations, what a good shot is and time. He takes way too many off kilter/playground shots when the situation and shot clock call for something completely different. That's a lack of BB IQ and he needs to really work on that.

Many of Boston's shots are off balance. It really looks like he is trying to be Kevin Durant with the things he does. Unfortunately he is playing against men now and they are really beating him up. I think it is taking something out of him being bullied the way he is. Not just in confidence, but just draining him. In high school when you are taller then most playing against you it is like shooting over a chair. He's being punished physically now and he is not a strong nor explosive player. He'll have to learn to fight back. Or it just could be lack of strength.

He's played 9 games. Most freshmen would have played 17 games to this point. It makes a difference. Only 9 games in, it should still be November. He may still come around.

Well one fault in his game is his passing, he doesn't look for an open man unless he is forced to by the defense. But this whole teams at times lacks a bball IQ and takes some poor shots too early in the clock.

His shot, his BB IQ and his shot selection is bad enough that even if it was game 1, it would be concerning.

Yeah, it's AAU mentality and it's going to take a while for him to understand the correct way to play at this level, but we shouldn't be sacrificing games to get this one guy to shoot himself out of this. That's what happened.

3 things that stand out to me on his shot and why he's struggling:
1. He's off balance when he shoots most of the time. Never seems to jump straight up and down. He's never consistently shooting the same shot and that's why his misses are so bad.
2. He shoots the ball from his hip which makes it much harder for him to get his shot off. He could get away with it in hs but high school and college have very different levels of an open shot.
3. His shot selection is very bad. This happens with a lot of freshman but when your really struggling it compounds.

Did you notice in the Vandy game that he didn't take as many bad shots? Did you notice he drove to the goal 3 times and scored? He was passing the ball instead of forcing things. That was a step in the right direction. 3 of 9 is better than 3 of 14. It's a step. Cal mentioned after that he keeps reverting back, but at least he's playing within himself and within the offense some now. At the beginning of the season he was always on his own page, not the team's page. Anyway, I see some progression. If his shot will start falling, we will love him instantly.

It appears as though there is no backspin on his shot either. Looks like he's shot putting the ball.

I did notice that. Yes, he took 5 fewer shots, but he still lost his mind and took one of the worst shots you can take at one of the worst times you can take it.
It's why he got boo'd. He is miles away from figuring this thing out.
When he drove the ball from the wing and to the basket, he got an easy bucket. I thought he learned something.
A couple plays later, he tried to go 1-3 into the trees, got stuffed and ended up on his ***. Then he resorted to his old self.
On top of that, Vandy's guards abused him badly. Allen catches hell for his defense, but I don't see where BJB is all that much better.

I think he needs to stop trying to be the hero and top dog on the team.
Start doing the little things and concentrate on D, be a nail down defender, rebound, block shots, steel balls, better passes and so on. I feel if he can do that in a much greater percent of his floor time his offence and confidence will come to him a lot faster.
