I remember him getting in a dust up at the plate with one of our players, talked to him after the game and we had a good laugh

Yeah, everybody in attendance gave him hell for the rest of the weekend after that. He was also the one that hit the lazy fly ball that we dropped in the outfield in the top of the 9th that allowed the tying runs to score. Should have easily ended the game.

I remember going down on the field after the game and tons of us were giving the Notre Dame players a standing ovation. That was a helluva regional. Paul Mainieri took out a full page ad in the Starkville Daily News later the next week thanking the fans for the experience.

I remember that. I was there in the stands. Amazing weekend and a true baseball contest between two really good teams.

I also remember Paul Mainieri being impressed with the entire experience. It really impacted him. Soon after that he went to LSU.

Maineri would have taken our job if we’d offered. Instead, LT went the Polk II route, and we had a lost decade more or less because of it.

Maybe the worse decision Larry Templeton ever made. And he made a lot of bad ones.
