And now in the last 45 seconds, the refs got it right again. Looks like St Bonaventure is moving on to face the Gators. I really like the way they are playing hard, won't be shocked if they knock off Florida.

UCLA awful down the stretch..no poise. Tomorrow another Pac 12 school goes on the big stage to try to salvage respect for a fading conference

UCLA looking like petulant children down the stretch. I agree Bonnies won this one 5-on-8.

sometimes having a game under your belt really helps...we have seen it before......Florida can run hot and cold, never know what you are going to get. Bonnies certainly proved they can play with the big boys

Schmidt will certainly get some high major looks now. And well deserved.

I wouldn'y say UCLA collapses down the stretch...more like Aaron Holiday himself. He's gonna be beating himself up for tonight.

I wonder if Schmidt would be a candidate for UConn or Pitt
It amazes me that Schmitt has not had nibbles to move up to a stronger conference similar to Tim Cluess at Iona. All these guys do - at tough schools to recruit - is win and one with think - especially with Schmitt's Providence / NE ties that UConn may look at him. He may not be high profile enough for them but the man can coach.

I'm back...Told you guys yesterday Bonnies deserved a bid. In fairness most on message board here never saw these guys play....did not get the 3 ball going down but still gutted out the win. During Bona 13 game win streak in crunch time final 2 min. Bona would execute to win...just like tonight. Stockard did not play against Davidson in a10 semi's ....He played tonight. Will wear my Bona gear till Friday. First love Bona hoops 2nd RU football 3rd RU hoops.

congrats

I saw the Bonnies play that double or triple OT game against Davidson and came away impressed with their composure and fight to win...thats the kind of the thing that won the game tonight when things were not going so well.

Coach Schmidt has preached all season a game 7 mentality.....grind it out...leave it all on the court.

2 past Bona coaches I always felt could have got it done at Rutgers....Jim Baron and Mark Schmidt. When i went to Bona , Rutgers was still in A10

The Bonnies brilliantly used the head fake, pull-up fake, and off angle. If they used the rocker step, it could have been my junior high team. (Best team I ever played on as far a listening to the coach.) I always say, put it easy near the basket and good things happen. The law of averages says the Bonnies should won by even more. I don't think they have the height to knock off a more disciplined team.

Wow, some awful calls down the stretch going UCLA's way to allow them to get back to a tie.
it took the refs 2 horrible non-offensive foul calls to finally get a couple right. So glad the Bonnies came thru because that would have been a terrible way to lose.

Saw the end of that game, too. Loved seeing the "next man up" mentality from their team leaders - with two fouled out, the third knew he had to be "the guy" the rest of the way. Great when you can have multiple guys step up and carry the team.

boy you suffered through some real bad years. When RU was on their game 89-92 the Bonnies were like really really bad. I think the last year RU was there they started to get better, cant remember the guys name at St Bonnies but RU was down like 18 at halftime and came back to force overtime and Bruce Johnson call was quite memorable and there was a line about seeing the edge of the world from Olean

“Welcome everyone to tonight’s contest between the St. Bonaventure Bonnie’s and your Rutgers Scarlet Knights. We’re coming to you from the Reilly Center in Olean, NY which might not be the end of the world but you can sure see it from here.”

Of all of the Bruce Johnson lines.....that one could be the best.......I always wanted to be listening to the start of the broadcast when we played the Bonnies because you knew that was coming in the first 30 seconds.....lol

Many people have used that Bruce Johnson-type line at other off-the-beaten-path locales. Many, many people.

I almost went to St. Bonaventure when I was looking to transfer. Almost at the last minute I thought about my parents paying for another private school and gave Rutgers a shot. They took me, forgave me for not accepting out of high school and here I am, bitching and moaning ever since. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

In my working life met several people who were grads and all had very strong feelings for the place.

Hard to imagine a more bleak outpost than South Bend , Indiana in the late 60's but Olean NY might beat it.
