Bold prediction!

EJ will be a force down low next year. Everyone worried about no post presence. As a former college athlete, I can’t tell you the growth that kids have between freshman and sophomore year. He will absolutely be a good rim protector, and avg. double digits rebounds.

We don’t need him to score 15 a game. He will be exactly what we need. He’s exactly the kind of athlete that will gain the confidence, knowing his time has arrived. Bash away lol

Not bold. I agree with you 100%. Well except maybe about the double digit rebounds. That's only been done I think 3 times at UK in the past 40 years (K.Walker, Davis, Randle). But I think he will be our best player, at least all-SEC 1st team, going for 16 & 8 a game.

I hope so but so far under Cal only PJ has been successful coming back, pretty much everyone else was recruited over and left on the bench.

EJ averaging 16 pts per game ? LOL. Maxey will be the only player that has a chance to average that.

I don't know that it's a bold prediction. Everyone was saying he was going to be one of the best players on the team this year back at the start of the season. I'm not sure anyone's going to be shocked or surprised if he takes the big step forward.

He'll need to be at the least 5x better than what he is now.

Hope you are right. He needs to get a handle on playing defense without fouling. I think the offense will come.

I hope so but so far under Cal only PJ has been successful coming back, pretty much everyone else was recruited over and left on the bench.

That's simply WRONG!!!

In Cal's 10 years here, ok 9 if you don't think his first year would be applicable to this topic, here is who has returned and what happened with them:
Miller went from 21mpg to 31mpg to 26mpg (not recruited over)
Liggins went from 11mpg to 31 mpg (not recruited over)
Harrelson went from 2mpg to 28mpg (but you could say he was recruited over but Kanter wasn't allowed to play, except Harrelson was at the end of the bench)
Hood never played much, simply wasn't ever going to be a high D1 player if not a KY kid, although his knee injury could have been a factor too, (not recruited over)
Vargas transferred in , but gosh he sucked, I'm not going to say he was recruited over
Wiltjer went from 11mpg to 23mpg (not recruited over)
WCS went from 23mpg to 23mpg to 25mpg (not recruited over)
Willis went from 1mpg to 2mpg to 18mpg to 21mpg, he was a KY kid not expected to make an impact first year or two, followed a natural progression (not recruited over)
Hawkins went from 7mpg to 4mpg to 8mpg to 19mpg, another that wasn't going to be a high D1 player if not a KY kid (not recruited over)
Lee went from 4mpg to 10mpg to 21mpg, he wasn't as experienced in basketball, so followed a natural progression (not recruited over)
Poythress went from 25mpg to 18mpg to 20mpg (8gm INJ) to 23mpg, he simply did not improve much if any from year to year, but he played (not recruited over)
Andrew H went from 31mpg to 25mpg, (not recruited over)
Aaron H went from 32mpg to 25mpg, (not recruited over)
Johnson went from 13mpg to 16mpg (and would have played 25mpg had he stayed for JR), (not recruited over)
Ulis went from 24mpg to 36mpg, (not recruited over)
Briscoe went from 32mpg to 30mpg, but you could argue he might have been recruited over (Diallo) and suggested to leave before JR year
Humphries went from 6mpg to 8mpg, didn't progress as hoped, maybe he was recruited over (Richards) not sure
Matthews played 10mpg even though he had zero offensive skills as a FR, we added Monk & Fox at the 1-3 positions to replace Ulis & Murray, (not recruited over)
Mulder went from 2mpg to 9mpg, (not recruited over)
SKJ went from 2mpg to 13mpg, I don't think he was recruited over it appears there were other issues with him
Gabriel went from 17mpg to 23mpg, (not recruited over)
Washington went from 27mpg to 29mpg (not recruited over)

The only guys who might have been recruited over were Briscoe & Humphries.
Just about everyone except maybe Poythress, Briscoe, Gabriel, & the Harrison twins progressed/improved by returning

I don’t disagree with this. EJ has the length, the talent, the touch. A guy with his physical gifts can do wonders with a year of experience and confidence under his belt. Not to mention some muscle and extra lb’s.

He can be on the receiving ends of a ton of lobs next year if Maxey ends up being the PG he is touted to be. Going to be a lot of fun to see his growth next year.

That’s super false, but you’re a negative Cal hater so it’s not surprising.

PJ, WCS, Poy, Lamb, T. Jones, Dakari, Harrison twins, Ulis, Liggins and even Jorts think your take is asinine and kind of stupid.

I'm not seeing a huge increase in production from EJ .. too passive. Had a golden opportunity to shine late in the year with 30 games under his belt and actually shrunk in production. If you substitute " Nick" for EJ this thread was made a million and 1 times last year at this exact time . How did that work out ?

You guys are going to be nearly unbeatable if guys come back or be exactly like this year if they leave. I hope they leave! You’ll still be really good though. Just probably not win it all good.

lmfao! hilarious. "nearly unbeatable".....and "not win it all good"....all in the same paragraph! golden!

That make sense if EJ hadn’t shown a history of drastically improving. Was one of the biggest rankings leapers from his sophomore to sr year. Comes from a basketball family and not a Jamaican kid who didn’t start playing hoops ti jr high. Well and bigs making huge leaps from fresh to soph year isn’t common is it. Let’s see WCS got a lot better. Jones got a lot better. Washington got a lot better and what was the knock on Washington again last season oh yea low motor and as a stretch 4 like EJ isn’t that the better comparison. So how did that work out!

It’s ok to disagree, i very well may be wrong. EJ just has that feel about him that he’ll be a much different player next year. Dude was all over the place at times this year. And helped us win a few games with his hustle !

this is how everyone should disagree or agree honestly. but there are just far too many people that lose control and can't handle anyone disagreeing with them. it's really insane.

EJ averaging 16 pts per game ? LOL. Maxey will be the only player that has a chance to average that.

Montgomery may be our only interior offensive threat. He's not a back to the basket old-school player, but he will get his share of alley-oops, tip-ins, fast-break baskets, a few post ups, and jumpers. But he also has a decent jumper out to 18'. But maybe it's 14 instead of 16. Maxey very well may lead us in scoring. But Montgomery will be one of our 2 best players.
So in a given game I could see EJ with 1 lob-dunk, 1 tip-in, 2 post-up baskets, 1 fastbreak basket, 1 15'-18' jumper, and making 3 of 5 at the line. That's 15 points.

I see Montgomery taking a big leap next season.

He probably comes close to doubling his minutes and gets more touches next season.

I expect him to average around 10ppg and 7rpg.

Most of our scoring is going to come from our guards and wings next season, IMHO.

Tons of potential but doesn't have the base to be a low post force. Can be a guy that you post 15 feet and has the shooting/driving skills to attack from there. Can be an elite rebounder on both ends for sure.
