This isn't the home run hire some are saying, but also isn't a bad hire either. Some of the shine came off at Tennessee, but as many have pointed out, they were in disarray offensively. He will be considerably better than sirmon, but we will have to wait and see. It's an ok hire with a lot of upside.
Two top 20 scoring Defenses and two top 20 total defenses in 8 years at the Power 5 level. 49th in total D and 18th in scoring D with a defense in 2010 that had 7 NFL players on it. Yea, he very much is an extremely average DC.
Brent Pry is a good DC but it was Shoop's defense that was gameplanned and Shoop called the game. He is also an outstanding Safety coach. Look at his safety play at Vandy and Penn St. Even at Tenn he had the 6th ranked passing defense in the country this year
