I agree with Kirk. Bob is the greatest Iowa player in the past 50 years. He was a game changer.
Kirks is really tje only coach that can pick someone he coached. The creepy looking coach from Nebraska made me chuckle as he has never really coached anyone worth a crap .
If you had to point at one player that set the tone for KFz's program, it was Bob. Undersized, tough as hell, gave it everything he had and became an NFL star.
Have you ever seen Bob's arms? Given F=M x A, his lower half must have matched. Instincts.....unmatched. He was a member of the top 1% of the elite club.
He's a tank, but coming out of high school got no looks because of his size. Incredible player. Game changer for the program.
That would be great but I think the post just above yours that identifies the weak LT and CB positions on this years team is more to the point.
I think Kirk would pick Bob 100/100 times, regardless of year and personnel.

For this year, it's Scherff and it's not even close. Put him at LT with the rest of this line and we're gonna avg 250/game on the ground and score 35+/game.

Love Scherff but if making the tough choice at LT, I'm going with Gallery.

Bob was an absolute beast in his era. I'm sure he would adapt, but the sandman with the current targeting rules wouldn't be nearly as much fun to watch.
No receiver or TE wanted to catch the ball over the middle when Sanders was in. As you said, they were terrified.
Wirfs. And yes he'd have been fine on the left side. Two best "athletes" we've ever had a tackle 1) Wirfs 2) Scherff
Not sure we could go wrong with either Scherff, Gallery, or Wirfs, honestly. I just picked Scherff because that guy was the meanest, toughest SOB.
With Iowa’s weak secondary, gotta go with DeJean. He can go single coverage allowing for double coverage on other receivers. Sanders would be my #2.
The other option would be to shore up the offense. My pick would be Gallery at LT. That would give Iowa a solid offensive line, and enable them to control the ball more. #2…..was tempted to go Brad Banks, but assuming Gronowski is the real deal, I would take Marvin McNutt. Especially with Vander Zee out.

I would go DeJean but I absolutely love Bob Sanders so I won't disagree.

Can't believe no one has brought up yet Kirk's famous line about when Bob arrived it was like your big brother showing up at a neighborhood fight.
Also I think it was Bob, in large part, who prompted the Michigan player (was it?) to call Iowa "the Bullies of the Big Ten," lol. Good stuff.
