Truth on every item ^^^^^Its a combo of several things
General slow decline of message boards over a decade now declining more rapidly since other forms of social media have
NIL has turned many off
Athletes now paid and are students in name only
Utter futility in Rutgers sports across the board
Following recruiting has become worthless
Hope and Joy are waning
An aging Rutgers die hard fan population
Pay board becoming more popular for discussions
ON3 taking over and many lost through the cracks
you can't be serious? he did a very good job on gameday and did something Greg never did. Only a fool would preach what you're trying to preach
there are many things wrong with the Flood era starting at the top but to discredit the job he did on the field is absolutely shortsighted
I still can't believe Keli went along with that. Not having a spring game to watch and critique going into Memorial Day Weekend really kills the chatter about RU football for a couple months.
If RU wins 8+ games, genius but if RU pulls a turd 5- win season lets stop with the cloak and dagger operation.
GO RU
let's not forget that the school didn't support him in any regard. The school, most importantly Timmy boy, was caught with no plan. It was a giant clusterfk by the school.Yeah, to be clear, I was not propping up Flood over Greg. Flood was lax on rules and discipline, which led to his downfall. If Fridge had stayed on as I, and he had an AD who was not a loser and did not have her finger on the Flood Killswitch, maybe things would have been different. Greg has always been given everything he has asked for and more, and 2.0 has been underwhelming. So tired of the excuses for lack of ranked wins or even getting to a 8 wins in a single season.

it's another reason why I think the school is not going to move the needle under her watch. It tells me that Greg runs the show and she won't rock that boat. For a school that suffers fan support, removing one of the things that has been successful in the past for fan engagement is monumentally stupid.Yup.

I'm not sure I agree. Have no inside info, but if he does not reach 8 wins in 2026 or 2027, he is gone. Keli is in charge, and Pres. Tate will not stand for more mediocrity.it's another reason why I think the school is not going to move the needle under her watch. It tells me that Greg runs the show and she won't rock that boat. if she is in charge and allowed the spring game to go the way of the DODO bird then she's either an idiot, clueless, or has no real power. The program is bleeding support, lacks outreach, has no buzz, and myriad of other issues and one thing that you get young kids to, fan support, and general positive vibes she says 'ok we wont' have it'????? not a good decision and it was Gregs' decisionI'm not sure I agree. How long ago was Flood the HC here? 10 years ago? I’m sure it was Flood and his goofy gameday coaching that lost to Penn St in 2025 as well, eh?That was Flood.
Never saw anyone tamp down enthusiasm (especially when entering B10) than he did. Silly shenanigans on top only diminished further.
Yes GS should do more but it appears with new dc and coaches they are all dialed in trying for that one signature win to get rid of that storyline. Doing that will bring enthusiasm more than behind the scnes look at formations.

could be wrong but have yet to hear a good reason why we didn't have it

You need it all in this Information age. Just winning is not enough. See the investment many schools invest in marketing. A big part of that is making a program accessible. That was Flood.

well I was going to chime in but you absolutely nailed it. I'll just add that after a 50 year investment in RU athletics I have to value the short time I have left on this earth much differently. And Rutgers continues to lose share in my own personal "value proposition" (<RutgersAl). Anyone in business knows continued loss of market share is a serious problem that often results in dumping the thing. This site has similar issues (and that is not a shot at Richie whom I respect a good deal). Its a combo of several things

At least he won a conference championship.
5,000 fans at a free Spring Game is not successful, more drunks in the parking lots that never entered the game, just an excuse to drink & see friends, not attend the game!it's another reason why I think the school is not going to move the needle under her watch. I disagree as there are other activities notwithstanding the kids that come and become future fans.5,000 fans at a free Spring Game is not successful, more drunks in the parking lots that never entered the game, just an excuse to drink & see friends, not attend the game!
Nobody said Flood was a game day genius. But he did something in 1 year that Greg has never done. And Greg is far from a good game day coach. He has lost several games by snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.Flood a game day genius??? Where is the proof of that---keeping Nova throwing picks? Losing to a hobbled Teddy B? Again there needs to be more non fball/program related for why anyone would defend the GRADUAL DESCENT era. because the empricial data to support his coaching and program managemnt just aint there.
As an aside, why in the years ince has no one been knocking down his door for a P4 head job? Perhaps because he was in over his head and gradually let a built up infrastructure disintegrate and there was no game day magic and it is an obvious point to AD dept decision makers.
Totally wrong on several counts. First the Spring game is a free event that brings in new fans /younger generation to experience Rutgers Football. Something the program desperately needs. Second your attendance count is bogus. Thousands more. Looks like Greg is managing Keli and not the opposite.5,000 fans at a free Spring Game is not successful, more drunks in the parking lots that never entered the game, just an excuse to drink & see friends, not attend the game!
Yes he shared a conference crown, but dont we have to admit it was in a watered down Big East? Do we really think anyone else at the helm wouldnt have had similar results?Nobody said Flood was a game day genius. But he did something in 1 year that Greg has never done. It's the offseason, no spring game and not a whole lot coming out of spring practice. Add in the fact that it was basketball portal season and you have the board currently. I will say that The Round Table is full of all types of things.Pretty lame the last few months. I’m guessing it’s largely due to RU athletics being just all around bad in most sports, local pro teams sucking for the most part and NIL killing interest in following athletes since most are 1 and done. Board merger also didn’t help
How about the defense the last 2 years? That lost many games.Yes he shared a conference crown, but dont we have to admit it was in a watered down Big East? Do we really think anyone else at the helm wouldnt have had similar results?
On GS, lets put aside the filed goal at Ill for a second. When did he snatch defeat from victory? Are we tallking Buffanova? What post the first two years? (must admit I was an initial positer of "stubborness" of GS (beckford and Gilkinson at lb running TO BLOCKERS, but objectively have seen less of that) And the USF win---any credit for the aggressive play calling there? Beating all the teams favored against the past few years--not a sign of coaching?
Not so much taking a position as I would really like to flesh out this statement we see here that GS has lost games and those particular games referenced thanks
That’s not the whole point. A BIG point but not the whole point.everyone deflects to save saint Greg
I've said this a lot the past few years and I'll say it again; Greg hurts us more than he helps us at present.
Greg needs to go

fully agree on that point, it's beyond absurd. anyone supporting Greg at this point is either deluded, family, lacks objectivity, or scared. None of those are good and even worse is one has multiples of that. That’s not the whole point. A BIG point but not the whole point.
The Big (Not B1G) argument is that only Greggie out of the 330 million people in the US knows how to coach how Rutgers Football works. Some actually said Nick Saban wouldn’t do well during his heyday. Nor the current coaches who either knows how to or has adapted to coach in the current NIL system. That Rutgers would be a D3 program without Him.
Oh well.
you're trying to make comparisons to a guy that thought Gavin was a starting BIG QB. just stopYes he shared a conference crown, but dont we have to admit it was in a watered down Big East? Do we really think anyone else at the helm wouldnt have had similar results?

so we're clear, you think Greg is a good Gameday coach? Greg is many things good but Gameday coach is definitely not one of themThanks KS for reply. Agree D was awful and that falls on the hc. GS is to blame for Smith and last two years D. Agreed.
But the point was Flood was somehow a good and better game day coach. I was looking for examples of each, most notably the oft repeated that GS game day coaching lost games and which games those were. Smith and the D were sytemic and not game day issues. Was just looking to discuss specific facts to flesh out to see if there was any basis to the trope.
The rest of the commnets appear to be dyed in the wool anti GS no matter what posts and thats different from a factual discussion, as that is a fact free zone and a feelings zone.
Totally up to you on the paying or not paying thing, but I will say another reason that the board is not as active is because A TON of people have signed up, especially since the merger. We have record numbers on that side. For me (and I assume others) I definitely feel the merger lost people for putting the onus on the users to figure it out even though it was fairly simple. I’m imagining the merger was more complicated for the older fellas, with frustrations about change lol.
The main thing in my eyes though is that a ton of even the basic info on Rutgers Athletics is now behind a paywall that makes no sense to pay for. For example, paying to just have something become public in a couple days or sometimes even just a couple hours for a verbal commit that might not even really end up here is a weird concept to me.
I’ll keep tuning in and supporting the TKR pod / Rutgers Rant / The Scarlet Faithful / Knight Watch because those are R boys and give great perspectives.
Miss the old more active boards here. Go RU!
