Does Elkin have more modern titles than Mount Airy?
Playing in the little pond. Several of their title runs came with a loss to MA during the season. Titles don't make you a blueblood. It is wins over the years and consistency.

I think Mount airy is a blue blood for sure and I'm in East fan. I don't know that there are really many true dynasties other than the rosman's back in the day and the tarboro is in the current. And the Shelby's when they were winning six and seven straight those are huge accomplishments. And don't get me wrong I also believe that if Mount airy had been playing down to their true size when they were 3A and 2A back in the day that they would have won a lot more championships. Elkin on the other hand is a no-brainer as far as the 2000 to 2009. In a 5-year stretch they won four titles and got to the Western regional final after that. Granite it was small one a but they were dealing with less than 400 kids significantly less sometimes. I think the first title they run they had 18 kids. And two maybe three of those titles they would have won big one A or little 1A. It's amazing the amount of people on here that talk a lot of junk. Maybe they played one or two years of high school football. But they don't really know ****. I know plenty of big one a 2a and 3a teams that could not stop those elkin defenses. Or maybe once in a while they could. I think right now with all the parity you have two programs. Shelby and tarboro. That's it.

Elkin in those glory years were very hard to beat considering the numbers that they had.

Almost all the area schools played in 3A back in the 60’s. MA won a western title back then, so did Elkin and I believe North Surry also. All in 3A.

My point to that was though. Rosman had a ton of state titles. And although I think they did win some of them at 2A most of them were in 1A if I recall. I could be wrong about that. I think most schools have an extended run or sometimes excuse me have a run of kids. Looks like Mount airy has that right now. Tarboro seems to have had that for 25 years. Hell didn't Kelvin Bryant play there could be 40 years. Shelby is the same way. Pretty much those two schools I can think of have dominated their classification since at least what the mid-70s? Those are really the only two that I can think of. Now I might be wrong. Actually I am wrong in the '70s and '80s rozman was it in 1a. The other point I was making was Elkin in Mount airy have really had or never had as many numbers as they have now. They should have been one a all alone. And they would have won more. And it was really their choice to stay up if I understand it correctly.

Elkin has never played up, it is one of the smallest schools in the state. Back when the area schools were playing in 3a it was a lot different then it is now.

I've changed in regards to Mount Airy. I equate them to an Ivy League school. Dominate in the beginning and they're traditionally one of the better school systems academically in the state.

My airy was 3a then is why they was in 3a
Like I said most area schools were 3a. They were no bigger than they are now. It was during this time period when schools began consolidating. Boonville, Jonesville, West Yadkin, became Starmount. Forbush, East Wilkes, Surry Central, North Surry, East Surry we’re all created by consolidating.

Didn't Wilkes County at one point before consolidation have like 100 schools?

In the day Elkin, Wilkesboro, Mount Airy, North Wilkesboro, Jonesville, Lenoir, etc where bustling little towns and major towns in the state due to the manufactoring plants which is one reason they had larger schools for the time but as Prlyles said, those schools were no bigger than they are now. There was once something for people to go to in these areas.

In those days number of students were calculated differently. You had high school 10-12 and Jr high 7-9 . I think all were counted towards enrollment at same time. Yes manufacturing made a big difference in numbers of people in city.
