How does anyone really know what's being talked about at the kitchen table of the Blackshear's house?

I get the feeling all these recruiting guys are just guessing and throwing **** at a wall in the hopes it sticks.

Unless Momma Blackshear is reporting their thoughts or their house is bugged, how the hell does anyone know anything?

Either way I want the best group of guards in March. Guards control tourney. Blackshear would be great addition and could certainly win games for us in tourney but to win chip you need either the best guard or best group of guards which I believe we can have.

Ulis and Murray were great guards but it didn't get us anywhere because we had nothing inside to go with them.

Yeah, I know Cal refuses to promise anything, but I get the feeling he has gone overboard with that. We're not landing top 5 recruits anymore, we're losing recruits to second rate programs and now a bigtime grad transfer is there for the taking and we could lose him to a program that will have very little talent around him and does not give him the things he needs to get him to the pros.

I get it, Cal is really confident and has a lot of accomplishments, but something changed after the 2015 season.

So apparently Blackshear cut his visit short when Cal left for the draft. That's a really bad sign and likely enough reason to think he isnt even considering UK anymore. Crazy how this is playing out.

Well, I know if me and my family traveled up to visit and get the sell job and the coach up and left like Cal did, I'd probably feel like I wasn't really wanted there.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the Blackshear family knew that's how it was going to go down and they were fine with it, but it sure seems like they were treated like they were not very important.

I'm not being facetious. I'm genuinely curious, because this is an odd account unless there are close connections to the program.

"Up and left" sounds like someone was standing there and watching everything, because nobody would ever just assume that someone as recruiting savvy as Cal would really abandon a recruit.

Sometimes a kid is just going to like a situation better somewhere other than UK. It's rarely the right decision, but don't you think if he picked Tenn that it's more likely he might just want a team that revolved around him as a fifth year senior?

I think many here are way under valuing the jump EJ is going to make as a Soph, by mid season you will not be fretting over losing Blackshear.

Once our lineup got dialed in and injuries weren't present PJ and RT played 32-35 minutes a game. What's he going to choose TN for 2-3 more minutes or did they tell him he could shoot 20 times because I know Cal and going to do that.

College money shoe scandal being the biggest.

If are missing on Top 5 talent because they suck as human beings (ie bad attitude) or looking for pay outs (reportedly Zion and others) then, I’m ok with missing out on that. Does it suck? Yes. But as Cal has shown he’s not going to outright lie and cheat. And that’s worth more than national championships. We have an honest coach who teaches young men how to be men, and is a wonderful human being. Oh, and he does a pretty good job winning at basketball.

I mean let’s look at Bol Bol. Reportedly one of our top targets at the time. Kid apparently had a horrible attitude and Cal walked away. Well he joust went 44th in the draft for being so talented. Mainly because he has a crappy attitude that’s so bad that even NBA teams noticed. One thing has proven true about Cal and recruiting: when we don’t land a kid it’s usually for a damn good reason.

It's based on all we know at this point, which was a video of Cal in a hurry to catch his plane to the draft shortly after the Blackshear's arrived. Then the Blackshear's cut their visit short.

We have nothing left to go on, all we can talk about is what we know and what it looks like.

Why is this kid, allegedly, heading to Tennessee when he should have been blown away by his visit to UK and UK is the perfect fit for this kids goal of getting to the NBA?

How is he getting to the NBA through UT?

Like I said, my thoughts are speculation, because that's all we have.

I agree that Cal has done a great job of steering clear of kids that aren't a good fit, but he's also lost out on a ton of bigtime recruits that would have been.perfect here. Zion was one and now it looks like Blackshear, an absolute perfect fit, could be the latest.

There isn't a whole lot of spotlights for a team that will never hit the top 25 in 19/20.

Admittedly as a UK fan 1st (alum and long time fan) and VT fan 2nd (grew up in Blacksburg), I don't see any way that UT makes any sense at all.
I love KBJ, and personally think he almost single-handedly saved the Hokies entire season this year. With their star guard (JRob) out, defenses clamped down on Alexander Walker, and he had trouble carrying the team on his back. KBJ stepped up big!
UT's best team in decades (maybe ever) advanced no further than VT, and will drop way off after losing 3 draft picks (2nd rounders, I might add).
UT provides for KBJ absolutely nothing that returning to VT wouldn't.
I could understand going closer to home in Fla, but otherwise, staying at VT is the only other option that makes sense besides UK, where the benefits are obvious. Immediately more visability/publicity and exposure (in media and to NBA scouts), far better competition every day in practice, much better shot at deep run in tournament, further development by a staff that churns out draft picks who are more league-ready.

Okay, but my point is that you're speculating about the idea of the visit being cut short and the Blackshears suddenly taking offense to this new development that Cal was heading out for the draft.

They schedule the draft pretty well in advance, ya know.

That's just so, so, so far from the simplest explanation. It's panic talk. There is a 0.000000% chance that they didn't know what Cal was doing ahead of time.

If you're saying that they knew ahead of time, but were a little bit frustrated that Cal didn't schedule more time with them, then that makes only slightly more sense, because who would begrudge a coach to support his kids at the draft? Is there any obvious deadline that would prevent them from scheduling after Cal returned? Not that I'm aware.

There's this tremendous impulse when something goes wrong to blame someone just so that the blame has somewhere to rest. It's not a tremendously productive impulse, and it leads a lot of people down a lot of wrong logical paths.
