Well if you had been part of this board for a bit you would know. However, since you haven't been, I can only assume you are a fan from another team. If you were one of a few rival fans that post regularly and offer some good basketball discussion, I would give you a legitimate response. However, you are neither, so I must assume you are one of the many *** clowns we have seen recently. So I choose to have no further discussion with you, until proven otherwise.

If you are bored though and read through this whole thread, you might actually have your answers. Some of which are directly from me. Since you are the second person to quote me ( I'm thinking the same person, due to profile and the question, even with a different handle) I figured I would reply before you did it again. Obviously, I ignored the first because the answer was as simple as reading the entire thread.

Pastner didn't, but he did have the 2nd ranked class in 2010, 3rd in 2013, and 9th in 2015. Let's not act like Memphis was recruiting only scrubs in between Cal & Penny's tenure.
Btw, Both Pastner's & Hardaway's first year results & class rankings:
2009-10 208th recruiting class, finished 24-10 (Pastner)
2018-19 30th recruiting class, finished 21-13 (Hardaway)

Since we know how Pastner's overall time at Memphis turned out, perhaps we should hold off a bit before crowning Hardaway so quickly. Great player, and looks like he's may be a great recruiter. That doesn't mean he will be a great coach. We shall see.

Yes, I am a fan of another team. No, I do not have multiple "handles". You spent a lot of time and words not answering the question. I was just curious how Cal was good to Penny. If you do not have an actual answer, you should just say you do not know. It's okay.

From what I recall, Penny was going to join the staff here and get his career going. I think giving someone their first job in college basketball would constitute as being good to someone.

I am not sure where you heard that, but Penny was never joining the staff at UK. Penny is from Memphis and only wanted to coach at Memphis. And even if Cal was going to hire him, that could not be considered Cal being good to Penny. That is Cal hiring someone who could bring him top level recruits. Not exactly what I would call a benevolent act.

Nobody said “benevolent.” Did they?

It definitely could be considered being “good” to Penny however. You act as if Memphis has clout. They don’t.

Memphis has clout to Penny. He is from here and loves Memphis. He would never consider coaching at UK. My point was hiring Penny could hardly be considered being good to him when Cal would benefit greatly from it. But the original point remains, Penny was never going to UK.

Thank you Frank, don't have much patience for stupidity.

To be clear when you are coaching high school/aau, u will take any college position, especially UK. Memphis isn't some special program and it won't ever be. So saying he would only coach at Memphis, is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, and we are all now less intelligent reading your messages. Good day sir.

The UK job would have been a stepping stone to the Memphis job for Penny. Obviously, Penny didn't need Cal's help, though. It would have helped Cal land some Memphis kids, most notably Wiseman.

It remains to be seen how well Penny will do at Memphis, but I think he would have been better off in the long run if he would have learned from a HoF coach for 3-4 years before taking over as the HC of Memphis.

But short term, Penny didn't need Cal to land his dream job. Being successful at his dream job? That might be a different story. We shall see.

You dont know that at all. There were lots of speculating that it was going to happen. There are tons on other coaches he could hire also. So, I'm not sure how you can say that giving an AAU coach his first job in college basketball is not being good to someone. Of course Cal would benefit also, it's kinda the way things work. You dont hire some random guy off the streets, you hire someone that you think will help you. It's kinda the way the world works.

If Memphis had not fired Tubby, you honestly think Penny wouldnt jump at a chance to coach at UK? Or any other major program? That's ridiculous and dumb to say he would only wanted to coach at Memphis. That may be the job he wanted and preferred but to say he would only coach there is so dumb.

Had Penny gotten passed over again, like he did when Tubby was hired, it would've been because of his experience in coaching. So, he likely wouldve been brought on as an assistant somewhere, likely UK to give him that step in coaching. Cal would've benefitted and Penny would have also. Cal would not have considered it if it would not have benefited Penny as well. At the time this was all being considered, the Memphis job was not open and this was Penny looking to get ready for when it did eventually come open. Tubby being fired came sooner rather than later.

Because Cal needs help bringing in top recruits? Lol. It likely would've helped with Wiseman but if you know anything about Cal, which it doesn't seem like you do, he doesn't do things from a selfish perspective. If it would not benefit Penny, Cal would have never even thought about it. He is about helping people.

How about taking him on in home visits? Does that qualify? You dont sound like you quite know what your talking about to speak so definitively.
