It's not just the Gator payboards that are discussing Blackshear; their other free boards are as well.

Maybe he ends up at Florida. Time will tell, but this is a UK board and you have yet to reveal where you're getting your info. In fact, you seem to enjoy playing the vague card, which doesn't help your cause.

My cause?

Let me be something other than vague: I will not be revealing where or how I get my information.

Anyway, as I said - there are some on this board who have an adverse reaction to any news not pro-uk, and those posting such news.

Fwiw, my posting on the topic began before Kerry even entered the portal - originally stating UK “would soon to be in on a big time GT yet to announce”.

I probably should have left it there, as god forbid we learn something other than assurances that a prospect will be a Cat.

Simply put....

WHY DO YOU COME BACK TO COLLEGE TO PLAY AT VA TECH, A&M, or FLORIDA.??

None of those three are winning a title...even with him....

But even if...why come back to programs that really won't raise your profile nor have a pedigree of putting guys in the pros???

He's graduated...he's played in the tourney...

What's left to accomplish?
1. Get to the NBA
2. Win a title
3. Play on a big stage

Kentucky checks all of those boxes. He wants a bigger contract and a chance to win it all...you don't do that at a non power program...might as well get paid to play in the G League.

And if he comes...he starts over Nick...nothing to be afraid of...

Come on down Kerry. Get him in a room with Cal...I like our chances.

#1 isn't totally true in his position. Travis coming to Uk didn't help him. Blackshear averaged 20 and 10 last year. He wasn't projected anywhere in this weak draft. None of that will change. There's obviously something scouts don't like. You don't just average 20 and 10 in a P5 conference and not even get a glance...just like Travis.

Florida is a FF contender with him as well. Heck he might stay at Tech who knows. But the only one that truly knows who is in contention is Blackshear himself.

No reason to get all hyped then say we didn't need him if it doesn't work out. There's always those people that do that.

That doesn’t matter when I’m one player is far superior to the other. Blackshear will TAKE minutes from Nick, he won’t be sharing them. The best player will play and the other one will be his sub.

You think a early/late second round EJ is coming back to split time with Blackshear?

I hate to see Nick and EJ getting trashed so quickly after their decisions to return.
Both have great upside and I think both will have very good seasons. EJ had a few excellent sessions the past couple weeks.
Be happy these guys are back. Look forward to the season from both.
This board went from celebrating their returns to critiquing as soon a Kerry withdrew.
Kerry will not be coming to UK.
Stop trashing the kids who will be here in favor of one who wont. I assure you, in a few weeks - it wont be a good look.
Maybe you shouldn't come on our board and tell us what to do. Just a thought.

Blackshear comes here, he starts. I dont understand the people who are confident in Nick and EJ being starters on an actual good team. Hell, I think Sestina could be better than both of them as well.

Why wouldn't Blackshear come here and play at Kentucky just like Travis did last year?. Blackshear knows that he would be the starting Center over Richards and it is not even close. I just don't see Blackshear not coming to Kentucky because of Richards returning to UK. EJ wants to play PF and doesn't want to play center so Blackshear will start just like Travis did last year. In Blackshear's last 2 seasons with VT he averaged 25-30 minutes a game. He would easy start at center next year at Kentucky and play 25-30 mpg.

Meh. Don't let people get to you. They are probably like me thinking they would rather see Blackshear play FOR UK rather than against him.

Kid might go to Florida. Who knows? Family and weather would have me there yesterday compared to Kentucky and Virginia. [laughing]

So you’re saying, and forgive me if you’ve already stated this, that there is 0 chance that UK gets Backshear?

Split minutes? If Blackshear comes here he plays 25-30 minutes a game. Nick Richards didn't become Akeem all of a sudden. Blackshear is the better player now. Will be the better player next year. In all likelihood he will be the better player no matter which league Richards and he are in for the rest of their careers. I hope Nick Richards makes half a billion dollars playing basketball. Until he shows he can produce consistently UK needs a Kerry Blackshear to have the best chance in the frontcourt to succeed this year.
This right here! We need Blackshear. He's proven himself at the college level, NR and EJ, not at all. Reel him in Cal!

I don't read Gator pay boards. I am way too cheap.

I have no compulsion to validate myself to you. That either will or will not happen in due time.

I've made the mistake of posting news that wasn't pro-uk a few times in the past. I guess I'm not good at learning from mistakes.

Some of you just want to hear what you want to hear.

So be it.

Karl Towns and WCS split minutes with others...

KAT was 7th on the team with 21 MPG
Willie averaged 26 MPG

Guess what? One was a #1 pick and the other was a lotto pick DPOY.

Minutes don't matter....Cal knows what pro scouts want to see. Reid Travis was never going to get drafted...but playing a year at Kentucky probably gave him insight on what he needs to do long term to have a pro career. He couldn't shoot...wasn't tall...and not athletic enough for the modern game.

Blackshear? He's 6'10...can rim protect and can shoot the 3...there's pro potential to work with...Cal can get it out of him.

I dont think KB comes to UK. I hope I'm wrong, but seems unlikely to me.

Cal is the man so you never know, I'm pretty sure Cal has said he won't bring a grad transfer to just play sub minutes. Sestina would likely lose minutes if KB came to UK.

Selfishly I want him to come of course.

Florida has a good shot too. I like our chances as well. To play Devil’s advocate, where do his minutes come from? We have Sestina, Nick, and now EJ. Adding him means trying to split minutes four ways. Which I KNOW Cal can do, but I’m trying to see it from Kerry’s POV.
Exactly. It basically comes down to whether he cares about playing 35-40 minutes a game or he cares about becoming a better NBA prospect. If it is the former he goes to UF if it is the later he comes here. Makes no sense to stay at VT or go to A&M.

This is all true minus the minutes don't matter thing as what player thinks that way? Not many . Now maybe KB is one of those who do and he comes here. This IS the question. Not if UK is better for his career as no one can argue UF is better program or has better coaches.

It then comes down to "why leave?"

If he wants the minutes and glory....stay at Va Tech?

If he wants to win a title...why Florida, A&M, or staying at Va Tech?
If he wants to be developed as a better pro....same as above...

It's Kentucky.

Travis had more blocks under Calipari in one season than he had in three seasons combined at Stanford.

That's the type of thing that makes a difference when you're trying to gain a pro contract.

Blackshear is far from a legit rim protector at this point. He averaged 0.8 blocks per 29.9 minutes.

He needs to come to UK and become a better rim protector. If Cal could turn Travis into an adequate rim protector, he can do it with Blackshear. It might be the difference between floating around southeast Asia or getting a roster spot in the NBA.

That's reasonable. And as always, I would expect Cal to shorten the rotation in March/April.

Just remember there’s one ball, 40 minutes in the game and 5 play at one time

They only played with one basketball in 2012 also. Bet you did not know that, huh ? Guess what, the number 1 pick in the draft took the 4th most shots on the team. It was a guy named Anthony Davis, ever heard of him ? Of course you are only here to troll real fans.

Another gem you posted "Blackshear was not good enough to get a sniff of the NBA.", Well UK plays in the NCAA, not the NBA. Being a very good college 5 does not translate all the time to NBA success. What he does very well, and against Elite competition, is exactly what UK's weakness has been. A dominate inside presence who can score and rebound. Getting 14 and 8 a night from him makes us the favorite to win it all. Would have last year with him. I bet you do know all that, but hey a troll can't be giving compliments and being positive.

Run along youngster, grown folks are talking. Your act got old a long time ago, how you have not been banned is beyond me. Save the blah blah blah about having a different opinion and all that ****. You are not being different, you are being a ***.

Blackshear is a great college player like Travis was. I don’t give two ***** whether that translates to them being good in the NBA.
This.

To me the NBA is nothing but the rotting zombie sucking the brains out of college basketball.

Last thing I ever want to do is measure a player by that nasty old yardstick.

I think people are overrating Blackshear a lot on here.

I think there is a good chance that EJ will be a better player in most aspect. I also think NR would be able to provide and fit better with the team.

Reid Travis 28 minutes per game
PJ Washington 29 MPG
Keldon Johnson 30 MPG
Tyler Herro 32 MPG

People thinking Blackshear has to have 35 or more MPG, it does not happen at UK. Even without depth, Cal does not play kids 35-40 MPG.

Blackshear his JR. year at V-Tech played 25 mpg. Last year he started all 35 games and averaged 30 MPG. On a championship caliber team, he would be just fine with 25 or so MPG. He would start at the 5 and get all the minutes he would want. EJ and Nick backing him up at the 5 (mostly Nick, EJ wants to play PF), and EJ can get minutes at the 4. Plenty of minutes to go around. Nick Richards understands, until he proves himself, anything more than 15 or so minutes are simply not to be had.

To further prove my point, Nick started all 37 games his freshman year and averaged 14 minutes per game. He only started 3 of the 37 last year and averaged 12. He has not, not does he expect anymore than that until he improves. If he does show drastic improvement, that would be a great problem to have. Figuring out how to split minutes with him and KB. Until that day comes, KB would get what ever minutes and then Nick would get what is left. Remember, Nick has to learn to play and not commit silly fouls. Until he learns to do that and not make mental mistakes by losing defensive assignments and turning the ball over, there will be no worries about sharing time. I think Nick makes huge strides this year, will be greatly improved, but not enough to where he commands 25-30 mpg. Hope i am wrong, would love to be.

I disagree.

He’s a proven stud. He put up big numbers in the ACC against Duke. Against UNC. Against UVA.

Vs Duke in the tourney: 18 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks. That’s with Zion in the floor.

KB will be an All-American next year.

I don't think he will, if he comes to UK. A lot of what he does will be taken away simply because we will have better surrounding cast.

I don't really care what he did against Duke, which has no interior player last season...

at the end of the day 7.5 rpg isn't some mind boggling rate that we should be shocked about. He doesn't block shot so he can't provide interior presence that we would like to have. He will score less because he won't be our primary go to go considering he shot at 50.8%.

You’re right man. 18 and 16 vs the #1 pick in the draft isn’t anything impressive.
