I think Blackledge is the best in the business right now. I thoroughly enjoy games much more when he is there. He did the Eagles game in Brazil and was excellent. I enjoy the PSU games much more when Blackledge is there. Herbstriet doesn't annoy me as much as he used to. Whoever the arsewipes that do the Big Noon KO games are the worst, I am thinking it is that Gud Johnson Joel Klatt duo, that are Buck, Aikmen, Collingsworth bad...

I was watching the Wiscy v Ore and the Georgia v Tenn back and forth. At some point I had to mute Herbstreit. He just doesn't have an economy of words nor does he know when to let the game and crowd just sink into the broadcast. Blackledge is a master at commentary and knows when to say nothing whereas I feel Herbstreit needs an occasional cup of STFU.

I find Blackledge just boring and not that informative. I'm no football analyst but rarely does he tell me or show me anything I didn't see or already know or understand.

I watched a bit of the Washington-Philadelphia game the other night and I believe Herbstreit was doing the color commentary with Al Michaels - I may be misremembering, but it was definitely a recent NFL game that was streaming. I thought he was actually doing a pretty good job and thought that maybe the pro game was a better fit for him. Most of the time these days, I watch with the sound muted.

Herbie and Al are good together, though Al is getting more cyncial and grumpier each week.

I never did either. I didn't realize that Jackson was a Georgia native or I might have thought a bit differently - and my attitude towards Southerners has mellowed considerably the longer I've lived here (I still think their Southern-fried football is way overrated). I always felt that he favored the Southern and Big 8/12 teams. And I disliked his "folksy" delivery/sayings. Just not my cup of tea. The worst was when he was paired with Frank Broyles or Bob Griese. Both always seemed anti-PSU to me.

My favorite college crew back in the day was Brent Musberger and Dick Vermeil. Vermeil was superb and kept Brent in line (which he often needed).

I mute most games anymore. I really cannot stand many. I absolutely hate Fowler and Herbstriet, Fowler is worst then Beth Mowens (who I also hate) in my opinion. Blackledge is good but his broadcast partner is horrible, so more times than not, also muted. Really the only ones I leave on that I can think of off the top of my head is Nessler and Danielson.

I guess I am just a grumpy old man, but most of these guys just never quit talking and that's annoying. Plus they start making up new ways to refer to simple things like Herbstriet this past weekend was referring to pass interference as 'PI'. Maybe they think that makes them sound more in the know.

I'm with you on that. I don't cheer or have to listen to anyone mentioned in this thread, but the Peacock crew had horrible spotters and were off on the wrong teams...never mind the actual players. That was a horror show. IMO UK futbol announcers >>>>> than any American football announcers.

I think Herbstreit would be fine if he wasn’t connected with ESPN. He plays the “aw shucks”, Richie Cunningham role for them and its inauthentic.
