My opinion may not be popular, but I am actually encouraged after today. Our offense was not good, obviously. But, this is something that I think we all know will be fixed. What I wasn't expecting was for the defense to perform the way it did. I mean, 5 forced turnovers? That is exciting. This is the kind of defense that was advertised to us. Aggressive and forces turnovers.

Gonna *****. Same people every week.
Oh please everyone was hyped for the season all the media bought in, all the ex-players watching practice gave glowing reviews. TO all the coaches said we are heading in the right direction and then the offense lays an egg, a big fat egg to a team who was among the worst in CFB in defense last year.

I have faith in Frost no one is calling for firing but it this game was very strange and ran contrary to what a lot of smart football people have said. maybe its just one game and everything takes off next week. The fans are a little pissed because of the build up and the fact that every excuse has been taken away yet we still struggle
  • Culture change
  • Strength and conditioning
  • recruiting better
  • scheme better
  • players optimistic
  • A very well thought of head coach
then 100 yards in a half against a horrible defense and our Oline got pushed around to boot

I get it, but we also got 5 turnovers, 2 defensive TDs, a punt return TD, from a defense that was atrocious much of last year.

Offense was painful to watch today, no doubt. But most believe that is something we can improve with these coaches. Our offense will not look this bad all season.

Open question to any who will answer: which would you rather have seen today... our offense on fire but our defense sucking, or our defense showing up big while the offense sucked? Those are the only choices; not looking for both being good, as we all wanted that.

I would rather see what we saw today, because I believe the offense can be fixed. The defense looked good most of the day.

Nice to see rational, well reasoned thoughts. Few and far between today.

Losing record 3 of the last 4 seasons, this team looked like a rebuilding one. Just because Frost and company turned around UCF in 2 seasons doesn't mean it will automatically happen right away.

My hope is to make a bowl game and be competitive in every game. Many others have loftier expectations. Get better every game and let's go.

I am not jumping off a bridge and have a lot of faith in Frost not so much Chin. The defense did get some take aways the blitz's looked much better. I would say it is improved but still has issues in coverage and in the Dline especially. I saw the db's flying around but not the front 7. I am happy we won and expect it will get better but the starting point for this team is much much lower than I anticipated

We lost to Troy and N. Illinois. How did those seasons turn out?
Not good for sure, that's kind of the point. If we struggle with the smaller schools in the non-conference that has meant in the past we are in for a bumpy year. Doesn't mean this team can not do well it's just a sign of where we are as a program

I disagree. We all got warm fuzzies this off season knowing and believing that the O was gonna kick ***, and hoping that the D would be at least moderately improved. Well, the O was a disaster. Nobody was thinking that the D is going to be the strength, they just wanted them to be better. To win the division, the O must be very good, and it was anything but good. Most would have felt much better with scoring a lot and giving up more points. The bread and butter is the O, and there wasn’t bread or butter today.

I see your point, very valid... I believe our bread and butter will be back a lot quicker than our defense if our defense sucked today. I don’t think our D is better than our O, as a general rule of thumb. Today, no question, D was way better. But I don’t think it will stay that way as the season plays out. I think our guys on offense will have something to prove next week.

If I’m wrong and our offense doesn’t improve, then it’s gonna be a long year, no doubt. I just can’t see our offense not improving dramatically over what we showed today.

That s my hope also but I must say when the perceived strength of your team gets one first down in a half against a bad defense the alarm bells go off

No doubt... today was an ugly offensive performance, no two ways about it. Never got in a rhythm. As much as I’d like to write it off, I really can’t. Next week needs to take away the sting of this week, and I hope it does.

I know the expectations were well above what we saw, and I hope it doesnt take 6 losses to get it going, but after what we saw last year who thinks we wont improve? Sure you could say how cant we after that performance, but hey, at least we won the first one. I really, really want us to win the 2nd one against a team that I despise, I hope Scott gets this team whipped up and ready to go next week. Everything just felt wrong today from the get go. I'll take the win. GBR.

Speak for yourself. I see a lot of fans who see this for what it is.

Maybe when you wake up this morning the alcohol will have worn off enough that you will recognize we actually won the game. I don’t get why you are so surprised... didn’t you predict 38-21 for a final score? If we had a kicker yesterday that’s exactly what the score would have been.

I agree this is why fans feel like it is a loss, but don't you feel like it is the fans fault for once again getting drunk on pre-season kool aid? I have been saying all summer long... "I like what I hear, but until they prove it on the field it is all talk!".

There are some positives to take away from the game... Our defense created 5 turnovers, had 9 tackles for loss and 4 sacks. That is definitely a good stat line.

Our offense (mainly the line) looked like it had lead shoes on yesterday. I blame a lot of our woes on the fact our timing was off do to bad snaps for a good portion of the game. That in turn creates bad timing for all involved. The good news on that is that is fixable The bad new is our starter is a High School OLB/DE/TE that has never taken a live snap at Center in a meaningful game. I held the breaks on his hype train for that exact reason.

We won, and there is a long season ahead. It is a new season and anything can happen.

75% of college football fans probably are disappointed this morning. 50% of the teams lost. And I estimate half of the teams that won didn’t meet fans offseason expectation.

I don't think there's a Husker fan out there that wouldn't take the W over the L. Some (myself included) were just shocked by the poor performance and are probably justified in feeling like this team should be happy to just go bowling this year.

Don't think 8+ wins for this squad is realistic this year, even with inevitable improvement. That being said, if things look much better after the CU game then we'll be able to chalk a lot of this up to rust/jitters/etc and rethink the pessimistic predictions.
