And Belicheck would have won by 4 TDS. On top of that, Napier doesn’t want to be MSU.

Speaking of - how dumb does he look now? Sounds like he’s stuck at ULL at least another season. That decision(s) will cost him at least $7MM. Possibly more.

Not smart.

Could be banking on cashing in on the long term vs a quick pay day opportunities at a couple of places where it is hard to win.

I’m sure that’s what he’s thinking, but if someone hands you a winning lottery ticket - take it! I’m not sure the best answer is “no thanks, I’ll keep playing until a bigger winner comes along”.

Forget about all the ways things could go back on-the-field. He could have a wreck tomorrow and never coach again. That’s a ton of financial risk to assume for you and your family.

Why are people still talking about Billy Napier? He did not want the job. He did not want to be here. How can you hire someone who says no to taking your job?

except his career path is nothing like playing the lottery.

Here's what most everyone fails to understand - he actually has a great staff and UL has decent facilities, a recruiting region of east TX, MS, and LA that produces a ton of over-looked talent that can be coached up to play at and above their level. Lafayette is a great city - it's hotter than anywhere in the summer, though. There's a TON of money in their alum base that have always just given to LSU because "why not". The program has maintained a decent level of success through a couple of coaches now. There is buy-in from alum, city, and school to support it going to the next level.
Napier recognizes these things. And he understands grass isn't always greener on the other side. What he gets short term going to a school that might fire him in a few years, he could spend a few more in Lafayette without the stress and headache. And still be largely successful. He's willing to wait for a place that would meet his requirements and to bring his whole staff and make it his program. I can't fault him....but dang, I do wonder what might've been.

I dunno man. Napier and Hudspeth’s record after 3 years at UL are basically identical. There’s no such thing as a sure thing when it comes to upward mobility as a CFB coach.

He may be monitoring the potential implosion 55 miles away.

Hud's last year at ULL was 2017? Napier does seem like a really good coach. Not sure how well he recruits, but if nothing else he's shown that you don't have to bottom out just because it's a coach's first year at a school.

I've decided Billy Napier is the Cousin Eddie of college coaches. He is living in an RV in the driveway but holding out for a management position. Good luck to him. I assume he thinks he will get the Bama job when Saban decides to step down.
