Made this post last Saturday finally getting dragged on this 5 days later. Both coaches are bad.

I don't think quality of competition matters at all you play the schedule your given. Yes you posters are right the SEC is stronger so again yes Pope needs to have a better roster. That said the standard is the same is it not? UK should be a top 3 team in their conference every single year as a Blue Blood.

All I'm hearing is a bunch of excuses for Pope. The missing 3 starters is laughable. It's 2 at best.

You say that but I'm not terribly convinced that Smooth and Crawford wouldn't take this UK team to the woodshed.

But yes to your point you can't compare era's and record.
Oweh is every bit as good as Crawford was.
Bradley is an interesting choice, because other than being a better & more frequent 3pt shooter, Lowe probably compares closer to him than any other UK PG I can think of. But we never really got to see a healthy Lowe this year.
Patterson is better than any front court player we have.
But after the top 3 much of that 07-08 roster was worse than Noah & Garrison. Meeks was going to be very good, then hurt his hammy in pre-season and tried to play through it for 11 games, but was bad like that (kind of like Lowe)

2 year span

Billy G - 40-27
Pope - 43-24

Different eras so maybe hard to compare but when it comes to wins and losses the two years aren't that much different.
I'm pretty certain Billy G's record was not the main reason for his firing after just two seasons.
